Bombay Bicycle Club Announce New Album

Before I graduated from college, there was a song that I probably listened to everyday. It was what I wanted to hear when I woke up. It was what I wanted to listen to right before I went to bed and as I was winding down in my apartment. It was what I listened to when I was blogging for Yow Yow! with just my desk lamp on and just this song playing on repeat. When you’re a teenager, you associate yourself with songs for a period of time in your life and in a way you think it defines you and you get really emo and dramatic about it. It seems to happen into adulthood too. “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep” was THAT song for me. It was a good mood, a bad mood, and even a so-so mood, but I never got tired of listening to it. This song aside, the entire album is a must-listen-to. I was thrilled to hear (or rather see in my inbox) that the band was releasing a new album early next year entitled “So Long See You Tomorrow” on February 4th, 2014. This is the band’s 4th album in five years so clearly  they have been busy.

Track Listing:

1) Overdone
2) It’s Alright Now
3) Carry Me
4) Home By Now
5) Whenever Wherever
6) Luna
7) Eyes Off You
8) Feel
9) Come To
10) So Long, See You Tomorrow

Below is their new music video for their single off of the new album called “Carry Me.” A stop motion. Our favorite.

A Lullaby For You

When I was a music-obsessed teenager, music was the soundtrack to my entire life. If I had to walk somewhere, take the bus, do my homework, eat a meal, fall asleep, etc. my Apple earbuds were almost always in my ears. I can’t tell you why that ever stopped or when I decided to stop having music be the backing to everything, but I would assume it was because it became a distraction for me. It cut me off from the outside world and prevented me from having interactions in real life. While I was listening to my iPod, I could’ve been having meaningful conversations! I could’ve learned something.

On my way back from San Francisco with Riley, he was telling me that he pretty much listens to the music on his iPhone all the time. This isn’t out of the ordinary. Everyone on Seattle U’s campus does it too, but I found it interesting since I hadn’t done it in years. Last week, I tried it out again and even though it was once normal territory for me, it wasn’t last Monday. I felt awkward. I got tangled up in my headphones and I couldn’t figure out a place to put my old iPod while I listened to it so I just held it on my walk. We all listen to music for such different reasons, but I was so interested in learning about the ways my own friends utilized it in their lives. Samantha actually listens to it whiles she sleeps or before she sleeps and that is sort of the whole reason why I’m writing this post.

I listen to Bombay Bicycle Club’s “How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep?” every single day. I don’t listen to it as I fall asleep, but I feel so much more at peace if I listen to it right before I go to bed. The music video for it above is awfully sweet as well so I hope you enjoy it and I hope you have a lovely Monday.

Bombay Bicycle Club – How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep

Study break! This song, along with the Pumpkin Spice Latte that Wes made for me is motivating me to study for my last final and prepare for my presentation tomorrow. Oh winter break… you’re so close! If you’re looking for new music, just get this entire album. It’s the best.

The 10 Things I Learned Over Thanksgiving Break

  1. For a few days, don’t count the calories. Don’t run to the scale to check your weight or run to the toilet. Just keep eating. Eat when you feel like it. Eat at your own moderation. It’s the holidays, okay?! I give you permission to nomz – seriously – you can’t let that food go to waste.
  2. Enjoy the time with your family. Tell them you love them and laugh when they tell you the silliest jokes at breakfast time regarding your mother’s closet space when you feel like rolling your eyes a little. Really – you’re just rolling your eyes out of love.
  3. I did not miss a thing out of not going to Black Friday.
  4. Bombay Bicycle Club album, “A Different Kind of Fix” is absolutely beautiful.
  5. I need to do a better job at seeing my friends. I thought I would be able to get around to everyone this time and I didn’t and I feel awful, but for those that I did get to spend time with – I am so grateful.
  6. Have an adventure. It’s totally worth it.
  7. Every time the holidays come around, I always find posts from other blogs that are similarly titled, “The (insert number here) types of people you will run into from high school.” It’s always silly things like “the one that won’t leave you alone,” “the creeper that is still the creeper, “the one that looks nothing like they did in high school.” I don’t come across these types of people, but I don’t think anyone will argue with me when I say that run-ins with people from your past can potentially be awkward. Anyone ever see Just Friends, Garden State or will see the new Charlize Theron movie Young Adult? Last night, I found myself at a party with a ton of people from my high school and you know what? It wasn’t weird. It was actually kind of refreshing and exciting even though I wish I had looked a lot better than I did. This kind of event happens once a year for me and maybe it’s a little bit uncomfortable at first, but for the most part – they are all great people. I’ve found that I care about what they are up to now and I like hearing about the news they have in their life. It’s nice to share stories and see how everyone is doing after a few years. So even though I thought I was going to secretly hate it – I kind of loved it and I’m glad to hear that everyone’s doing well.
  8. I basically have one more week of school and then I’m on break. Well, I’m just the luckiest girl right now basically.
  9. I don’t know how to make an inspiration board.
  10. I am choosing to give away a somewhat sentimental gift to a white elephant exchange for my workplace’s Christmas party. I hope whoever gets it likes it, but it doesn’t top my vintage Mandy Moore cassette tape I gave last year.
