Homeless People Reading Mean Tweets About the Homeless

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/133853259]

Just some perspective. Angie Bird has filmed a powerful video that is a spin on Jimmy Kimmel’s celebrities reading mean tweets about themselves. However, instead of using celebrities, she had homeless people reading mean tweets about homeless people as a way to raise more awareness. Instead of taking a few seconds to put others down, we should be spending those minutes helping those in need.

A Frankly Friday Fixtape

It’s not Friday anymore, but this weekend is definitely dedicated to Frank Ocean! Yo – where’s the new album, we’re waiting for it! I’ve been listening to this “Fixtape” everyday this week just to get me excited. I’m almost sure that it’s going to be a bigger hit than the Miguel album. Though I enjoyed listening to it, I think Frank has always been more my style.

Moorea Seal

IMG_3297

After I moved away from Seattle in 2013, a new storefront moved in downtown and I hadn’t gotten a chance to visit it until this past June when I returned home. I think before they officially had a store, Moorea Seal was completely online, which is how I kept up to date on them through various social media networks including Pinterest. If there was ever a store that embodied me the best, this would be it. When Anna and I finally made a trip to the actual store, I couldn’t handle myself. Two steps in, I threw my hands up in the air and nearly startled the girl up at the front. Everything. Was. Perfect. Anna is such a good friend because she was completely patient as I perused every single corner, shelf, and display of the store. The thing about these types of stores though is that you don’t want to miss anything. I had to be smart with my wallet though because boy, was this store dangerous. I would look at a pair of shoes and say to myself “Yep, these are the one.” And then three seconds later, have my eyes land on a pair of perfect brown sandals that I knew just had to come back with me to California.

While I was there, I also had the opportunity to meet Moorea Seal herself and to let her know how much I adored her shopfront. Don’t worry, we’ll be back! There are more things to buy!

Five Favorite Pins: National Ice Cream Day

Horchata Ice Cream [Love & Olive Oil]

I feel like I missed out on a great opportunity to have ice cream on National Ice Cream Day today, but I’m glad to see that everyone else in my Instagram feed was enjoying it. I actually had my ice cream moment earlier this week at Tin Pot when Tommy and I made a quick trip after work. For the first time in years, I had my coffee ice cream in a cone instead of a cup and it was more stressful than I could ever imagine. Why does ice cream melt so fast?! I felt like a little kit again with a pile of drips at my feet outside the shop, but it was so worth it. To celebrate National Ice Cream today, we didn’t get to eat it, but here are 5 yummy flavors that you can dream about tonight!

UnREAL

In the same week, I read about the show’s reviews and was recommended to watch it by my co-worker who was only watching it because his wife was. I didn’t know much about the synopsis, but I knew Shiri Appleby was starring in it and I’ve loved her ever since Roswell (and of course her character in Girls.) Basically, it’s a fictional show that centers around characters that produce and run a reality dating series. Think The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, but learning more about the people that pull the strings behind the scenes. At first, I felt a little silly watching it, but when you notice the parallels and since I’m currently watching The Bachelorette this season, it’s all pretty interesting. The show has been doing extremely well and it’s also on Lifetime which you wouldn’t think it would be. In some ways, I feel like it belongs on USA or something. The trailer above doesn’t do it justice, but take my word for it – I watched seven episodes in a row today while working.
