Little Hills Christmas Tree Farm

Hat + Leggings – Aritzia / Vest – Uniqlo / Socks – SmartWool / Uggs

I love Mandi and Eric because they are such a fun and adventurous couple. It seems like every weekend they’re always having these outings together and they never really mind to have me third wheel. Of course, the feeling is mutual because they’re my favorite couple to third wheel anyways! Back in December after Thanksgiving weekend, the three of us drove to Little Hills Christmas Farm and picked out their 3rd Christmas Tree since living in the Bay Area. They encouraged me to get one for my little home too, but I was having fun just enjoying the ride over with them! Also, it’s a great excuse to dress up like we’re back in the Pacific Northwest again. Throughout the year, it’s very rare for anyone to see me out dressed like this unless it’s for an occasion (like this one!) because as you know we get a little bit fancier for work. I know Uggs are like totally OUT, but whatever, they’re still super comfy, ok? This Christmas tree farm outfit seems much more reasonable than the one I wore two years ago, wouldn’t you agree?

Grandma Buddy’s Christmas Trees

Sweater – Urban Outfitters / Vest – Uniqlo / Belt – Madewell / Denim – Levi’s / Boots – J. Crew

Can it be? Christmas in July?! Or is it really just a backlog of posts that I’m still getting to from the winter? 😉

Every winter, I look forward to heading up to a Christmas Tree Farm with Mandi and Eric to help them find the tree of their dreams. It’s a different one each time and that’s what makes this such an adventure. We’ve headed north, south and east and each time this idea of finding a new tree is so entertaining to me. We leave the day after I get back from my SoCal Thanksgiving trip and this year’s venture was the best because it included both brunch before and wine tasting after – a first for us!

It’s a special tradition that we have and though we didn’t know it at the time, this would be the last time we’d be doing this as Mandi and Eric are off to New York City this coming fall! More on that later…

Out of all the outfits that I’ve worn to the Christmas Tree farm, this one is the best because it truly embodies my inner lumberjack. If I lived outside the city surrounded by trees, this would probably be my every day uniform. The dark elements to the outfit give it the rugged vibe, but this gold Madewell belt is sort of everything, isn’t it?!

Take Me to the Farm!

Scarf and Leggings – Aritzia / Vest – Uniqlo / Mittens – Urban Outfitters / Boots – Hunter

Well what do you know, a Christmas time post in the month of May! We’re behind on outfit posts as usual, but it has always been a tradition to share my moments at the Christmas Tree Farm and this year is no different. I think these outfit posts are always a little bit funny because I end up bringing out the pieces that I rarely wear on the daily – like these BEAR mittens for example. Also, matching my outfit is not a priority hence this get up. It’s not about being stylish (well, it’s a little bit about being stylish) but it’s about being comfortable and having the appropriate attire to cut down a tree  watch Eric cut down the tree.

Peacock Tree Farm, Los Gatos

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

{Gray long sleeve tee: Sway and Cake (Seattle boutique)}
{Open cardigan: Brandy Melville}
{Olive jacket: Aritzia}
{Cream scarf: Hollister Co.}
{Black leggings: Aritzia}
{Glasses: Warby Parker}
{Cross-body bag: Urban Outfitters}
{Boots: Steve Madden}

If someone were to ask me what my standard everyday outfit would be, this would probably be it. Seattle raised me well, you guys. Check out those layers and that Starbucks red cup. Actually every time, we post an outfit post, I feel like I have a funny story about several of the pieces. First off, I’ve had these Steve Madden boots since college and the heels are not completely falling apart, but on its way there. The heels have been worn down, but not evenly so when I walk I feel like I am lopsided. I’ve had this Hollister scarf since middle school and to this day, I still consider it a regular staple. Bree needed a Christmas tree for the holidays so I tagged along to help her catch the tree when she “sawed the bitch down.” (Her words not mine) The Christmas tree farm is no joke. There’s so many. It’s in the middle of nowhere and it’s freezing out there. I suppose I was also there to act as a ruler as she wanted one that was just around my height.

Saturday Check In

I think we can agree that celebrating holidays in 2020 are out of the ordinary this year. In all the years that I have lived in the Bay Area, I never once considered decorating at my home let alone purchasing any kind of Christmas tree – real or fake. For years, I was the one accompanying Mandi and Eric to various Christmas tree farms around the Bay Area to pick out theirs. Each time, they offered to assist me in chopping it down (if I changed my mind) and each time I politely declined.

However, this year is different. In prior years, it wasn’t necessary to spend the time or money decorating because I wasn’t here for the holidays. My parents had their own tree that I grew up with. It didn’t matter if I had my own in San Francisco because my tree was back in Seattle. As a holiday, I like Christmas. I’m not obsessed with it the way some people I know are. Having just passed Thanksgiving, I realized I might be having a change of heart. In 2020, every day is the same. Our landmarks to show us how time passes are these holidays. Sometimes, it’s all we feel that we have. Unlike me, Kevin succumbed to a mini Christmas tree already!

It was present for our Thanksgiving, less than three feet tall and adorned with lights. Looking at it brought me a renewed sense of joy that I didn’t think I needed. When the power cut out and we had to arrange what could stay “plugged in” or not, I found myself saying, “the Christmas tree needs to stay!” And on Small Business Saturday, I found myself at the local gift shop purchasing two new ornaments which I plan to hang on Kevin’s mini Christmas tree. The debate is open on whether or not I still purchase my own, but in any case, it’s clear that we are celebrating here this year.
