Target’s Summer Collection of Designer Dresses

Today was the day that we caved on our shopping habit. It started with a father’s day card, but ended in a checkout that was both a card and a candle (for me.) We then followed it up by purchasing not one, but two pairs of leggings from Aritzia. Once you get started, there is no going back! To top off all my purchases, we just learned that Target is releasing a highly anticipated collection just in time for restrictions around the country to start lifting.

In a new collaboration with brands that include Cushnie and LoveShackFancy, Target is releasing a line of delicious dresses that are about to fill our closets. There will be more than 70 different dresses to choose from all ranging between $40 and $60. Dresses will hit Target.com starting June 6th and in stores June 15th. Here are our favorite picks!

Wedding Mondays

Photo: Annabel of Belathee

It hasn’t been easy seeing all of my friends having to postpone what will be the most important day in their lives. This was supposed to be a big wedding year for us and it’s all of a sudden not. Some of my friends have decided to postpone an entire year while others are still finding ways to honor their original date. I’ve been waiting to find the perfect socially distanced quarantine wedding to share with all of you for Wedding Mondays and I think we did!

Elaine Welteroth and Jonathan Singletary met as kids at church through their mothers. It wasn’t until adulthood that they would finally end up together. Their story depicts how they planned to marry in their hometown of where they met back home, but COVID-19 had other plans. Not wanting to let go of their original date – 5/10/20 the couple moved forward and married right on their stoop. Following the exchanging of their vows was the best wedding block party I’ve ever seen! The photos are a must to look at, but we’ve also got a video that captures it all. For the full story, check out their wedding feature on [Vogue]

What We’re Listening To Today:

We’re already feeling withdrawals from the final two episodes of The Last Dance yesterday evening. As a gift to us, Spotify created a playlist featuring every song that was played during the documentary. We’ve only just started to press play, but this is exactly the Monday motivation we needed.

THE HOOD INTERNET presents 1986

In a way, The Hood Internet feels like a throwback in itself! They’ll be producing a new mashup of more than 50 songs from 1986 every Thursday for the next four weeks. We really enjoyed this first one!

Sunday Check In

It’s not often that we get these periods of time where we can focus entirely on Yow Yow! Getting alone time with the blog only happens when I’m in between jobs or the holidays. Since we’ve been in quarantine, I’ve written more than I would have, but not to the level that I was expecting for myself. To be honest, I thought that I would be a content machine on Yow Yow! and that hasn’t been the case. I’ve boiled this down to a couple of reasons. First, my content is being spread between here, Instagram and TikTok. Secondly, we’re in a pandemic and that just changes the entire game.

At the start of quarantine, I read many articles about how people should be spending their time. Long story short, it’s okay if you don’t pick up a skill, create a side hustle, or read a gazillion books during this time. Our focus isn’t all there. The content that we’d normally write has shifted a bit. Obviously it no longer makes sense for me to talk about shopping the same way we did before. Since I’m not going outside as much, we don’t have outfit posts. There was also the internal struggle I had with myself about how much non-covid-19 related content to post vs. covid-19 related.

We are however many weeks into this quarantine by now and while I haven’t figured it out entirely, there is something that I’m sure of. Yow Yow! gives me a voice on this platform like none other. The way I write here is different from any other platform that I use. It may have taken me 11 years to acknowledge that, but I am grateful to still have this. And as fulfilled as I am writing this blog, it is still not at that point that I would give up my career for it. Having these two sides of my life doesn’t come without complexities. Many bloggers I follow have had to make that decision for themselves in the past. Creating content on a daily basis isn’t as easy as it looks!

The answer to what you build next in life isn’t always the gift of time. Instead, forgive yourself if you choose to do nothing with this time you’ve been given. This pause is a great opportunity to take care of yourself, relax, and get the sleep you’ve been wanting to catch up on.

This Weekend:

Doesn’t it seem like the weekends are just flying by once again? I guess in a way this means that we’ve adapted. I remember how early on in shelter-in-place where the days felt like they were stretching beyond just 24 hours. Now when someone asks me about my weekend, I can look back on it and actually feel productive. In California, companies are trying to figure out when it will be appropriate to return back to our offices. For now, it looks like I can expect a potential September return. If that’s the case, we’ll likely take a look at our current routine and modify it so that it’s sustainable for the next few months.

Here’s a little bit of what we’re up to this weekend!

What We’re Watching: The Last Dance (ESPN)

We’ve been watching this since the first night it premiered and I’m sad to finish the last two episodes tonight. It really has been an extraordinary documentary, if not, my favorite one of the year. I grew up knowing about how talented the Chicago Bulls were, but was obviously to young to comprehend the drama. For those of you who aren’t able to watch it on ESPN, the series will be on Netflix sometime next month for you to enjoy!

What We’re Listening To: Local Natives – Hummingbird (Deluxe Version)

Weekends are always reserved for some of my favorite albums. Whether I’m spending the day cleaning or writing content, I want to be able to have the soundtrack be something I’m familiar and comfortable with. I don’t think we’ll ever get sick of listening to Local Natives and even though this album is from 2013, it’s timeless in my eyes.

What We’re Wearing: Heels!

This isn’t the exact pair of Oak + Fort heels that I do own, but if you like these, you can save this [link] for when they are back in stock. Since we’ve been in quarantine, I haven’t worn any other pair of shoes except for sneakers. After all, we didn’t have a reason too! However, for a special outing yesterday, I wanted to feel a little bit more like my normal self. Contrary to what some may believe, it isn’t that difficult to put them back on again.

What We’re Eating: In N’ Out

It was my first burger of quarantine and boy, were we craving it! Since it had been so long, I wasn’t going to miss a chance to get my usual order – a cheeseburger animal style with well-done fries and a strawberry milkshake. To top it all off, we stopped next door at the Krispy Kreme to get a dozen donuts only to receive an extra free dozen on top of that! It was our lucky day!

The Ceramic Pots We Need

I’m a sucker for anything that combines two things that I like. In a new collaboration, plants can now live in these ceramic pots designed to look like a sacai x Nike sneaker. Colored in off-white, [Bodega Rose] designed these pots to be a replica of the original product. This planter along with one resembling the Prada hat were released this morning and are already sold out on their [website] With some luck, maybe you’ll catch them again when they restock or find something else on the site for yourself. Whatever the case, this item is getting put on our want list for now. Why have a regular pot when you can have this one?
