RIP Nylon Print

Last week, we learned that Nylon would make the complete switch to digital and would be shutting down their print magazine. I spent the weekend thinking about this and how Nylon wasn’t the first magazine to do this and it certainly won’t be the last. I can’t even recall the last year I had a magazine subscription or the last time I even bought one by choice. In a way, I’m the problem here. I’ve been reading Nylon both online and in print since I was a teenager, but these days only sticking to digital.

It was a prominent magazine for me during my scene days and when I felt like dipping into something I thought was just a little bit edgier than Teen Vogue. When I think of my identity back then, I think I was a little bit of both! Half Teen Vogue / Half Nylon. Wasn’t every girl at that age? Nylon was at the cutting edge of trends, icons, fashion, and music. There was even a time where I dreamt of being a part of this magazine in some way shape or form way wayyyy back when I wanted to be a journalist.

I’m very sad to hear that the print version of Nylon is shutting down. The magazine meant so much to me during my adolescent years, but as always, we’ll continue to read Nylon Digital every day and hope that even their print legacy can continue to live on as it shifts to fully digital.
