Weekend Watch:

After a weekend of many visitors in town, I thought I’d take a weekend off for myself. I’m also taking care of some home stuff, which is keeping me closer. It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up on some new Netflix releases including a documentary that I’ve been looking forward to, “Shirkers” and the new series, “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.” Both are quite different, but it’s nice to shake things up a bit.

In my own words, “Shirkers” is a documentary about three young teenagers who set out to make a film back in 1992. They enlist Georges Cardona who is their mentor to help them with it. In the process, he seemingly disappears and essentially ghosts the three of them. He vanishes along with all of the footage. The thrilling part of this documentary is getting to know who he is and the mystery that surrounds him. The best part is seeing three friends with an imagination and creating something from nothing.

On the other hand, “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” – though about the same character – is nothing like “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” This is no TGIF! The show is produced by the same people who did Riverdale so if that gives you the scaries, this will too. I never watched Kiernan Shipka on “Mad Men,” but it’s refreshing to see her grow into her stardom. She’s a likable character, a woman wise beyond her teenage years who is a feminist and stands up for herself, her friends, and what is right.
