Wedding Mondays

It is becoming harder and harder to keep up with Yow Yow! these days! I think I just need one full day a week where I can just dedicate solely to blogging. If only… right? After a long work day, coming home and spending a few more hours on Yow Yow! is proving to be difficult. It’s almost 10:00 PM right now even and I was just on my way to bed until I had a change of heart. We haven’t done a Wedding Mondays post since almost the beginning of the month and I wanted to get in at least one today if I could. This Wedding Mondays video is v. special. Not only is it a blogger that I adore and follow, but it also takes place in Washington. (whoop whoop!)

Bethany and Cory’s wedding video is beautiful from start to finish. Goodness, the dress, that headpiece, Lake Cushman. I know you all will enjoy this video as much as I did! That first look is going to make you smile. To follow Bethany on her blog, click here!

The First Two Episodes of The OC

This photo above is not from the first season, but we love Christmakah so much that it seemed like the perfect picture to include. Mandi and I were all set to have a night out yesterday in the city, but after settling in after a weekend of Thanksgiving festivities and a home cooked meal, we #optedinside for a viewing of the movie Dope and the first two episodes of The OC! Yes, the classic television series is now streamable on the CW Seed. We didn’t know what that meant either, but it worked and if we didn’t have an early morning today, we probably would’ve gotten through half the season. It’s been years since we fell in love with this series and now watching it when we’re much older and not pre-teens we seem to have noticed a few things we didn’t recognize before.

  • Seth and Ryan are the cutest best friends
  • As much as you kind of hate how dramatic and silly Marissa Cooper can be, you kind of love her. You root for her because she’s so troubled.
  • Summer was awful in the first two episodes. Terrible lines, terrible personality and she left Coop laying at the front of her door blacked out
  • Sandy Cohen was the best chracter on the show that was a parent.
  • Why does Seth think that he can sail to Tahiti on Summer Breeze?
  • The pool house is better than Seth’s bedroom. Ryan had it made.
  • Did we ever see the Cooper’s dog again after the first episode?
  • When Seth throws Ryan under the bus and outs him for his Chino past at the party – that was a lame thing for him to do.
  • “This is how it’s done in Orange County!” Classic.

Mandi is originally from Orange County and I just got back from there for Thanksgiving so we were having a moment, clearly.

City and Colour – Lover Come Back

Sundays are for lovers and we love City and Colour. I stumbled across this song a couple of weeks ago without even knowing it was City and Colour at first, but within the first minute – it was pretty much clear. It was actually my dear friend Eric Bowley that got me into the band 10 years ago when he had introduced me to “Save Your Scissors.” Looking back on it now, I realize how much of a classic it is. City and Colour has sort of developed over the years and their music has gone in and out of waves, but it’s still something that I enjoy even years later. I’m so excited to be able to listen to their new album “If I Should Go Before You” in full later on tonight, but still think it would sound a whole lot better on that record player that I don’t make enough of a use for.

What We’re Listening To: Leon Bridges

2015 was the year of extraordinary music and full albums that I’ve just fallen in love with. Don’t worry, we’ll be sure to write a more comprehensive post about the artists and songs we got after as we get closer to the new year. I’ve been listening to songs from Leon Bridges here and there for awhile, but had become so distracted that I never actually got the whole album and added it to my Spotify. I’m a little embarassed to say this, but it was that performance of “Kevin” that he did with Macklemore last week at the American Music Awards that woke me up. After that, I spent the whole rest of the evening listening to “Coming Home.” With every song, I started wondering about how much better it would sound if I could just play it on my record player and not from my speakers. I absolutely adore Leon. It’s the kind of music that takes you back years and years beyond Mayer Hawthorne, beyond Raphael Saadique, and is so timeless. Leon is just 26 years old – a year older than me – and he sounds like he’s been doing this forever. The soul soundtrack is sometimes all I need/want to listen to right before I go to bed. And it’s the soundtrack I can imagine myself dancing along to with my s/o in the kitchen after a long night. So charming. Okay, we’re smitten – I guess you could say that we’re more than just a little excited about Leon.

Here are our favorites:

  • Coming Home
  • Better Man
  • Brown Skin Girl
  • Smooth Sailin’
  • Shine
  • Lisa Sawyer
  • Flowers
  • Pull Away
  • River
  • (basically the whole album)

Happy Belated Thanksgiving!

Happy belated Thanksgiving everyone! I was trying my hardest to stay completely off of my computer yesterday because I wanted to enjoy the time with my family and *successfully* achieved my goal. To top things off, I didn’t buy anything during Black Friday. Self control, like whoa!

Actually, I didn’t really feel like I needed to buy anything. I had recently purchased two holiday party dresses (I only needed one) so that felt like enough for me. On top of that, I’m headed to Boston next weekend and saving money just always sounds like a really good idea. I was very lucky to have celebrated three Thanksgiving this year! A record! Every year, my company hosts a Thanksgiving with an entire feast and it’s one of the most darling events we hold each year. Last weekend, I also attended Mandi’s Friendsgiving which was also very sweet and started with a win from the Seahawks. That’s always a good thing especially since we’re having an embarassing season so far. Here are a few photos from all three events for you to enjoy below. This year, I am very thankful for:

  • family in different places that I can see for the holidays
  • the best friends anyone could ever ask for
  • a job that I enjoy coming to every day
  • a home that feels like home every day
  • good food. almost all the time

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Before these became everyone’s favorite centerpieces!

That Casual Look Back

Screen Shot 2015-11-25 at 7.09.37 PM

Skort – Aritzia / Top – Brandy Melville / Hat – Nordstrom

After we purchased this hat at Nordstrom for the Taylor Swift concert, it was all I wanted to wear. I was convinced that I could pretty much pair it with any outfit until one day my co-worker casually asked me “if the sun was in my eyes.” And then, we put a hold on the hat. I have never worn all of these pieces together, but as my closet is mostly made up of black and white pieces these days, it isn’t difficult to mix and match until you get something right. I like to think that this is a classic fall look, but truth – it was still definitely summer in the Bay Area when we took this photo and it was very very warm outside.
