Happy 4th of July!

Three-day weekends are soooooo nice. Even though I’m just one day in, I’m already feeling pretty relaxed and rejuvenated. What is everyone up to today?! 4th of July isn’t one of those holidays that I love looking forward to or even love celebrating, but it’s still nice to get together with friends and family. When I was a kid, we always threw a party with our neighbors and friends which was such a happy memory for me. However, as I got older they just become BBQ’s and fireworks and kind of all over the place. Last year, my three girlfriends were in town from Seattle and we had so much fun catching up with other friends from college and attempting to watch the fireworks from the city. This year, I wanted to do something that was even more non-traditional of the holiday, but am not able to do that because I didn’t plan ahead. I wanted to treat myself by going to a spa and staying overnight! Is that crazy? I can’t think of anything more pampering for myself. Maybe I’ll just do that in a few weeks 🙂

Whatever the case, have a safe and fun 4th of July y’all!

The Weekend: 5 Things

ice cream

Hello!

I hope all of you had such a wonderful 4th of July weekend. This past weekend had me incredibly spoiled with happy hours, dinners, friends, and family!   Can we have 4-day weekends all of the time? Kevin and I have been craving ice cream sandwiches like when we were kids so today  we contemplated at the grocery store whether or not we should buy a box of 12 or a box of 16. In the end, it didn’t really matter because we got what we wanted all along.

Happy 4th of July!

Good morning readers! Happy holidays! I hope you are all enjoying your time off with friends and family. It’s a little cloudy here in Seattle this morning, but supposedly it will clear up later this afternoon enough for me to attend some of my bbqs. If you’ve been wondering what kind of dessert recipe I am hoping to make today, the answer is still ‘I don’t know,’ which is one of the reasons I am up and running on my laptop this morning. It’s time to hit Pinterest.

Just wanted to leave you all a note though to have a safe and fun holiday! Time off is especially nice during the summer.

Viewing the Fireworks from Capitol Hill

Have you solidified your plans for the 4th of July yet? It’s tomorrow and if you’re like me, you’re probably going to end up waiting until the last minute. Last year, I was in San Francisco for the holiday so I didn’t have to do any planning on my end (thank goodness!) because the city and the company I was with offered up plenty of ideas to keep us busy throughout the whole day. The 4th is kind of one of those holidays where it is okay to plan last minute. Let’s be honest – what all can we do with it other than have a BBQ during the day and watching the 15-20 minute show at night? If you’re currently caught in a limbo of what to do, at least watch the show, right?

The Capitol Hill Seattle blog has provided a thorough overview of locations where you can spot the fireworks in Capitol Hill tomorrow night and some added tips on how to make your day and night run more smoothly.

How Will We Celebrate The 4th Of July In Seattle?

The 4th of July fireworks show  in Seattle has officially been cancelled and it is a sad day for all. I was out of town last year for the 4th, but nearly every year, I’ve always sat on top of the hill in Kirkland to watch the show. I’m direction impaired though so I wouldn’t be able to tell you if I was watching the Seattle or Bellevue show from where I was. Regardless, many locals celebrate with this event every year and it saddens me to hear that it just won’t be happening because of lack of funding. This year, the $500,000 show came up short in corporate sponsors and that is the reason why it has been cancelled.

One Reel has spent the past nine months trying to raise money for the 4th of July tradition. Despite a major fundraising campaign in March, the group only received $55,000 in donations.  Stone said everyone who made a contribution will get a refund.

San Diego 4th of July Firework Fail

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuJHfkXEI-o&feature=player_embedded]

My co-worker told me yesterday that San Diego had a very interesting 4th of July firework malfunction over the holiday in which 30 minutes of the show were scaled down to just 15 seconds. Additionally, the show started 15 minutes earlier than it was supposed to so not everyone had arrived yet who had wanted to catch it.

This past 4th, I ventured down to San Francisco to watch the fireworks and celebrate the holiday for the first time in another city.

How did all of you spend yours?

Out on the Town: 7/4

It may be a little bit too early to secure plans for the 4th of July, but who doesn’t like to be prepared? For the past several years, I have been celebrating the 4th in or around Seattle. Last year,  I think a few of my friends and I had watched the fireworks from underneath a freeway overpass by Volunteer Park. It’s not as sketch as it sounds. This year, however, I might just be having my very own adventure for the 4th for the first time in five years!

No word yet on what that might be, but regardless, Seattle is going to be bumpin’ this year.

Two of my favorite Seattle bands, Pickwick and Hey Marseilles will be performing for the 4th of July festivities at a popular spot for the holiday: Gasworks Park.

Make sure you get there early because these two bands are absolutely amazing.
