The Closet: September 2020

[RE/DONE Ribbed Tank] – $80

We don’t believe in no white after Labor Day so here are some favorite pieces included in this post. Also, talk about losing track of time here. It was only today that I realized, I hadn’t posted this and that we were way past due on it. I’ve combed through everything once more just to make sure that these pieces were still available. In the meantime, we’ll get started on October!

The Closet: August 2020

[Society6 Whimsical Sky Face Mask] – $16.99 – $13.59

This is quite possibly the bulkiest Closet post we’ve created in awhile! The good thing though is the pieces are all at the intersection of summer and fall. I’m also convinced that there’s something in here for everyone and at varying price points. Even a lot of the summer-y pieces can be transformed for fall wear. For example, the jumpsuit below? Pop a chunky sweater over it and you’ve got a look. We’ve been doing a lot of shopping lately ourselves so even though I’ve shared all of these here with you, I personally need to refrain from buying these myself. Enjoy!

[Abercrombie & Fitch Tie-Front Jumpsuit] – $79 – $47.40

Sunday Farmer’s Market

I hit the jackpot when I found my home in San Francisco! Having loved my spot in Capitol Hill back in Seattle, I wanted a neighborhood that would remind me of exactly that. You can’t be too picky in a place like SF though. Between high rent costs, expectations, and a long lists of needs and wants, something has got to give! I wouldn’t say that it’s identical to Capitol Hill, but we got pretty close. For the last two years, I’ve grown quite comfortable with my routine of my weekend coffee, a quick trip to the local grocery, picking up breakfast and sometimes flowers.

I’m not a regular at the farmer’s market, but I do like to stop by every now and then. And I’m not [The Mill’s] biggest fan, but I like the way they make my coffee. Never a toast enthusiast, myself, I only stop by when I’ve got guests in town because seeing an $8 avocado toast is an experience in itself.

Denim Jacket Revival

Denim Jacket – Gap / Top – Abercrombie & Fitch / Skirt – Brandy Melville / Bag – Madewell / Sneakers – Nike

The last time I had worn a denim jacket was when I was 11. I was shopping for back-to-school clothes with my mother at Macy’s right before the 6th grade and in my hands I had a denim jacket and a corduroy jacket. I couldn’t not have both and I figured that having two jackets would provide me with more flexibility. I was right. They were the best two jackets that I owned that year and then once I got to junior high, I said “see ya later!”

On an impromptu shopping trip with Winny in the Marina, we stopped into the Gap and I wondered if I could ever pull off another denim jacket. I stood in front of the mirror with two sizes trying them on for what felt like 25 minutes while Winnyy waited patiently. Did I want it to be fitted and snug or did I want it to be slightly bigger so that I could layer? The layered look won, obviously! The following week, I put this ‘fit together and loved how I could wear it for any day at work or just a casual weekend.

Five Favorite Things: Abercrombie & Fitch

Plaid Flannel Shirt$58 – $29

We’re doing things a little bit differently today! Normally, we would call this post “Five Favorite Pins,” but instead I’m changing it up because I want to write about something that’s quite important to me. All year, I have had to defend Abercrombie & Fitch to friends of mine. I would tell people that they’ve changed, their stores are no longer as fragrant as they used to be, their brand is labeled as obnoxiously across all of their tees, in some cases, you may not even see the moose! On top of that, you won’t be unhappy with their prices. On a couple of occasions this year, I’ve been in their stores and walked out a happy customer with basics that I never thought I’d be able to find there. So instead of just telling you this time around, I’m going to show you with 5 recent pieces from their website that I would purchase today (if I had the money!)

You should know though that they are having a massive sale because of Black Friday. You’re welcome!

Our Favorite Looks of 2016

Tank top – Abercrombie & Fitch / Chambray shirt – Madewell / Skirt – Brandy Melville

It’s way more fun to share your 12 favorite outfits from the year instead of the ones that just flopped, right?! We don’t always get it right, but luckily the shame of an outfit gone wrong usually only lasts a day. #blessed that my coworkers are always there to give me that immediate feedback. On the upside, I love the outfits that I’ve selected as my favorites for the year. We love that some of these outfits are ones that we’ve worn more than once and have recycled with other items from our closet to make them more versatile. And if there’s one thing that we appreciate more this year in these outfits than the ones we ended up hating – it’s that “less really is more.” Thanks Ma.

Let’s Get Shmandied!

screen-shot-2016-12-27-at-10-15-47-pm

This will be the first of many posts highlighting some of our trips from this year! I couldn’t wait to celebrate Mandi’s Bachelorette Party with her this past spring in beautiful Palm Springs! It was my first time there and it did not disappoint. It was everything I could’ve wanted in a weekend – sun, pool, drinks, and girl time. The weekend had a nice blend of activities and a little bit of something for everyone, but more importantly, everyone there just wanted to make sure that Mandi had the best last weekend before she was completely off the market forever, and this included heading to the liquor store and getting a little crazy!

Black and White and Pink

Top – Abercrombie / Pants – Urban Outfitters / Shoes – Vince Camuto

I love these pants for their “Wow!” factor. I remember walking around the office in them a couple of years ago when someone stopped in their tracks and said to me, “Whoa. Pants.” Like, hi – yes. I’m wearing them. I guess I should preface by saying that I don’t wear pants or jeans a lot to work so whenever I do, that’s a shocker in itself. This was the first time that I had put all these pieces together and I wasn’t sure that it would work out. Now looking back at it – I think the stripes from the shirt and the pants are a bit much, but the pants and the shoes are a good match. Sometimes we can’t always get it right. 🙂

We Is A 90’s Chick

Screen Shot 2016-08-15 at 9.05.47 PM

Cord Skirt – Brandy Melville / Top – Abercrombie & Fitch / Chambray Shirt – Madewell

When I first took this photo and put on this outfit, I remember thinking that this was SO 90’s. It’s not, really – it’s just cause I’m a little bit more frumpier looking and wearing a chambray shirt over an outfit that usually puts more put together. I actually liked down playing this though – or as my intern calls it “low-keying” it. I’m still trying to figure it out. Sometimes it gets pretty chilly in the office so a sweater, cover-up, or a blanket is necessary. Usually a long-sleeved shirt will do. I like this because of how casual it is; I can wear it to work, I can wear it running errands or even just a weekend out. This photo is kind of funny too because we NO longer go to this boba shop. RIP. There’s a new place in town and it’s called Teaspoon.

Cool For The Summer

Striped Top – Abercrombie & Fitch / Pants – Uniqlo / Black Heels – Vince Camuto / Sunglasses – Marc Jacobs

Summer in South Bay is just the best! This must be one of my favorite parts about living in the Bay Area. I just went on a shopping trip with my friend Kelly the other day and while we were both seeking things with color, I ended up taking the black and white route. I know what you’re thinking. What are you doing buying a top from Abercrombie & Fitch? I went into the store the other day because I had seen a dress on Jamie Chung from there that looked incred. After trying it on and realizing that bell sleeves were never going to work for me, I let that dream go. I did, however, still wanted to peruse since I was there anyways. This striped top with a criss-cross back was $10. What a steal! I remember when I was in middle school and was saving up my allowance to buy a $65 skirt from them. The brand, I’ve heard, has actually been making moves in a more positive direction. I’m not sure if it could ever replace the way I feel about Aritzia, but I’m willing to give them a shot.
