2011’s Most Memorable Quotes In Pop Culture

Initially I believed that Kris Humphries’ quote about people not caring about Kim Kardashian after she has kids was the winner of 2011, but now New York Magazine’s post is making me have second thoughts. The magazine has compiled a list of quotes from celebrities, movies, and television series that are catchy, memorable, and just downright silly. A few of these got a chuckle out of me, but I think my favorite ones come from a couple of movies that I did not watch from this year.

“If you don’t surrender that list, I will kill every friend you have — Zake, Keelie, neighbors, even your boring teachers — and when I’m finished you will be responsible for the death of every friend you have on Facebook.” – the villain after Taylor Lautner’s character in Abduction

“This is aaahr time.”Kenny Wormland’s character in the remake of Footloose

Favorite Event of the Year: Capitol Hill Block Party 2011

Two out of three days was just enough to make this festival not only the highlight of my summer, but the most memorable moment of the year. Who can turn down a weekend of great company, amazing live performances, free goodies, front row at Cults, stellar weather and meal breaks at all of my favorite restaurants just outside of the gates? You can’t.

Runner Up: Girl Talk at the Showbox SODO and being on stage!

YouTube Year In Review

Since it already takes me quite a bit of time to write my own recap posts on music, culture, fashion, etc. I have no problem passing along other websites that are doing the “Year in Review” posts much better than I can. YouTube has rounded up some of their most watched videos from 2011 and arranged them in a chronological timeline. I just spent 25 minutes on it. Check it out here!

I am amazed at how easy it is for someone to become a YouTube star these days. It’s actually kind of incredible. Jorge and Alexa, the adorable father-daughter duo who covered “Home” are in a commercial that I see daily. Maria Aragon, the wonderful ten-year old singer who covered “Born This Way” actually got to sing with her idol Lady Gaga on stage at a concert. What would we do without this social networking site?

Count Em’ 1, 2…50? 2011

It’s that time again! Yesterday I wrote up my top ten favorite songs of 2011 for an online magazine that I freelance for so I figured now would be a good time to just finish the rest of the list off for Yow Yow. This year, there will  be a few changes to the list. In the past, I have always picked my favorite 50 songs from the year regardless of the year that they were released. Sometimes I fell in love with a much older song – for example this year that song would be Rich Girl by Hall & Oates. However, I would like to follow the same format as other lists being published and the only way to do that is by sticking to this year only. The list will be out of order once again meaning the number one song may not be my number one favorite song of the year. There will also be no chronological order as I switched laptops earlier in the year and iTunes didn’t bother to save my data, which makes everything inconvenient for me. All complaints aside,

Here are my favorite 50 songs of 2011:

1. Alex Winston – Velvet Elvis

2. Tune-Yards – Bizness

3. Porcelain Raft – Tip Of Your Tongue

4. Toro y Moi – New Beat

5. Tim & Jean – Afrika

6. The Head And The Heart – Lost In My Mind

7. Peter Bjorn and John – Second Chances

8. Mr. Little Jeans – Rescue Song (RAC Remix)

9. The Weeknd – What You Need

10. Lissie – Pursuit of Happiness (Kid Cudi cover)

2011 Movie Guide A-Z

If you’re a huge movie buff like myself, then you will spend at least 20 minutes reading over the new list of movies to be released in 2011. There are some movies that weren’t included on this list because for the most part, these are just studio films. I also missed seeing the Justin Timberlake/Mila Kunis rom-com “Friends With Benefits” on the list as well. No trailers are attached, but there are brief descriptions. Just check out the lenghty list, click here!

Katie’s Favorites of 2010

Favorite Style Icon: Alexa Chung

Earlier this year, my friend Veronica asked me if I would be compiling 20 of my favorite posts to feature like I had done last year. At the end of 2009, I had 1,423 posts. Today, I have 3502 posts. Going through that many from this year alone does not sound fun to me. 2010 was a great year and there are many special posts that mean something to me, but the task is exhausting. After starting the process, I decided to opt out of it and bring you my favorites in other things instead as a way to look back on this year. Enjoy!
