Oh…Didn’t See You There

Dress – Oak + Fort / Choker – Free People / Socks – SmartWool 

We love this dress. Not only is it super warm and functional for those fall/winter months, but it’s a pretty cute piece as well. What I like about this and what makes it okay for me to wear to work is that it’s conservative in the front, but once you get the side view – you see those slits! I was also going through a pretty heavy SmartWool socks period in my life and wanted to wear these with every outfit. I later came to realize that because of how thick they are, they don’t work well with these black boots of mine and end up making my feet sweaty so we’ve since retired this look. And because of this look, we decided to not wear this choker as a choker and loosely made it worn as a necklace.

China’s Most Racist Commercial

I was absolutely floored when I viewed this commercial earlier this evening. Already, it has been viewed over 4 million times and that’s probably because it is completely ridiculous. It has been awhile since I have posted anything this controversial and I went back and forth for a few minutes wondering if I even should at all, but then I remembered that college me probably would’ve posted this and ripped it apart without any hesitation and we never want Yow Yow! to become soft or just fluff. So let’s talk about this commercial for a second.

There’s so much wrong with this video, it’s almost tough to figure out where to begin. Here are my issues with it:

  • Why does the black man in this ad have to come in with stains on his face and shirt whistling at the woman? This is playing into the stereotype that black men are more sexually aggressive towards women and that’s not okay.
  • The woman then puts something into this mouth (detergent) and then proceeds to shove him into the washing machine – looks to be kind of like in a violent manner if you ask me.
  • Lastly, he comes out of the washing machine no longer black, but now a light skinned Asian man. He also happens to be so clean (stain-free) and so white.

Nothing about this commercial, made by Chinese detergent brand Qiaobi, is okay. It is difficult enough to have to still in 2016 watch acts of racism occur in our own country and while I’m not naive in believing that this doesn’t happen outside of the United States, it still is very disappointing to see this.

Bay Area Eats: Rumble Fish

I sort of think that if I were forced to have sushi for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day that I wouldn’t be that upset. While the sushi here in California doesn’t exactly compare to Seattle, I still feel pretty lucky that I have some spots nearby that I really enjoy! One of them is in downtown Mountain View on Castro Street. Since I’ve been here, I have yet to find another sushi spot that can make a seared salmon. When Rumble Fish opened sometime in late 2015, I decided to test my luck. It was a good move because now the seared salmon is all I eat from there! If that picture above makes it look like the seared salmon melts in your mouth… it’s because it does.

NAO – Girlfriend

We are so looking forward to this next album. “Girlfriend” is such a pretty single – the second we heard it, we were dreaming up choreography. I’m really excited to be getting back in the studio soon. We’ve been rusty, but there’s so much that we can do with all the songs that we’ve been loving recently. Who knows – someday maybe I won’t be so shy and we’ll put a video up on Insta!

Our Obsession w/ Glassybaby

If you’ve been following us on Instagram lately, then you may have noticed a series of photos featuring handblown glass candle votives. One friend of mine even asked me if I had become Glassybaby’s latest spokesperson because they have made so many appearances on my feed. Nope! I just think they are extremely gorgeous and pretty. Every time I see a collection of them, I feel inclined to take a photo. Earlier this year, I mentioned that I had become obsessed with having candles in my home so it’s not totally surprising that they were the gateway to Glassybaby. I’ve actually known about the brand for a few years as they are originally from my hometown of Seattle and I had had a few girlfriends (Jennie – in particular!) who has been collecting and decorating her condo with them for years.

I kept visiting their Stanford Shopping Center location this year and each time I would pick out my favorites and of course, snap a photo while I was there. It didn’t take long though until Glassybaby started noticing some of my photos on Instagram and I was contacted by Alyssa (an employee of the company) who invited me to Berkeley to meet with her and visit their studio and hot shop. #goals.

The space was absolutely beautiful! Having done some event planning prior to recruiting, event spaces are something that I have managed to develop crushes on and this was one of those spaces. There was so much natural lighting and open space not to mention you can watch the Glassybabys being made right in front of you. It was a pretty cool experience to witness and we’re so glad that Alyssa gave us the opportunity!

Every day the hot shop focuses on 6 different Glassybaby’s to make. Spoiler Alert! They let me take home Bay Lights that day and I’ve been keeping it lit ever since.

Sass Game Strong

I’d be lying to you if I said every day I woke up in the morning 100% knowing what I was going to wear and was completely satisfied with it. 85% of the time I plan my outfits the night before, but I still have those days where I might spend 90 minutes trying on 5 different outfits before I leave the house. Even then, I’m still not okay with it. This was one of those days where I felt a little bit uninspired and decided to borrow my friend and coworker’s cardigan. Sandy is also my photographer most days! I really love the contrast in these two photos though because as many of you know, I wasn’t always super comfortable being in front of the camera – throwback to that space helmet that we loved so much in college and always had over my head. That’s why this photo below is still funny to be because clearly, I still am very bashful about this thing that we’re doing!

Ariana Grande – Into You Music Video

Ariana Grande released her new music video for “Into You” and it’s a steamy one! I’ll have to admit that this wasn’t one of my favorite songs at first, but after watching this and listening to it a few more times, it has really grown on us! As you all know, her new album is ALSO out. We’ll be discussing this soon in another post as well, but for now we’re just sharing the video. The best part? There’s a twist at the end! Any guesses on what is REALLY happening in this music video?
