I know we’re in the process of curbing our shopping habit currently, but I couldn’t help myself from this Something Navy cardigan! Cardigans are making a comeback this coming season – long ones, short ones – and ones worn without anything underneath and as a top themselves. They are a classic staple and always have been. I had a chance to peep the Something Navy collection online before heading into Nordstrom to try it on myself. The buttons were what really ddi me in. They had a very pretty sheen to them and were a total 90’s look. Worn with jeans or even my long slip dress, it ends up being a versatile piece. The sweater is still available online at Nordstrom if any of y’all are interested [here!]
Writing this is like a blast from the past! The last time we wrote up a [“Proud Owner“] post was back in 2016. It’s unclear why I decided to take a hiatus from this series because we definitely didn’t stop shopping in the last three years. There could also be an opposite take in which I was shopping too much. Whatever the case, it’s a series I’d like to bring back. It was never meant to be boastful about my spending habits, but rather a journal of what I’m into at the moment. Going back into the archives, I’m able to see what I have purchased beyond the last three years at least and what brought me to make the purchase.
As a way to revive this series, I wanted to share my latest buy. We’ve been gearing up for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale next week (practically a holiday in my book!) so spending is minimal. After breakfast at Stonemill Matcha with Elynn, we stopped into Everlane. This pullover [French Terry Crew] is very simple. I don’t want to say there isn’t anything special about it but it’s true. At first glance you might drive on by. It actually reminds me of the Subpop pullover I already own. Since that one is quite busy with text all over it, I wanted something that was the opposite. I love that I can wear this casually with jeans for an every day look. If I’m out it can be worn over a skirt or a dress at any event. It’s the ultimate cozy piece and for a steal at just $38. If I was baller, I’d buy this in every color.
If you’ve been following my Instagram all summer, then you know these laser-cut Vince Camuto heels have been pretty much the only thing that I’ve been wearing with almost all of my outfits. I remember walking through Nordstrom the first time I saw these and doing a double take. I know what you’re thinking… “Laser-cut? Don’t you think those will be going out of style?” Well, maybe! But they are SO comfortable and they’re beautiful and I can wear them to work and to events and weddings and feel awesome in them. In fact, I wore them to both weddings that I attended this year and am planning to wear them along with my holiday party outfit too. For me, Vince Camuto is kind of a new brand, but one that I’ve been shopping a lot lately. We now have four pairs of shoes, a purse, and show no signs of slowing down.
It’s no secret that we love an occasional shopping trip, but swimsuit purchases? Those don’t happen very often. Why? Because you never really needed to in Seattle and in California? Well, I’m perfectly fine with the ones I brought with me from Seattle. However, this was a special occasion. I was headed to Palm Springs for the first time for Mandi’s bachelorette and I thought that I might spoil myself a little bit. Spoil doesn’t mean splurge though!
See, I’ve always been on the fence about Triangl bikinis. Everyone has them. Everyone makes knockoffs of them. Is it just one of those fads that’s going to go out of style? I was going through my Instagram feed before the trip when I saw one from their collection that stopped me dead in my tracks. It was super chic and BLACK! It wasn’t in any funky color pairing that I thought I would get tired of. So we stepped outside of our comfort zone not once, but twice because I had to purchase this online. We rarely ever buy things online, but also when you’re buying a swimsuit, you’d rather try it on in person.
So when the package arrived, I was elated to find that everything was fitting me perfectly in all the right places. How was that even possible?! And because it’s in black, it’s super slimming. The material might throw you off though because it’s a rubberized feel, but it actually is much cooler than it sounds! I give this swimsuit 9/10! I probably won’t need another one for awhile nor will I need to purchase another Triangl one, but this one can be my go-to for the next couple of years.
In case you’re wondering, here it is for purchase.
Kevin earned HUGE points at Christmas this year when he gifted me these Nike Flyknit Racers! They are some of my favorite pair of shoes that I currently own and I wear them all the time. I remember thinking that Kevin was cray when he urged me with these very specific instructions:
- When taking off your shoes, you need to untie the laces
- When putting on the shoes, you need to lace them up yourself every. time.
- ie) there’s no slipping in of the foot or slipping it out because the threading is so delicate that you don’t want to run the risk of ripping them
I love the shoes so much that I was so scared of anything ever happening to them so ofc I listened to what my older brother had to say. They are the most lightweight pair of shoes I own and funny enough, after I wore them to work a few times, two of my coworkers went out and purchased their own flyknits as well.
Well it’s a little bit embarrassing how overdue this post is considering that we bought these Dolce Vita booties specifically for fall and now…we’re headed into spring! I really didn’t want to pass up a chance to write a post about these though because they were one of my favorite buys in 2015. I had been looking for a pair of booties for quite some time as I only had my scuffed up black ones that I had stolen from my Mom and my gray ones that I have had for a couple years now. What I really wanted were some short suede ones in a neutral tan color so as soon as these were released, I kept my eye on it for a couple of weeks! I’ve been realizing though that I haven’t worn them to an exhausting amount because since these are lighter colored, I get so nervous about them getting messed up. However, they go really well with cute spring dresses and a pair of denim jeans (not like I wear pants that much anyways!)
When looking ahead to 2016, I mentioned in a previous post that I wanted to start buying candles. I had always felt a little bit behind knowing that all the guys I ever dated had candles on their desk or bedside table whereas buying a candle for my home had never even crossed my mind. Candles are sold everywhere, Rite Aid, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, Safeway – but if I was going to get serious about this, I wanted to do my research. I wanted the best of the best and Mandi let me know that the only place to buy them was Anthropologie.
The same day that I landed back in California after spending the holidays in Seattle, I came home, dropped off my luggage and drove straight to Anthropologie. Since this was going to be a new hobby/collection, I thought I would start off small and purchase 1, but after sniffing almost every candle in the store, limiting myself just didn’t seem like a good idea. Instead, I bought the three pictured above. Three different sizes – all different scents and in three different tins so that they could be re-used. More on that in a future post though!
I realized though that when it came to candles, I was kind of a n00b. I had a lot of questions – all of which Mandi answered for me:
- Should you light more than one at a time?
- How do you know which two to light together?
- What am I supposed to feel when I light candles?
- Will they set off my smoke detector after I blow them out?
- Do you put the lid on top of the candle afterwards? What purpose do those lids serve?
- Do people light candles during the day?
Also, this is embarrassing to admit, but continues to prove how much of an amateur I am with candles – the first night that I lit them I got really close to smell it and a piece of my hair just breezed right on through into the flame.
I purchased these candles at the beginning of January – happy to announce that I have since returned to Anthro to buy two more candles! We’ve got a problem here. I think it’s going to be an expensive collection to keep, but at the same time it’s so nice and relaxing to light them at the end of a work day while I’m writing late night emails or blogging. They also make my apartment smell 110% better!
Wilfred Rosa Dress – $55
What’s Christmas without a little after Christmas Day shopping?! Aritzia was holding their annual Boxing Day sale and of course we couldn’t pass this opportunity up. This time around, I thought I was going to be leaving with a turtleneck of some kind (dress or sweater) and something velvety, but instead I left with a sleeveless dress that I could wear layered during the cold months and well into the spring/summer and a dress that had been sold out for a few weeks and then brought back! When you put on this sweater dress, it’s like wearing pajamas and the coziest thing you’ve ever put on. And because I never feel like I have enough sweaters…we bought one more cardigan to add to the closet.
Wilfred Free Kebede Dress – $125
Wilfred Free Aronson Sweater – $130
This past week, I learned something very important about myself. I am very easily influenced by things I see on Instagram and after seeing a piece on another blogger, I immediately believe that I have to own that same piece. It happened twice this week. So I have a problem. This dress was one of them. I actually saw this in a bright neon yellow/mustard being worn by a girl who works at one of the Free People stores back in Seattle who I follow and without even trying it on, my first thought was – “how can I buy this right now?” I couldn’t find it online unfortunately, but I did manage to find my way to an Urban Outfitters this past week where I discovered this in blue and after pulling it over my head, it was basically a done deal. The back cuts down pretty low and deep so it’s not something that would be appropriate for work I don’t think, but it’s completely perfect for a night out. I bought this in a royal blue… but I may buy it in the yellow too.
Saturdays are great days for shopping trips. When I was living in Seattle, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was a BIG deal and the only Nordstrom that you needed to shop at was obviously the Flagship. Since I’m not a Nordstrom credit card holder (really need to be!) I had to wait until their sale was open to the public. So to prepare, I marked this on my calendar and was out of bed by 9:30 AM this morning to get ready for the big event. I wasn’t alone. The parking lot was already packed by the time I got there at 11. Luckily, I came in with an agenda and knew what I already wanted, but not before I took a stroll to TopShop, TBD, and Savvy just to cover all my bases.
I was in desperate need of a new wallet (I was using a hand-me-down from my mother) and a new everyday black purse (my last one from Azalea broke!) so I was very happy today when I walked away with a perfectly sized Kate Spade wallet and a Vince Camuto purse. I almost bought the matching Kate Spade purse with the wallet, but then I thought, I don’t really want to double match. I was also worried that the Vince Camuto purse was too chunky, but I really liked that it had one main zipped up compartment and two on the side that could button up in case I needed to store more things. Better to be safe than sorry!
Thanks Nordstrom for giving me more everyday essentials to add to my collection!
