Happy 15th Anniversary Barsuk!

This weekend, Seattle’s legendary Barsuk Records celebrated their 15th anniversary and I am so sad that I had to miss it! When I was 16 years old and starting my first internship in the local music scene as a booking intern, my boss had first informed me of Barsuk. Every year after that until I got to college, I tried relentlessly to get an internship with the record company. I wanted so badly to work alongside with the people I grew up admiring – the ones that brought Death Cab For Cutie to their side and turned them into the band that they are today. I never did get that internship, but it was Barsuk’s mission and drive that stirred something up within me and had me continuing on with music through college.

Today is the last night of the celebration. For the past 3 days, Barsuk has been hosting shows at different venues all over the city featuring notable bands under Barsuk’s name including Phantogram, Ra Ra Riot, Rocky Votolato, Nada Surf and more. With tonight being the last, everyone is wondering whether or not Death Cab will show up for a surprise performance. Every show under the celebration has completely sold out, which only proves to you how strongly Seattle’s locals are behind the music scene and supporting Barsuk.

Barsuk – thank you for everything you’ve done for me. You’ve given me something to look forward to and now I get to witness your 15-year success. Here’s to another 15 years! Barsuk Records Celebrates 15 Years

When I was 16 years old and first learning about the Seattle music industry, it was my dream to someday work for a place like Sub Pop or Barsuk. The Seattle music scene is one of the most wondrous parts about this city so when we are celebrating a company or a band’s achievement, it is pretty big news. This year, Barsuk is celebrating their 15th anniversary and to do so they’re throwing a pretty fantastic party.

Tickets to these shows are on sale now for $15

Additionally: here are some facts that you should know about Barsuk’s celebration –

· Barsuk is putting on four once-in-a-lifetime concerts November 7-10 in Seattle, WA.

· Bands slated to perform include Nada Surf (playing Let Go), Mates of State, The Long Winters (playing When I Pretend To Fall), David Bazan, Chris Walla, Minor Alps, Menomena, Maps and Atlases, Yellow Ostrich, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter (special anniversary performance with original lineup playing Reckless Burning), Rocky Votolato, Laura Gibson, and two unannounced special guests.

Ben Gibbard To Release Solo Album

Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard will release his first solo album (under his actual name this time) on October 16, 2012. The album entitled “Former Lives” will be a full-length solo LP by Barsuk. Gibbard has previously released another album as well, however, under the moniker ¡All-TIme Quarterback!

I could not be more excited to hear this album. Death Cab for Cutie was practically the soundtrack to my teenage years and with each year, his work continues to amaze me. This, I’m sure, will be no exception.
