13 Celebs Re-Imagine Hotline Bling

I can’t say that I loved this song when it first came out, but now that we’re nearing the end of the year, I’m realizing more and more just how good it actually is. We will definitely be seeing it on our Top 50 songs of 2015 list.

Christmas Wish List 2015

Jimmy Choo – Lilyth 120 – $665

Being 25 has changed me. I know so because this year I asked Kevin for very practical gifts that I actually need including luggage with wheels for my travels and a new laptop sleeve because I’ve spilt too many liquids on my old one. I also need a pair of earbuds to replace my old ones. Next year, I’ll be asking for a new vacuum, cushions, sheets, and aromatherapy sticks. Who are we kidding? We’ll take those now! Actually this year’s Christmas wish list is probably the most diverse that I’ve created so let’s just enjoy this alright?

Song of the Day

Jack U, Skrillex, Diplo, AlunaGeorge – To U

There’s a bunch of symbols used in one of the artists and in the title of the song, but I’m too lazy to figure out how to do that on my keyboard.

What We Wore: Holiday Party

Processed with VSCOcam with kk1 preset

Now that my company’s holiday party has actually happened, we can finally write this post! It was about a month ago that I was facing my holiday party dress dilemma having no idea what I would wear this year and it was just a few weeks ago that I wrote our Holiday Party Dress Guide for 2015. When I wrote that, I had just found my dream dress (this one above!) When you know, you know. The minute I put it on, I not only knew it was the perfect dress, but I felt it. Oh gosh – imagine what I’m going to say when I write about how I find THE dress someday. When you have found the dress and you’re excited about it, you’ll try it on every few days…and that’s exactly what I did. Out of the three holiday parties that I’ve celebrated with my company, this is by far, my favorite look.

Mandi and I had separate holiday parties to attend that night, but we figured, why not get ready together? She told me that for holiday parties she usually likes to pamper herself and go all out. I hadn’t done that in the past two years, but I thought why not? My makeup and hair should match exactly how I feel about my dress. Our first stop? Dry Bar for our very first visit!

Our visit was to the Dry Bar in downtown SF. $45 gets your hair blown out and a shampoo wash as well. I had taken a look at the menu beforehand because I’m such a planner, but the style that I wanted wasn’t exactly what I had seen so naturally, I came prepared with a photo. I told my girl that I wanted very loose waves and all of my hair to one side to match the look I was trying to go for with the dress. I felt like I was done in about 15 minutes! Honestly though, she did such a great job and I feel like this rarely happens, but I got exactly what I had asked for. The shop is super cute; it actually looks like a little bar with the set-up and while I would totally go back for another special event, I don’t think I can justify going every day before work like some people actually do. Isn’t that a little bit much?! I thought so too. Mandi and I were in shock after we found out that this is a daily thing for some people especially because shampooing and blow drying your hair is something that I learned at like age 5.

From there, her and I headed over to Bare Minerals where we had our makeup done! I have to admit, this was the one part of the day that made me really nervous especially because I used to get my makeup done for formal dances in high school at various counters. Back then, I always felt like everything was a bit overdone. The MAC counter will do that to you. However, at Bare Minerals, I felt like I was leaving looking exactly like myself, but a little bit better 😉 Bare Minerals has always been a pretty natural looking brand though so I was very impressed with them and ended up purchasing two products that I’ll most likely feature on a future “Beauty for Breakfast.”

Some last thoughts:

The back of this dress is really what sold me. Make sure you click the link for the extra details. I kept telling Mandi that I couldn’t wait to wear this dress and to get ready with someone else so that they could help me button up the last three buttons that I couldn’t reach when trying it on. I also am not big on accessories so I didn’t have a lot that would match with this dress and I knew it too. After I had secured the dress at the store, I did that thing that I do when I’m shopping and get too comfortable by roaming around and asking everyone working there to help me find the perfect necklace. I love this choker. I haven’t worn chokers in a very long time, but it’s a trend that has made its way back this year and it was so so pretty, but also didn’t take away from the lace detail on the dress which made it perfect.

Wedding Mondays

The wedding we’re sharing today is very very special. Alyssa and I were classmates in high school and when I heard that she was engaged, I knew her wedding was going to be incredible, but after seeing her wedding photos featured on Ruffled, I was completely blown away by the attention to detail, the fairytale theme, and how exquisite everything looked. We aren’t sharing a wedding video today, but I did want to take some time to share some of my favorite details from her special day. One of my dearest friends was also Alyssa’s Maid of Honor and is also on her way down the aisle next year as well!

Beauty for Breakfast Pt. 25

It was just last week that I was talking about how in 2015 I was starting to develop a better skin routine for myself and one of those things that I’ve been using is Simple’s cleansing facial wipes. For years, in college and in high school, I would try a number of different cleansing facial wipes, but none of them really stuck. It takes some serious discipline to wash your face every night. I know it’s embarassing to admit, but for the longest time, I would just go to bed with all of my makeup on and convince myself that it would come off in the shower the next morning. What’s really awful about that situation is that everything that builds up during the day and your makeup get onto your pillow and it’s a disaster. I’m almost convinced that it’s one of the reasons why a) my skin breaks out and b) I have to wash my pillow cases so often.

For the last couple of years, I’ve been attending the Grace Hopper Conference and every year we get a pretty nifty swag bag that included these wipes. It was a couple months after I got back, but I found an opportunity to try them and fell in love. If i could, I would order these in bulk and just keep them stocked in my closet so that I have them forever. Whether you’re on the go and traveling or using them at home, they are so easy to work into your skin routine. I like to use them at night right before I go to bed and after a pretty thorough wipe down of the face, I splash some water over it to get rid of any extra residue or build up. The best part about these packets is that they come with a few wipes. When you open the packet (in the front where the text is) you can close it back up to make sure that the rest of the wipes stay hydrated and fresh!

Yow Yow’s Decline in 2015

The other day, a coworker of mine was doing research on how stats and analytics look for different platforms and she was looking for someone that not only had a WordPress account, but that used it pretty frequently and actually received stats. I told her I thought I knew a person that she could reach out to 😉

*****

As we sat down to our meeting, I felt the need to give her a quick rundown of how Yow Yow! was run over the last few years from the start to present time because… I was definitely feeling some insecurities about the stats that I was about to show her. They weren’t good. In 2015, they were the most disappointing numbers that we’ve ever seen in Yow Yow’s existence and of course, I knew why. I wasn’t trying like I used to. I was taking the easy route by cheating with posts that were “Sunday Words” or “Song of the Days” because they never required that much effort and it would take me less than a minute to post. I had stopped working with other brands and engaging with other individuals that I wanted to highlight on the blog because I knew how much time it would take to compose and put it all together. In 2015, I didn’t have the time I had when I was a college student – when I was a senior and when Yow Yow! was at its peak. It’s a sad truth and as I think about 2016, I’m still not even sure where we can go from here. There’s no chance that I’ll gain more time to work on Yow Yow! It still takes a backseat to my day job and that’s the way it should be. However, writing for the blog still makes me extremely happy and at the end of the day, I don’t want to let anyone down – especially those friends of mine that use the blog to keep up to date with the details of my life when we can’t chat everyday.

From the beginning, we’ve never had a strategy. Monetizing seems very very very far away. Even as I write this, I was hoping that by the end of the post I could say that I had a plan, but I don’t. At all. We’re just going to keep trucking away. Every night. After work until I have to go back to bed and do the same thing over and over again. I’ve been trying to wrap my brain around what made Yow Yow! successful in 2012 in comparison up until now and after a day of thinking about it, I think it’s just… quality. I stumbled across this post that I wrote right after I graduated and realized that I really miss writing things like this.

If anyone has any advice, we’d love to hear it!
