Fall Travel Diary

screen-shot-2017-02-28-at-11-28-30-am

Looking back on last fall, I feel pretty fortunate that I had a chance to travel to so many cities in one run with a career that I really enjoy. Growing up, I never traveled very extensively, but I always wanted a job that would not only take me to places, but allow me to see the cities that I was traveling to. When you’re thinking about a career before you even have one, you envision what your life might be like to have one of these jobs. Luckily, my busy travel season is just that – a season. Last year, I met someone who was previously a consultant and spent 4-5 days out of the week traveling for work. No, thank you. 🙂

This past fall, I spent nearly two and a half months “on the road” visiting Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Houston, and Boston (twice!) I have loved exploring America and I even found some hotels in downtown New Orleans
that I was going to visit. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to visit in the end but I would still love to go. Here are some of the photos I took from these trips; most of them just include the things that I ate, which as you can imagine…were a lot of carbs!

Philly was just the most darling. I really only got two days here, but I wish I could’ve stayed longer! What an incredibly beautiful city with so much charm to it.

T-shirt and Sweater – Madewell / Shorts – Aritzia / Heels – Vince Camuto

When you’re headed to brunch, but a t-shirt and shorts just won’t do! I love Madewell pieces…loooooove them! They’ve always been made with such high quality fabrics and they last me for years. I’ve had both of these pieces (both purchased on sale by the way) since college and still wearing them well into my 20’s. While these shorts are a little on the short end, they are super comfortable, but need to be balanced out with other pieces to make them suitable for wearing. That’s where this sweater comes in. It’s a great coverup and I’ve pretty much taken it everywhere with me, in the city, to the beach, on hikes even. I just purchased my first duster though and while I’m very excited about it, I don’t want this one to get lost in my closet because it’s such a reliable staple to have around.

The Closet: February 2017

Free People Come Around Cami – $38

Can you tell we’re having a little bit of a shoe moment right now? I usually refrain from buying new pairs until the summer when the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale rolls around, but we’ve already got these on the brain. Now, if only they’d get hit with a massive sale… 😉

And it looks like once again, we’re obsessed with the black and rose gold combination. They just look so great together!

Coffee Spread

Good morning! We’re sliding in this post just in time for you to have your breakfast and for you to ponder and consider if you would like your coffee to be spreadable and on toast. Full honesty, I looked at this and not one part of me had any doubts about it at all. First off, I believe in giving most everything a shot, but this doesn’t sound bad. We have toast at breakfast. We have coffee for breakfast. Ain’t nothing wrong with simplifying some processes. What do y’all think? Would you give it a try?

Japan’s spreadable coffee will be available starting March 1st.

Music Video of the Day

Music videos are so endearing to me these days. They were so under appreciated long ago when you just expected to see them on repeat on MTV. These days, you actually have to look for them! This was probably one of my least favorite songs off of Ariana Grande’s most recent album, but I did find this video to be pretty cheeky and slightly NSFW. Everyone is really getting after it in this! And Ariana is like their biggest cheerleader, which is kind of awesome.

Target Launches Beauty Boxes

I was just reading a question on Quora yesterday where someone asked what the best way to discover beauty products was. In 2017, I would chalk it up to three things: samples, your friends, and beauty boxes! I may be well into my 20’s, but I can admit that I’m not a pro when it comes to doing my makeup. I still get even the basics of it wrong so when there’s an event like a company’s holiday party where I need my face to look good, I leave it to those who do it best. Getting your makeup done at a counter or a store allows the people doing your makeup to tell you exactly what each product does. A lot of the time, I swear I’m just doing guess work when I’m by myself. I also rely on my friends to tell me what they love to use and why it works for them. Lastly, one of the best trends for makeup is with beauty boxes. Samples are your best friend. It’s like getting into a non-committal relationship with your beauty product and I can’t think of anything better. Well, I can think of one thing that is better. Beauty boxes by Target!

Target is officially launching their monthly subscription box that will deliver their top selling products to your doorstep for a record breaking price of $7. My eyeliner costs more than that and that’s just one piece. For their upcoming March box, you’ll be receiving these products at a $25 value: MISSHA’s Time Revolution Essence, Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Lip Shine, Skinfix’s Foaming Oil Cleanser, and more by Dove and Soapbox. There are all sample sizes, but I think from looking at the box, everyone can tell you’re getting more bang for your buck here.

2017 Oscars After Parties

Elizabeth Banks in Elie Saab (this is so unbelievably stunning)

Nobody loves a red carpet more than I do. (Well maybe Ryan and Giuliana) but I don’t mess around on award show days and Sunday afternoons with the red carpet have a special reservation in my day planner. However, while everyone is anticipating THE red carpet, I’m also getting ready for my second wave – the red carpet of the after parties. This is where some of the most daring looks of the night come out. We’ve been doing this post after the award shows red carpet for years so if you’ve been with us awhile, this is nothing new to you. However, if you are new – welcome.

Design Love Fest x Target Collection

Whenever I learn about some of my favorite bloggers designing and collaborating on collections, my heart gets all warm and tingly. As a part-time blogger with a day job, these are the things that I only dream of. I’ve been following Bri of DesignLoveFest for years though and am constantly inspired by her creativity and how open she is with all of her readers. She’s someone I’ve looked up to. So when I learned that she linked up with Target to put together this fab collection of travel accessories and luggage, I nearly lost it. I’ve done the most traveling I have ever done in my life in the last two years and while I’m not a pro of knowing all the tips and tricks (Ugh, I don’t even have TSA pre-check yet!) I recognize the importance of traveling well and being prepared with all of the necessities. Here are our favorite picks and once you get a peek at the collection, you’ll probably want the entire set. Don’t delay though, one piece is already sold out online!
