2019 Fashion Awards

Sara Sampaio in Armani Prive

Since award show season doesn’t exactly hit until early next year, I was concerned that we wouldn’t have too many red carper coverages this month. Instead, we got one that exceeded our expectations with the Fashion Awards this past week!

H&M Will Try Clothing Rental Service

For a brand that is already considered fast fashion, will a clothing rental service work? It seems like Rent the Runway is the leader in this business model, but I used to think that was because their pieces were high end. Starting out first as a rental for gowns, they have now shifted to regular everyday clothing. If H&M can tackle the same, then it could actually work for them!

How it works: members of the brand’s loyalty program will have access to 50 pieces that they can rent for a period of time. For now, this will only be launched in Sweden for $37/week. After a three-month trial period, the brand will then assess how the program is working. H&M was the staple of my college years and post-college in the business formal working environment. Since then, I haven’t shopped there much except for perusing the sales, but readers, if this were offered in the states, would you try it?

The Rise and Fall of Juicy Couture

Earlier this year, my team threw an early 2000’s happy hour and came dressed in Juicy Couture sweatsuits for it. It got me wondering how the brand rose to popularity and then disappeared all of a sudden. This video depicting their origin shows that they were the OG brand gifters that paved the way for everyone else today. While I never owned a suit myself, I did once buy a black Juicy Couture bikini on sale. I’m not sure if I would feel okay being caught wearing it today, but at the time, I loved it.

Pizza Babe

Dress – Aritzia / Cardigan – Mom’s / Sandals – Oak + Fort

My favorite part about summertime in San Francisco is how long the days end up stretching! Angel and I did an early dinner one Friday at Pizzeria Delfina (my favorite!) and by the time we were out, it was still so light out. For years, I’ve heard that mixing black and blue was a huge no-no, but not in my book. I’m not sure if it’s just that I don’t care or that I like the ease of wearing a dress and tossing any cardigan over it. Color combos don’t mean a thing to me unless it’s a huge clash and even then, it rarely happens. The forecast for this week is a consistent rain. I’m sure we need it, but I’d rather go back to these summer days!
