Drive-in movie theaters are the summer activity of quarantine! This wouldn’t be the first time we’d be posting about something like this during the pandemic, but it’s starting to pick up traction in other areas. Growing up, drive-ins were the old school outing, but it was considered more of a treat than a constant. For example, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve actually been. However, the Fort Mason location is quite exciting not just cause of proximity, but because it’s a good use of the space.

Beginning September 18th, the drive-in will operate for a month showing two films six days a week until October 18th. “Minions” which will be airing on Friday, September 18th at 6PM is already sold out! One ticket comes at a price for $49 and covers however many people you can fit in your car. For more info, click [here]

The Ways the World Is Taking On Social Distancing

By the time 2020 is over, I’m never going to want to hear the words “social distancing” again. Despite how frequently it comes up, it by no means diminishes how important it is. As countries start to recover and begin their re-opening process, I’m curious to see how they approach it. Last month we shared how [Singapore] was tackling this and in my opinion, they set the bar high. Above, the Izu Shabonten Zoo in Shizuoka, Japan has filled their restaurant with the cutest and most cuddly stuffed critters. Honestly, this seems like something I’d be okay with even without the pandemic. Wouldn’t you agree that this beats filling seats with blow up dolls? The plushies aren’t just there for a cute visual though. They’re being used to mark appropriate safe distances for diners within the restaurant.

In another part of the world, a restaurant in Sweden offers a very different, but more isolated experience. Earlier this month, a chef-husband and wife duo opened up a new concept that allowed diners to be in a bucolic field and receive their meal via basket and clothes line. Completely contactless! This contactless concept doesn’t just go for social distancing in businesses, it is also about updating how they deal with customers in an increasingly digital world. Because people are afraid of touching pretty much anything but they still need to go out, stores are able to implement new Payment Terminal machines that can be completely contactless and accept multiple ways of paying without narrowing in to one area, like using a credit/debit card, making it easier on shoppers.

And back home, a little bit more locally San Francisco parks are adopting the 6ft apart circles inspired by Brooklyn’s parks. Pictured above is Dolores Park in the Mission, but these circles created this past Thursday just in time for the long weekend are living at three other parks within the city. Don’t let your guard down just yet; these circles are meant for groups that are still within the same household of each other.

NYC vs. SF Comics

Even though I’ve lived in San Francisco for eight months now and the Bay Area for nearly five years, it still feels unnatural calling this place home. New York City and San Francisco are both dynamic cities with its own flavor, culture and people. I haven’t spent that much time in New York at all, but these comics make me laugh mostly because it’s a reminder of how ridiculous SF can be sometimes. Check out the rest here and my favorites below!

Thanksgiving Themed Ice Cream Flavors

Buttered Mashed Potatoes & Gravy

When Elynn was up in the city recently, we stopped by the new Salt & Straw location in Hayes Valley for what seemed like a pretty soft opening for them. I could be happy with just about any flavor there, but know that they’re also a shop that likes to push the boundaries a little bit. While we were there, I noticed that they had a very special Thanksgiving menu up and while I love almost all Thanksgiving dishes, I didn’t know how well it would translate into ice cream. Would it actually taste good or would it just be a little bit weird? Being the stuffing fan that I am, I opted to try a sample. What’s the best way to describe it? Well, you know how some people enjoy sweet breakfasts or savory? It’s kind of like that. I didn’t mind the flavors and actually thought their rendition was pretty spot on, but at the end of the day, I wanted something that tasted like ice cream and went for my standard coffee – Salt & Straw style.

These flavors will be available until November 22nd so make sure you try them before time runs out! They’ll be available at both their locations in Pacific Heights and Hayes Valley Read more “Thanksgiving Themed Ice Cream Flavors”

In Things I Ate Yesterday

I typically try to photograph interesting (or really great looking) things that I eat, but I forgot to catch this one yesterday. Lucky for me, 7×7 happened to have it featured on their blog. Looking for a quick bite yesterday, we stopped in to Craftsman and Wolves where we picked up this muffin with an egg inside! Yesterday, was very egg filled themed. I don’t mind it.

This little gem is called The Rebel Within /  asiago, sausage, green onion, soft cooked farm egg and it’s pretty tasty.
