The Return of Space Girl

WHOA! Space Girl is back y’all! I know I promised to bring back this installment for winter quarter after posting my last one in December, but truth: winter quarter is difficult. With 90% of the days being gray and the fact that my photographer Veronica and I had opposite schedules, Space Girl just wasn’t possible. I am, however, excited to announce that we will be bringing it back slowly this spring quarter and incorporating it more into our weekly routines.

This shoot was shot by my dear friend Bree on a whim! Now, you’re probably scratching your heads wondering why this outfit is featured because a) it’s the most casual uniform that anyone could ever wear and b) because I don’t normally wear these things, but that’s what makes it so perfect. Believe it or not, I actually like casual wear. I grew up being a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl. I love the basics and being able to dress them up too.

There are plenty of style bloggers out there who love to wear items only once or enjoy wearing outrageous outfits around town that don’t make much sense, but that’s not really me. With this Space Girl post, I wanted to showcase to all of you a more relaxed style out of my closet. Now that we’ve got the “casual” out of the way though and the weather is picking up, you will be seeing some more of my favorite pieces featured!

Abercrombie and Hollister Are Raising the Temperature of Black Friday

Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister are bringing their A-game to Black Friday this year. Word on the street is that the brands have enlisted thousands of shirtless men to be present at both stores when they open at midnight across the country. To be honest, this makes me a little nervous. There are some crazed shoppers out there on Black Friday and shirtless men combined with shopping and high energy levels… I don’t know. Shirtless men roaming malls is already enough to catch anyone off guard.  I’d love to see how well this tactic works on shoppers tomorrow at midnight. For some reason, I just envision that scene from Austin Powers where the fembots’ heads start exploding because they can’t get enough of the international spy.

Best of luck to all you shoppers tomorrow!

Abercrombie & Fitch Urges The Situation to Stop Wearing Their Clothes

[Source]

You know you’ve reached a new low when Abercrombie & Fitch decides to offer you a lot of money [about six figures] to not wear their clothes because they’re afraid that you are going to give them a bad rep. And that is exactly what the retailer did when they approached Michael “The Situation” Sorrentino.

In a statement that they specifically titled a “Win Win Situation” (really stupid name,) the retailer addresses their concerns with the poor reflection on the brand when The Situation decides to wear their clothing.

“We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans,” the statement read.

While the statement was meant for The Situation, Abercrombie & Fitch would like to extend it to the rest of the cast members as well.

In my opinion, I think that the retailer should knock that chip off their shoulder and be a little less pretentious. How does that saying go again? There’s no such thing as bad publicity!

Now I’d like to end this post with a little throwback:

Last year, Mr. Sorrentino gave an interview to New York magazine where he said, “Abercrombie & Fitch, their most popular shirt, they told me, is ‘Fitchuation.’ I mean, where did they get that from? Obviously from myself.”

Abercrombie’s Scent Stench

Abercrombie & Fitch is recognizable for many of their qualities. You can easily spot one of their clothing items by seeing the small moose in the corner. You can tell the difference between one of their shirts and that of another retailer by the obnoxious ABERCROMBIE & FITCH smeared across the chest. It’s obvious that the retailer is suffering a bit right now.

Believe it or not, one of the reasons why consumers are so turned off by the brand is because of the toxic mixture of their perfumes and colognes. I suppose that’s not all surprising. It’s not that I never noticed it, but I never spent that much time in the store to let it bother me. I have to wonder, does it affect or bother the employees at all? They have to spend four to eight hours in the store inhaling the scents while folding clothes to the pounding techno/electro pop beats blaring throughout the store. Ideal work environments.

Last week, student group Teens Turning Green protested  the Abercrombie and Fitch flagship store located on 57th Street and Fifth Avenue to spread awareness to the public that the retailer was releasing toxic chemicals into our environment.
