Ariana Grande – “thank u, next” Music Video

The highly anticipated music video for “thank u, next” is officially out! I was a little behind and not sure when to expect it until I heard it was noon pt today. Just a little bit after my lunch break, I took a few minutes to watch. The music video pays homage to four of my favorite early 2000 films: “Bring it On (2000),” “Legally Blonde (2001),” “Mean Girls (2004),” and “13 Going on 30 (2004).” There are even more than a handful of guest cameos in the music video as well including one member of the “Kardashian” klan.

“thank u, next” has been a hit since it debuted and the music video is likely one that will be talked about all weekend long. I had watched the behind the scenes special yesterday evening before the release and almost wish I hadn’t because I had found it to be a bit anti-climatic. That being said, the song is still my favorite and will absolutely be on my list at the end of the year for being a top 50 song. Which Ariana character best resonates with you?

Ariana Grande Performs on the Ellen Show This Week

How much do we love her? After releasing her song, “thank u, next” 30 minutes before the premiere of Saturday Night Live last weekend, she went on the following week to give it its first performance on Ellen. I’ve never seen First Wives Club, but the performance didn’t disappoint. It’s impossible to not root for Ari after the year that she has had and we can’t wait to see what she does next with her upcoming album. Should we be buying tickets for her tour now?

“thank u, next” is the breakup anthem we always wanted, but never had until now. At first listen, it seems like a simple tune. You feel like you’re listening to her story about her breakup(s) but aren’t really sure where to take it from here. Is this a song you can sing along to? Can choreography be put to it? A second or third listen will tell you that there’s more to this story. Trust – I’ve listened to a lot of breakup songs. Your girl has a playlist of them and when I thought I was going through a heart wrenching breakup sometime in the 2000’s, I leaned on “I Hate This Part” by The Pussycat Dolls. I didn’t know better, but I also never had better.

Ari’s relationship with herself is her focus right now just like we’ve all said that a relationship with ourself is the most important. She just said it in a more profound way.

Ariana’s Tribute to Mac Miller

It didn’t take long for trolls to bombard Ariana’s Instagram after learning that Mac Miller had passed away from an overdose this week. The couple had broken up earlier this year with her alluding that it had something to do with his drug usage. She moved on to Pete Davidson and Mac Miller continued to support her wishing her happiness. It seemed like the two of them were both moving towards a positive direction until the news of his passing came up. People were quick to point fingers and blame Ariana, but that’s unfair. Then after the news came out, people blamed her again for not putting out a statement right away. Can we just let this girl grieve on her own terms? It doesn’t help that Ariana has to go through this and is also still recovering from her PTSD that arose after the Manchester incident at her concert. Yesterday, she shared this post. A black and white photo of Mac likely taken by her with her feet in view. Her comments are disabled, as no one needs to judge her for this, and there isn’t a caption because this photo says it all.

Is anyone already listening to “Sweetener?” I just pulled it up on Spotify and already I’m feeling like her first few songs are very different from her last albums especially early on in her career. I’m willing to give this a fair shot though! I’d be interested in hearing what everyone’s favorite songs are afterwards.

2018 Met Gala Red Carpet

Before I left the office tonight, my friend and coworker, Courtney, remarked that tonight’s Met Gala was the equivalent of a Super Bowl to anyone else. She wasn’t wrong! I put in the extra hours of work this weekend so that I could free up my Monday evening to work on crafting this post. Before I came home, I also went out for a glass of wine with a friend so that I could a) appreciate every look for the piece of art that is and b) to let my true opinions for every outfit shine through! Throughout the day in all my meetings, I was closely watching the coverage seeing bits and pieces here and there, but never spoiling it all for myself until I was able to digest it when I got home. I can’t imagine a better photograph to kick start this post.

This year’s 2018 exhibition was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”

Who’s ready for this album later this year?! The first time I heard this song, I wasn’t an immediate fan and then it just continued to grow on me as I discovered how sassy it was.
