Sleepover @ IKEA for the Night

For one night only, IKEA is letting you live out that scene from 500 Days of Summer on August 31, 2014. In a partnership with Airbnb, IKEA is letting the families of three winners stay overnight at their store in Tempe, Sydney. The store has decked out three promotional rooms for this event and while we don’t have any photographs, we know it’s something that most would be thrilled to have the chance at doing. The three themes? Rustic charm, inner city living and modern elegance. So how much does it cost to stay in one of these rooms? 12 Australian dollars.

“Airbnb gives people access to the most unique listings around the world from treehouses to yurts to villas, and now we’re adding Ikea to the list,” Eva Ross, Local Operations Lead at Airbnb Australia, said in a statement. “The experience is sure to thrill any guest.”

There’s one proviso in the fine print: “By entering, you agree to be part of an event that will be covered by the media,” it says. “Oh, and that you will be woken in the morning in a remarkable way. Nothing frightening — we promise!”

An Infinite Staircase

It’s been awhile since we’ve featured some pretty interesting art installations on Yow Yow! I came across this Infinite Staircase by David McCrackin and depending on the angle that you are  viewing it from and the presence of the clouds, the staircase will appear infinite. I can’t stop staring at these photographs. This piece entitled “Diminish and Ascend” can be found in Bondi, Australia.

Fireworks In Reverse

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=KoMAUezEKYI#!]

For New Year’s Eve this year, we ran as fast as we could to catch the fireworks in San Francisco. Unfortunately, all we got were the sounds and not the visuals! That’s okay though because this video above makes up for it. Filmmaker Julian Tay shot this video of the fireworks in Melbourne, Australia over New Year’s Eve, reversed it and put some pretty music behind it. How can you not love this?

Blue Trees

Australian artist Konstantin Dimopoulos has been painting the town in several cities by painting the trunks and limbs of trees using environmentally safe pigments. By working in only urban areas, Dimopoulos hopes to raise awareness for the 32 million acres of forests that are being cut down every year around the world.

Painted trees can currently be found in Melbourne, Vancouver, and Virginia. Next on the stop? Seattle!

Locals, keep your eyes peeled and let me know when you find one!

DJ Attempts To Set World Record By Spinning 7 Days Straight

Australian DJ, Smokin’ Joe Mekhael is attempting to set a new world record by spinning for seven days straight. The current record stands at 120 hrs and nine minutes. His seven hour goal equates to a 168-hour set. Yikes. The funny thing is he’s doing it all live via stream so you can track his survival over the course of the next few days if he makes it that far here. Apparently the DJ has requested no pharmaceutical assistance and is currently at 88 hours.

Godspeed.

Here is the official trailer for Martha Marcy May Marlene starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s younger sister Elizabeth Olsen. This film has been receiving at ton of buzz in the news lately for Olsen’s performance. I think I got some chills just from watching the trailer. In the film, Olsen plays Martha, a schizophrenic girl who has trouble trying to live a normal life after escaping from a cult. [Source]
