Zimmermann

Maybe it’s because I rarely find myself dressing up like I used to at home, but I feel much more of a calling to dramatic pieces more than ever. Pre-COVID, I don’t think you would find me in ruffles like these. However this paired with this summery orange hue look like a dream to me. We’ve been long time fans of Zimmermann and their Resort collection is the summer style we’re craving.

Satin Jackets – Think About It

Because it’s almost Friday and we could use a little bit of disco to take us into the weekend.

Outside Lands 2021

It’s official, Outside Lands 2020 is cancelled. Attempting to build anticipation, the festival organizers have already released the lineup for 2021 and will begin selling tickets. With everyone going on, it’s unlikely that we’ll see any live musical events before the end of the year. It just means that we’ll have to take full advantage of the next year given all that we’ve endured. Readers, how are we feeling about this lineup? I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve been out of the loop, but I recognize very few of these acts. Lizzo was a major player in last year’s festival circuit, but I have been wanting to see Kehlani for years!

Nike Air Flight ’89 – Seattle SuperSonics Colorway

For as long as I continue to exist, I will always pray every year that the NBA will gift us with a basketball team back. Several times a year, I find myself questioning why a metropolitan city like Seattle had their basketball team ripped away from us in the first place. It makes no sense. Lucky for me, I’m not alone in this. The fact that Nike created this Air Flight ’89 in our team’s colorway tells me that brands feel this loss too. When we’ll get our team back, no one really knows. For now, our legacy can live on in this sneaker which you can now purchase from [Nike Japan] for $120 USD.

An Audience of Plants For Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu

Phase 4 and what we know to be live performances like the one above are still far off. However, there may not need to be a reason for events to be postponed any longer if we can ensure they are done in a safe manner. Instead of performing to a crowd of people, Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu filled the venue with 2,292 plants. All participants involved were safe and it resulted in the best photo op.

Can you imagine what it would have been like to be in this opera house with your sense of sound, smell, and sight all being ignited? Following the performance, all plants were donated to health care workers who have been in the trenches tackling the virus.

Netflix’s “Over the Moon”

I will never get over having those warm and fuzzies from watching a show or a film with an Asian lead. Animated or not, adult me is excited regardless for a younger generation that can grow up seeing leads that look like themselves. Pixar is the reigning champ in producing pieces that tug at our heart strings, but who is to say that Netflix can’t do the same? In their new film out this fall, “Over the Moon” tells the story of a young girl who loses her mother and recalls her mother’s favorite Chinese mythology tale. Yes, we’re ripping this bandaid off already.

The tale tells the story of a moon goddess and years later, Fei Fei (the main character) is out to prove that she exists. Fei Fei, herself, is in STEM and builds a rocket that will launch her all the way to the moon. I grew up being a little bit of a space nut myself, so this film is right up my alley. We can’t wait to see this debut!

The Balance in “Working From Home”

There was a time in my life when I wondered what it might be like to a) be my own boss or b) work from home permanently. I’m currently getting a taste of the working from home opportunity and it has been eye-opening.

To be honest, working from home is not that bad. I mean I can work from the comfort of my own house and the work seems to be done smoothly. However, this situation might have built up a burden on the shoulders of the firms or entrepreneurs to ensure data and cloud security as most or all of their employees are working remotely and there is a constant sharing of data online. Though using software similar to Google Cloud Security safety and security could be achieved seamlessly, I am not sure how the company owners feel about this new normal. This is certainly something entirely new for everyone but it is also interesting to see how some enterprises are trying to keep the employees happy using different tools. See for instance the company I am employed in. This firm tends to give us opportunities to play virtual team building games and participate in other activities to strengthen employee bonds. We get our meetings hosted on virtual event management platforms where we feel like we are talking to each other in our office-yes, it offers a very realistic experience. I feel that taking the help of technology has prevented workplace misunderstandings and also contributed to productivity. The truth is that all of these have changed my perspective on looking at remote jobs–earlier, I used to wildly claim that I would never want to work at home permanently. Actually, plenty of individuals do this each year, where they make their income online through websites potentially similar to Portmoni or even through working on eBay.

Anyway, though there is no problem with respect to the job, I feel like changing my tune after three full months of working remotely– and it is related to how an individual can balance their personal and professional life. There’s a lot to love between having flexibility and minimizing in-office distractions. As we head into the summer months though, I’m starting to notice one very obvious negative to it.

I know that this is in large part due to the pandemic, but because of these circumstances, we have very little to look forward to. Vacations and getting away from your home are at everyone’s own discretion currently. If you’re playing it very safe though, you likely don’t have anything on the books. In a way, does it makes sense to request time off when we have so much flexibility now? If so, does it feel justified? What do we do with that time in a pandemic?

With 4th of July just around the corner, this is top of mind for me. Originally, I had wanted to wait until I had had a win at work so that I could justify taking a couple extra days for myself. This isn’t always easy when you know that there are others that depend on you. I remembered though that over Memorial Day, I was lucky to have four days and that did wonders for my mental health and ensuring that I didn’t burn out. So while we may not be going anywhere, it’s helpful to remember that an extra “weekend” day is not a day wasted when it’s for yourself.

We’ve been a fan of Jay’s ever since we first heard “Numb” and this song is no exception to being one of our favorites.

Alo Yoga’s Summer Collection

Before I got into CorePower, I was doing everything I could to avoid buying active wear. My rationale was this: why do I need pieces that can only be used for one activity? Instead, I tried to go to classes wearing pieces that I already owned that I assumed would work. A pair of leggings and an old loose fitting tank top got the job done, but I didn’t feel comfortable. Because the tank top was so loose, I found that it often got in the way. In a downward dog, the tank top was flailing. Soon after this, I conformed and now here I am getting excited about the release of a new collection by [Alo Yoga] When it came time to buy my first active wear pieces, they were the ones I turned to.

Their summer collection, dropped in celebration of International Yoga Day, is full of summer and earthy tones that bring warmth. As you can see above, it’s a spectrum of yellows, olives, and bronze hues. You can shop the collection now!
