Golden Globes 2015 Red Carpet Arrivals

Dakota Johnson in Chanel Haute Couture

On Golden Globe night, I had a very difficult decision to make. I could either watch the award show or grab dinner with some friends and watch Selma. In the end, I chose to let the show go, but only because I was able to watch the red carpet and felt like I got what I needed. Within the first 30 minutes of the E! Live Red Carpet show, I wasn’t impressed with any of the looks, but as the program went on, I felt like I had something positive to say about nearly every look. This morning, we’re kicking things off with Dakota Johnson. I never read 50 Shades of Grey, but now that I’ve been seeing more ads, I’m becoming much more curious about the film. I love that she chose this gown because she looks fantastic in it, but if I could change anything about this look, I would’ve wanted her to go completely sleek with her hair just to make it look like she didn’t walk straight out of the movie trailer we’ve been seeing for the past month.

Emma Stone in Lanvin. Ugh this bob is fantastic. I’m not completely surprised that she wore the pantsuit and it’s not a bad look for her, but I just love seeing her in gowns.

Amy Adams in Atelier Versace. 🙁 Sad face. I never am in love with her gowns! They never wow me and neither do her performances. I know that’s harsh, but c’mon. Leap Year? Also, why is her gown wet?

Lupita Nyong’o, in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture

I’m really liking the splash of purple on the red carpet this year and I think this may just be it.

Jessica Chastain in Atelier Versace

The only reason I like this gown is because it’s a little bit of a risk for Jessica. I feel like too often in the past we’ve seen her make some safe choices. It’s still safe, but it’s a step up.

George Clooney w/ wife Amal Alamuddin in Dior Haute Couture. I wanted so badly to like this look, but I just couldn’t get over the white gloves. I think she could’ve done without. Other than that, I loved her makeup and the dress itself. My co-worker remarked to me that she thought Amal’s hair seemed a bit stringy at some points and I think it just depends on the photo. This one isn’t so bad.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad – does she even age?

Jennifer Aniston in Saint Laurent

Eddie Redmayne in Gucci with Hannah Bagshawe

I find Eddie Redmayne to be so cute! I still have yet to see his latest film though.

Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein Collection

Pretty!

Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace

This was probably the most daring gown on the red carpet, but it shouldn’t have been. We’re not suprised that Kate Hudson chose this though – she always pushes the limits. All in all, the red carpet was quite safe yesterday evening.

Keira Knightley w/ husband James Righton in custom Chanel

For custom, I would’ve expected better. Much better. I’m told I need to be forgiving because she’s pregnant, but there had to have been other options better than this one. I don’t love the butterfly print.

Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen

I must’ve missed this on the carpet coverage last night, but I looooove this texture.

Julianne Moore in Givenchy Haute Couture

There’s a whole lot going on with this dress, but you know what? I don’t hate it. She looks phenomenal at her age!

Naomi Watts in Gucci w/ Liev Schreiber in Prada

I love that Naomi is channeling a little bit of Michelle Williams in this dress, but I could pass on the necklace. It makes me think that she’s kind of a villain or something. A simple diamond necklace would have sufficed.

Your hosts Tina Fey in Antonio Berardi and Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney

Lorde in Narcisco Rodriguez

Lorde was the ultra chic last night. I love this and am glad that she didn’t went glam with her hair up and this get-up. It is perfection.

Rosamund Pike in Vera Wang

I wanted so badly to like this look! When I first saw it on the carpet, my first thoughts were that I loved the white and I loved the cut, but as time went on I started to see just how unflattering this gown was. The dress is wearing her and unfortunately, it’s just hanging off of Rosamund, which unfortunately does not make this the best look of the night.

Kerry Washington in custom Mary Katrantzou

I don’t have a comment for this. That kind of says something doesn’t it?

Matthew McConaughey, in Dolce & Gabbana, with wife Camila Alves, in Monique Lhuillier

This is one good looking couple.

Joanne Froggatt, in Marchesa, with James Cannon

I didn’t even see this gown until now, but I love a good Marchesa so we couldn’t not highlight this. She looks stunning.

Anna Kendrick in Monique Lhuillier

Meh. She’s done better.

Wes Anderson

Catherine Zeta-Jones in Angel Sanchez

She is totally the emoji.

Felicity Jones in Dior Haute Couture

Pretty color, but not my favorite style of a dress.

Sienna Miller in Miu Miu

This easily had to be one of my favorite dresses of the night. Sienna is a style icon and she’s always known what has looked great on her and just continues to do so. The hair – the dress, she’s a goddess, really.

Helen Mirren in Dolce & Gabbana

Kevin Spacey w/ Kate Mara wearing in Miu Miu

Kevin and Kate looked pretty chummy last night together and while I don’t think they are actually dating, I still felt uncomfortable seeing them and HER DRESS. What is with that belt?

Lena Dunham in Zac Posen

Claire Danes in Versace

A mesh overlay gone wrong.

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors

There’s something about Emily that is always so regal to me. Maybe it’s her red carpet style, but maybe it’s her British accent.

Judd Apatow with Leslie Mann in Kaufmanfranco

Jake Gyllenhaal and Maggie Gyllenhaal, in Miu Miu

#Siblinglove

Joshua Jackson, in Berluti, and Diane Kruger, in Emilia Wickstead

Has anyone seen The Affair yet? I lost my Showtime a few months ago, but am thinking about subscribing again just to catch this. That and Homeland, of course.

Michelle Monaghan, in Jason Wu

Love that Michelle didn’t do anything too crazy with her hair. Simplicity was key with this look and she’s nailin’ it.

Zosia Mamet, in Andrew Gn

Uhhhhh. Sugar plum?

Allison Williams in Armani Privé

It wasn’t a bad dress. But the hair and makeup weren’t great also so… in the end it’s hard to like this look.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, in custom Narciso Rodriguez

Anna Faris in Reem Acra w/ Chris Pratt

This was a good luck for Anna. They’re just my favorite Seattle couple.

Amelia Warner, in Huishan Zhang, and Jamie Dornan, in Louis Vuitton

Gina Rodriguez in Badgley Mischka

This is the first time I’m ever seeing the details of the bottom up close and I’m really digging it. It just seems like a fun dress to wear and it’s perfect for Gina who took home an award last night for Jane the Virgin!

Viola Davis, in Donna Karan Atelier

Julianna Margulies, wearing Ulyana Sergeenko

Laura Prepon, in Christian Siriano

Katherine Heigl in Zac Posen

I think there are certain types of girls that Zac Posen gowns were made for and that is not me. I love how this looks on her though. It’s not a stand-out gown by any means, but at least she looks good.

Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab

It’s okay.

We don’t know who made Lana Del Rey’s dress and that’s okay – we don’t need to because it’s pretty tragic looking. It’s kind of like a prom dress gone wrong meets Ariel the mermaid and we’re not into it.

Adam Levine with wife Behati Prinsloo in Kaufmanfranco

Nahhhh

Seth Meyers in Burberry and Alexi Ashe in J. Mendel.

This looks like neapolitan ice cream.

Common in Prada

Melissa McCarthy

Oh my god, what.

Channing Tatum in Dolce & Gabbana and Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Carolina Herrera

I’m finding that I’m very partial to the color yellow during this award show season because anyone wearing yellow is getting my vote for a favorite. It’s actually very complimentary to the red.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Michael Kors

Love the pink, hate the dress.
