What To Wear: New Year’s Eve 2018

Talulah Slip Mini Dress$125 – 62.50

Every year, New Year’s Eve is the holiday that I look forward to the least! Except… for this year because I’m ditching the Seattle cold and bar scene for a relaxing New Year’s vacay poolside in Palm Springs. This is the first time that I’m ever traveling for this holiday, but very much looking forward to it. If there was any downside at all, it was figuring out how to pack from San Francisco for two very extreme climates. Happy to share the news that we survived that ordeal.

New Year’s Eve can be a hit or miss. Since everything is planned so last minute, you have a 50% chance of having your plans fall completely flat or having them be completely fun and spontaneous. Those are the stories that I love hearing about! Here is to a surprising midnight event for y’all, a fantastic outfit to kick things off in, and a very happy new year. Here are some of my very favorite last minute picks!

2017 Best Nine

My favorite part of this year’s best nine is that these are nine different events! I know I’ve always sided with Lo from Laguna Beach when she said that “every day is a fashion show,” but in these cases, I just happened to get lucky. Some of these were taken on just regular work days or to brunch, but other times they were to Jodie’s wedding this past spring or my first work outing my very first week in Los Angeles. I’m grateful for these memories, but even more for these outfits! I’ll be writing another post soon on my favorite outfits from this year so it will be interesting to see if any of those overlap with these.

Shoutout to all my Instagram husbands and wives! I wouldn’t be where I am without you and at the end of the day, it’s very cool to see these nine as the most picked favorites.

adidas Skateboarding Presents /// Nora

If you have some extra down time over the holidays, I highly recommend watching the new short film by adidas on Nora – a young woman who has loved skateboarding since a very young age and continues to spread her love for it even into adulthood inspiring a new and younger generation of girls. Nora Vasconcellos is adidas’ first female Pro Skater and the short doc highlights her story as well as those around her who have watched her rise to the top.

Yow Yow’s Top 10 Posts of 2017

It isn’t hard to push out a post when I need to. They can range from anything to a YouTube video to a song on Spotify or a quote against a printed background in an interesting typeface on Pinterest. While I like to think that varying lengths of posts make Yow Yow! really interesting, it’s those essays that I spend the most time on that I’m proud of. 2017 was a year of changes not only for me personally, but for Yow Yow! There was a lot happening in the world that I wanted to share an opinion about and I’ll admit, I don’t always get it right. I’ve received some criticism over the last year for some of the pieces that I’ve written, which challenged me, but I also received positive feedback as well. Overall, it felt like a step in the right direction. As much as I love writing about food, music, and fashion, I can’t let Yow Yow! only be about that. And the reason why is just because that’s not what I’m only all about. Thank you all for letting me stretch my creativity with this and for continuing to stick with us.

COUNT EM’ 1, 2… 60? 2017

This is always one of my favorite year-end round up lists to write! Throughout the years, I’ve had so many different platforms that I’ve used to listen to music. It started when I was young just listening to the radio with my tape ready to record a track – making mix tapes the old school way. From there, Kevin and I graduated to downloading songs off the internet (c’mon everyone did it!) then to iTunes, websites like SoundCloud, and then Spotify. How I lived a life without Spotify previously is beyond me. Last year, I relied heavily on the playlist that they had curated for me highlighting my top 100 tracks based on plays from the last year. I listened to mine for 2017 as well and while I think that it is mostly correct, I’m so OCD that I need to cross check it with my own list to make sure that it is 100% accurate. 2017 was such a great year for music and I can’t wait to share with you my favorites below! Rotten Apples

In 2017, it seems like nearly everyone from the entertainment industry has been accused of sexual assault and/or sexual harassment and guess what – men? There are no varying levels or degrees to which one is worse than the other. It’s all bad.

It has been a disappointing year for all of this, but nothing makes me more proud than hearing every single woman step up, share their story, and call out their accusers. Rotten Apples is a new website that lets you search a TV series or film and tells you which alleged harassers are tied to it. Since I’m watching Rush Hour with my family this evening, I decided to type it into the search bar and look what popped up for me. Not even that is safe. While the website seems interesting and of course, informative – it really does help to drive awareness in seeing how many harassers are involved in the things that we all watch.

Muni Lover

Sunglasses – Marc Jacobs / Striped Dress – Azalea / Black Dress – Brandy Melville / Bag – Madewell

I knew that it would be somewhat of a fashion risk to layer two dresses on top of each other this day, but the good thing about a bad outfit is that it only lasts one day. The whole look was very 90’s (hence the choke-a-loke) and I actually could have pulled this off if not for one little detail. The layered black dress landed just above my knees and if it were just a little bit shorter, it would have been perfect. And okay, if the collar for the black dress would have been a smidge higher, I could’ve worked with that too.

These photos were taken in front of where all the Munis live in the Mission District and was one of my favorite spots! I often miss it and I know there’s a lot of people don’t quite understand my love for this location, but I’m completely obsessed with it. Something about all the buses, man.

Holiday Gift Guide 2017

Away Carry-On – $225

Instead of doing a normal “The Closet” post, we’re switching things up and calling it a gift guide. A lot of these things I’m going to want anyways, but why not make it more general for all of my readers? I’m also trying to post this early enough so that you can make it just in time to slide it underneath the Christmas tree for your loved ones. I promise you, there’s something for everyone. Why? Because I didn’t want to make a gift guide just for your best friend, your mom, your dad, or your sibling. It’s a catch all here.

Gramovox Floating Record Player – $550 (okay this may not come in time for Christmas)

The Royal Wedding – Part 2: Engagement Photos

We may have missed this by a couple of days, but this engagement photo shoot of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is everything. Honestly, did anyone ever think that it could be a disaster? I know it seems like things are moving fast and that this whole news of their engagement was quick, but we’re obsessed already.

For the shoot, Meghan wore a ballgown from the Ralph & Russo Fall 2016 collection. Their stunning engagement photos were shot by photographer Alexi Lubomirski.
