There couldn’t be a better time for this film to come out than around wedding season. Watching this trailer definitely gives me deja vu vibes of one of my favorite movies – Friends With Benefits. The premise isn’t surprising. Two very close friends continue to be each other’s wedding dates until people start to recognize that they would actually make a pretty great couple!
In a way, this reminds me of Manan and I because while we are not and have never been anything more than friends, we have been to four weddings together.
The movie stars Maya Erskine who is one half of the lead in my favorite show PEN15 and Jack Quaid – son of Dennis Quaid and Meg Roberts. PLUS ONE comes out in theaters June 14th!
The timeline and history of how this song came to be is one of my favorite stories. “Old Town Road” is honestly so good, but I don’t want it to just become a one hit wonder. I really hope that Lil Nas X takes this and runs with it to make more incredible hits.
It isn’t easy to watch things like this, but when I come across something that is beautifully done and that I haven’t seen before, it feels wrong to not share it. I felt a lump in my throat the entire duration. There were even parts where I had to pause the video and return to it later. It has been a long time since I’ve had to do that. Columbine was the first major school shooting that I could remember growing up. At the time, I was 9 years old. I hate that the frequency of school shootings today have become our new normal and it broke my heart to learn of the one even this week. Why a change has yet to be made is still beyond me.
Tyra may have retired back in 2005, but she’s still got it! In news that no one expected, Tyra Banks is gracing the cover of this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and killing it. At 45, Banks is proving to everyone that age and body can’t stop you from owning a cover shot. In fact, she cited this not only as her motivation, but a personal achievement for herself. Another reason why this cover is iconic, is because Banks also appeared on the cover back in 1997. Back then, she was the first Black model to ever appear by herself on the cover of the magazine.
This is Tyra’s third cover with the magazine and hopefully not her last!
I’m glad that we haven’t reached this point in our Instagram career yet, but not proud to say that we’ve gotten very close. The world of Instagram is so strange. On a weekly basis, my friends and I discuss how Instagram manages to seep into our relationships, partnerships, and sometimes careers. Even in the last year, I’ve been wrestling with my account and the thought has crossed my mind about creating necessary boundaries for myself. Though I haven’t discussed it on Yow Yow! it’s something that I’ve considered for the last year. I’m not entirely comfortable with all that I’m seeing on Instagram and often wonder if my account mirrors those that make me uncomfortable as well.
We’ll spend some more time unpacking this in a future post. For now, I want to share this ridiculous coverage that VICE shot on the poppy fields. Here’s an example of what not to do.
Since we returned from Taipei, I’ve been spending a little bit more time thinking about my meals. American breakfast can be so heavy at times with their pancakes, omelettes and french toast. It’s not my favorite because naturally, it makes me so sleepy! In Taipei, Angel and I got used to starting our day with a bowl of noodle soup. Occasionally, growing up, I would have that meal at home too so it wasn’t completely unfamiliar to me. Different cultures breed different kind of breakfasts though and that’s why [Kantine] was intriguing to me.
Kantine is Scandinavian inspired and allows you to create your own breakfast board. What Winny and I loved about this spot was the variety! I’m someone that gets bored of my food fast so if I order one thing that is fairly large ie) a stack of pancakes, I won’t be able to finish. Smaller portions and different flavors are my jam. For $15, you can pick five items and for $19, you get 7 items. Five felt like the perfect amount and I remember feeling pleasantly full after our meal.
