Thank You One Reel!

I am thrilled to announce that I will be covering this year’s Bumbershoot music festival in Seattle over Labor Day Weekend – thanks in large part to One Reel and the Seattle-based magazine that I have been writing for on and off over the past few years. I can imagine that obtaining a press pass for some people is something that happens often in certain industries, but this is my first time and it means a lot more to me than many would understand. Having worked within the local Seattle music scene since I was a teenager, I often waited around for the time when I would be able to receive the perks that I was used to giving out myself through the companies I have worked with.

Not only am I excited to see some great acts, but I feel privileged to have the opportunity that I’ve always kind of dreamed of. Bumbershoot is a music festival that I respect and admire. It has been the music festival that I have been attending for almost five years now and it means a lot to me to support a festival like this. This year especially, the festival is highlighting some of the best local acts that Seattle has to offer and I am excited just  to be able to catch the performances that I want to see without having to sacrifice a day or two out of it.

I sound like the biggest fan girl ever right now, but I don’t really care. I am PUMPED to be going all three days, which is a first for me – for any music festival and I can’t wait to share it with all of you!

A Look Back on Seattle U Shows

This past school year, I have had the wonderful privilege of working with some incredible musicians and bands at Seattle University. Within just one school year, they are already making headlines, putting out new albums, headlining tours, and have found themselves on the lineups of music festivals.

I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with these eight very talented musicians and bands:

If there are any musicians and bands that you should be following from Seattle, it is them.

– My dearest friend Liz has relocated to the state of Colorado, but has been keeping busy with a string of shows. Please go out and support her because she is a wonderful and talented little lady. [Source]

Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground will be releasing their album “Introducing” on July 26, 2011 from Suburban Home Records. The band will host CD release shows in both Portland and Seattle, June 11th and 12th respectively. [Source]

– Almost immediately after my show with He Is We ended, the band hit the road to head East to begin their tour with The Rocket Summer. The band will be headlining their first tour beginning mid-June. Did I also mention that they will be performing at Bonnaroo 6/9 – 6/10? [Source]

– Two of my performers Robbie Christmas and Matt Bekker will actually be performing a show together tomorrow at the Crocodile Cafe! The show is 21+. My friend Matt Bekker also recently became a part of the Rocket Music Entertainment Group family, which is home to Elton John, James Blunt, Lily Allen, and Oh Land.

Champagne Champagne will be releasing a new album this summer and will be performing at the 2011 Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot Music Festival, and Doe Bay Fest!

– I am so excited to be working with Campfire OK for my last show of the year. This year, the band was voted by City Arts Magazine as one of the best new bands of 2011 and this summer, you will be able to catch the rustic-sounding band at both Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot and Doe Bay Fest! I would say that this band is going to be in a completely different place in the next year, but I know that things for them are moving fast and that the change will most likely occur within the next few months. Their CD “Strange Like We Are”  is definitely one of my favorites from the year. Expect to see them on the bill for various music festivals next year because that’s probably where they will be.

Bumbershoot 2011 News

I know this may seem like a silly thing to say, but not blogging for a couple of weeks consistently makes it incredibly difficult to get started again.

With that note, Bumbershoot 2011 is making some BIG changes this year to how things will be run at their festival over Labor Day Weekend. Last year was the first year that I did not attend in the past four years and I still won’t be able to determine if I will attending this summer until I see the lineup.

First off, Bumbershoot is partnering with The Stranger this year and will allow tickets to be sent by mail, printed at home, or held at will call. Prices are pretty much the same, but I’d be happier if they were free like they were back in 1971.

The mainstage performances will now be held at the Key Arena instead of at Memorial Stadium, which means it will hold less people and will no longer be outdoors. The music festival will also revert back to their old ticketing methods after last year’s changes caused their attendance to fall when they offered special tickets that allowed attendees to see all of the performers except for headliners.

EMP Sound Off! Now accepting applications

It’s that time again! EMP is beginning their round up for the best underage Seattle bands. For many, this could be the chance of a lifetime in starting off their musical career. It doesn’t matter what genre you specialize in whether it be hip hop, electronic, pop, etc – you just have to be under 21. Prizes include a spot on the Bumbershoot 2011 lineup, a live on-air performance on 107.7 THE END, epiphone gear and much much more.

This battle of the bands has done wonders for many local bands in the past. Previous winners include Dyme Def, The Lonely Forest now signed with Chris Walla’s label, Dyno Jamz, and Brite Futures formerly known as Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head.
