Andi Mack

We’ve always been pretty big on television and I won’t lie to you that watching TV while multi-tasking has stunted my productivity over the years, but I can’t help it! Since I’ve spent a lot of years living alone, I loved having the TV on as background noise. It made home feel a lot less quiet. I also just enjoyed the range of television shows that I’ve watched over the years. As I was reading the news today, I discovered a new series that will be coming to the Disney Channel. And yes, I’m on the verge of 27, but no one was more upset than me about the loss of “Girl Meets World.” I wrestled for a minute or two on whether or not to take 30 minutes of my time to watch the full first episode and I’m glad I did. Andi Mack is a newly 13-year old girl who is basically using this birthday the way we all did when we turned 13 – to come out of our shell a little bit more, take more risks, and figure out who she is. She’s got two best friends, a crush, her parents, and her cool older sister. Mini spoiler alert though, on her birthday, she discovers that her cool older sister is actually her mom and that her “mom” is actually her Grandma.

This is BIG for Disney channel, right?! I mean have they ever had a series like this? I don’t think so. More importantly, I love the fact that they are bringing more Asian actors and actresses into their original series. I don’t exactly know how the rest of the season will pan out, but I’m really rooting for this one and I find it to be pretty tasteful so far – at least for a pilot episode.
