Fall Travel Diary

screen-shot-2017-02-28-at-11-28-30-am

Looking back on last fall, I feel pretty fortunate that I had a chance to travel to so many cities in one run with a career that I really enjoy. Growing up, I never traveled very extensively, but I always wanted a job that would not only take me to places, but allow me to see the cities that I was traveling to. When you’re thinking about a career before you even have one, you envision what your life might be like to have one of these jobs. Luckily, my busy travel season is just that – a season. Last year, I met someone who was previously a consultant and spent 4-5 days out of the week traveling for work. No, thank you. 🙂

This past fall, I spent nearly two and a half months “on the road” visiting Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Houston, and Boston (twice!) I have loved exploring America and I even found some hotels in downtown New Orleans
that I was going to visit. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to visit in the end but I would still love to go. Here are some of the photos I took from these trips; most of them just include the things that I ate, which as you can imagine…were a lot of carbs!

Philly was just the most darling. I really only got two days here, but I wish I could’ve stayed longer! What an incredibly beautiful city with so much charm to it.

One of many plane rides back and forth from the west coast to the east coast.

Breakfast at High Street on Market. We were road tripping from Philly to Pittsburgh on a Saturday morning, but I couldn’t let us leave without doing a quick meal. Whenever I’m having brunch, I always end up ordering the same thing so this time I asked our waiter for a recommendation and went for something that I would never have ordered on my own! This is a whitefish bialy on a squid ink bagel – a first for me! The whitefish is yummy, but boy is it strong. Brush your teeth afterwards or pop a mint!

Sometimes when I’m traveling, I get a little homesick (naturally) so when this happens, you kind of just want to order your comfort foods. Here are the spaghetti and meatballs from Russell House Tavern. I love a good meatball.

When I’m home, I don’t take advantage of working out of coffee shops and cafes as often as I should because working from the couch is super convenient. In Boston, we visited Tatte Bakery and Cafe, which was the old Panera near Harvard and it was super cute inside. The decor is clean and minimal, but because this place is a hot spot and always crowded you kind of miss seeing all of that.

And when you don’t want to have a fancy brunch, just go for what you KNOW will be good. My team always lets me be in charge of our food options when we’re traveling and this is something that I take a lot of pride in. I love finding a mixture of restaurants that are fancy and then ones that are simple that will get the job done and still be affordable and delicious. The breakfast sandwiches at Blunch in Boston are amazing. Don’t let that name scare you.

Because when you’re working hard on the road, you deserve nice things.

Does this look familiar? This is where Jean of Extra Petite got married! Seeing the Boston Public Library had me fangirling for the rest of the day. I still get little chills when watching her wedding video because it’s one of the most perfect things I’ve ever seen and being here felt magical. What an incredible venue.

These photos don’t do it justice. Seeing this sight in person is just breathtaking.

Someone told me this reminded them of the poop emoji. It is actually a very accurate description, but you know what? This was one of the most amazing cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had so call it poop all you want!

Haha okay so Alden & Harlow may not do presentation so well with these two dishes, but your mouth will thank you later.

Boston. Ann Taylor. Where I first fell in love with the bucket bag trend.

In my next home, all of my shoes will be on display like this. They will also be fake books obviously.

This photo marks my third year of attending Grace Hopper with my company. I loved attending this event with my team every year and the powerful message that it spread. Women are AMAZING and can do anything.
