My First Wedding Tasting

Jumpsuit – Nordstrom / Sandals – Oak + Fort

When Elynn asked me if I wanted to join her and Michael for an afternoon of tasting wedding food, I had to contain my excitement. On one hand, I was thrilled. It’s an honor to sit next to my two friends and make the big decision of what would be served for their special day. On the other hand, I was dealing with some conflict. After all, this wasn’t my day (yet!) and I wondered if I’d be taking something away from myself by joining them. When I was living in Seattle, I partnered with the Nordstrom Wedding Suite on a post and was invited to try on samples from their trunk show. Bridal. Gowns. I didn’t skip a beat turning it down. With the food tasting, I felt a little bit differently! My friends wanted my opinion and also, we’re not going to turn down delicious food and wine.

While plenty of my friends have gotten married, Elynn and Michael are the first in which I have more insight into their planning process. At the tasting, we weren’t alone. There were maybe 10 other brides and grooms present. Sometimes it was just the couple, but others brought whole families, parents, friends, the works. The menu had 5 options for every course so we left the day feeling more than full. There isn’t a rhyme or reason to how things get decided here. Michael preferred to eat everything as it came and would give his opinions after sampling everything. Elynn and I would talk things over with every new bite that we had.

I’ve spent many years with the both of them eating at different restaurants. When it comes to food, they know their stuff. This isn’t an area we were going to skimp on when it came to the wedding. The food, from the main course, down to the appetizers, needed to be exceptional. Additionally, it needed to represent the two of them.
