What We Wore: Jodie’s Wedding

Dress – ASTR / Choker – Urban Outfitters / Clutch – Clarins / Heels – Vince Camuto

It just occurred to be that we haven’t even spoken about this look yet! My darling friend Jodie got married over Memorial Day Weekend this year and I was thrilled to be flying to Raleigh for the first time. I took a friend with me as a plus one and together him and I explored all over the neighborhood and had some of the best meals we’ve ever had including my favorite – BBQ! This was my first southern wedding though and I wanted to look the part even though I didn’t exactly know what that really meant. I generally have an idea of what I want to wear prior to weddings, but for this one, I hoped the look would just come to me. For my friends’ recent weddings, I’ve been wearing a lot of the same style. I am loving these long maxi dresses. They are so chic, sleek, and elegant. You almost don’t need to accessorize too much for it because it just wears itself.

One afternoon while perusing Instagram, I came across this ASTR dress. It looked beautiful on the model and I wasn’t sure if I could pull it off, but I figured I couldn’t turn it down unless I tried. I went to my nearest Nordstrom, tried it on and sort of fell in love with it. The high neckline was something different in comparison to other dresses that I had worn in the past. I paired it with my favorite choker, which I thought was a little bit risky, but still worked. I also threw my hair up into a bun. Looking back on it, I actually regretted it only because I enjoy wearing my hair down more, but I wanted to see how it would look and now I know for next time that I should stick to what I know will work. My clutch isn’t even a clutch! It is actually a beauty bag from Clarins. I normally don’t gravitate towards red ever in my wardrobe, but for some reason with this baby blue dress, I wanted something that would make this look pop! The heels are simple and black and my favorites from Vince Camuto.

I don’t know if I did the “southern wedding” entirely correct, but I felt good about my outfit. This was a learning experience with this one and I definitely took a few learnings away from it that I can carry with me onto my next two weddings in 2018!
