Oh Joy for Brit + Co

Sugar and Cloth Gold Foil Tote Kit – $19

When it comes to gifts, I usually don’t have a hard time picking something out for the people I care about the most. I think over the years, I’ve sort of compiled a list of places that provide universally GREAT gifts – things that most people will enjoy no matter what. This week, I came across Oh Joy’s curated gifts through Brit + Co and we pretty much want everything. Who cares about passing it onto others?! Can’t we just keep these things for ourselves? They’re all at different price points too so there’s really something for everyone. Here are a few of our favorite picks. We had to limit ourselves.

Don’t Call Me A Hair Virgin

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

Readers, I have something MAJOR to share with you. For the first time ever, I finally colored my hair. I remember for the longest time I swore I would never do this because I really loved my natural hair color and I liked that the California sun would lighten it up during the season. It gave me these really pretty gold and bronze colored strands that people seemed to find interesting. However, we have to get honest here – I was starting to sprout a couple gray hairs and they weren’t the trendy kind where your whole head is gray.

For me, fall has always been a time of transition. It was the time when I would buy new clothes before going back to school and new school supplies. September is when all of the coveted magazines come out with their thickest issues detailing every upcoming trend. It’s a time to start over. This past summer, I wore my hair wavy almost every day. This fall, we went for the hair painting. I’m still not quite used to it yet and I have this nagging fear that it’s going to end up clashing with some of my outfits (probably not true at all) but I’m going to give this a shot. I mean… dyeing it back right away would be crazy and… expensive.

Music Video of the Day

Update: 9:03 PM  – – Oh no! The embed doesn’t work for this video so please visit this to check it out!

You guys, Jojo is back! I’ve been listening to this single of hers for the last month and I’m not going to lie – every time we get to the pre-chrorus and I’m in my car singing, my hand usually balls into a fist and I get all into performer mode. It’s a thing, apparently. She’s come such a long way from “Leave (Get Out!)” but wow – that song was also a hit and she was only 13 at the time. We can’t wait to see what the rest of her new music looks like. If it’s anything like this, then we know we’re going to  be pretty happy.

The Happiest Shoot Ever

Tank top – BP Nordstrom / Shorts – Aritzia / Belt + Sweater – Madewell / Birkenstocks

There are some days where we feel completely off when it comes to doing these mini photo shoots. Then there are days like this where I’m at my most comfortable and my photographer and co-worker Sandy is completely nailing it. This was the first time I’d ever worn this outfit to work and now actually looking back on it, it looks very disco to me. I remember getting dressed this morning and thinking I needed to trade in my Birkenstocks for a pair of roller skates. I remember it also being a scorching hot day as well, but I usually bring a cardigan of some sort since the air conditioning in the office can be unforgiving. We can’t ever win with the right temperature in California. The next few pictures in these series don’t vary much for the top one, but we still thought it would be fun to include.

How to Make Bubble Tea

I still remember being like 13 and Kevin introducing me to bubble tea when we were much younger. I used to find the whole concept to be really strange because boba – or the tapioca pearls – have no flavor whatsoever. Can we just admit that their only purpose is to make drinking the beverage a little more fun? Since moving to California, I’ve probably had more bubble tea here than ever in Seattle especially because my office is next to two shops and my coworkers and I frequent both places often. I came across this video through Herman today on How to Make Bubble Tea and it’s through a series on YouTube called Peaceful Cuisine. It actually is pretty nice to not have commentary in your ear  about every step. Much more relaxing to watch and share too.

The Luna Lamp

For as long as I’ve known, I’ve always been a kid that was obsessed with the moon. So when I saw this AMAZING lamp the other day on Cool Material, I thought hmm now wouldn’t this be cool in my apartment. However, I think it’s like too cool for my apartment actually.

Made by Taiwanese design firm, Acorn Studio, this lamp is way cooler and more hip than any other floor lamp you’ve ever owned. Although on saying that, there are some pretty cool and elegant floor lamps that you can get for your home. Actually, I might have a look at getting some for my other rooms, just to add a bit of extra light. But this Luna Lamp is definitely on my wishlist, so before I do anything else, I will be looking to get my hands on this lamp.

Moon shaped lamps are so unique and they also make fantastic gifts. One of my friends actually bought his girlfriend a moon lamp that was custom printed with a photo of the two of them together. He told me that there are some great websites out there nowadays where you can Put (Photo, Text, Pattern) On The Moon Light to make it a little more personalized. The next time I need to buy someone a gift I think I will definitely consider buying a custom moon lamp.

Anyway, the Luna Lamp comes in seven different sizes and receives its beautiful glow through energy efficient LED bulbs which have a lifespan of 10 years. You’re going to have this lamp fo’ life! You also have the option of having it on the ground like in the photo above or hanging it up from a ceiling just like the real moon. Deliveries for the lamp will begin in March 2016. Get your orders in now.
