50 States of Lego

Sometimes I just enjoy writing posts about people who make things with a lot of time on their hands and this is actually one of those posts. Here are our 50 states in Lego form. Above is California while below is Washington!

Line We Love: Brandy Melville

It isn’t often that I let another store into my shopping roster, but when Sheila provided with a recommendation, I took it to heart. Last weekend, I stopped into Brandy Melville and instantly found myself swooning over their pieces. The shop was filled with knitted sweaters, the softest cotton, and endless hues of neutral colors. Why weren’t these pieces already in my closet?! I walked away with a knitted sweater – just to test out how much I would love it – and found myself wearing it twice this week. Sure, I have favorites. I’m expecting that my next trip to Brandy Melville will result in me breaking even more of my wallet. I was surprised to learn that most of the pieces (excluding pants) were one size fits all. In my head, I wondered how that was even possible, but then i realized how genius that idea was. I’m a huge fan of oversized clothing and while I know that doesn’t do much for my height, I always vote for comfort. If there’s any store here that embodies the “California” girl, this would probably be it. I’m looking forward to sharing more of my Brandy Melville purchases on Yow Yow!

Tomorrow

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qswU_On3xeI]

I know that this song refers to Southern California, but there weren’t that many great songs about Northern California. Plus – this song is a throwback that we love!

Readers, thank you so much for being so patient with me. It’s amazing that I’ve kept Yow Yow! alive for this month as I’ve been preparing for what is one of the biggest life change I’ve ever had to make. Writing for Yow Yow! has always been therapeutic for me so naturally when moving got to be too stressful, I would fall back on writing content for this blog and that is one of the reasons why not too much has changed here and why my friends and family have become annoyed with the lack of productivity on my move.

I get it now. Moving is one of the worst things to ever go through in this world. It’s the biggest hassle, the biggest inconvenience, everything you can think of, but I believe my friends when they tell me that it is also so good for you and I’m excited for what awaits me at Point B!

First City Festival

It’s always exciting to learn when new festivals are popping up and that seems to be happening a lot these days! I remember when I witnessed an incredible music festival in San Diego shut down when I had plans to attend it a second year. Budget cuts are the worst, but they out of everyone’s control especially to those who enjoy these music festivals the most. With that said, California is gaining another festivals after losing one several years back.

The First City Festival held in Monterey, California has an incredible lineup for its first year out including: Passion Pit, Beach House, Toro y Moi, Washed Out, Capital Cities, Electric Guest, Tennis, and many more. Want to learn more about the artists? Free People has provided a great playlist to get you all caught up in time for the big show in August.

Rubio’s Fish Tacos!

My California friends think I am a nut, but every time I am there I have to make two stops. One at In N’ Out for obvious reasons and the other at Rubio’s because I am obsessed with their fish tacos. Now, I realize Rubio’s is a popular chain in California, but honestly – I just can’t get that here in Seattle and right now it is all I want.

BHLDN Traveling Trunk Show

photo cred | Brides

A trend that I am loving with retail stores is when they take their goods out on the road with them. Urban Outfitters had their pop-up shop. Warby Parker is spending weeks in different cities interacting with the locals and meeting their fans. Now, BHLDN is introducing their traveling trunk show to celebrate the third location of their newest store in California. They will hit up 6 Anthropologie stores on their travels (including Seattle!) and bringing with them their gowns for brides-to-be. BHLDN gowns are gorgeous, classic, and vintage, but a girl’s wedding day is going to be one of the most important days of her life so selecting one without trying it on can be a little nerve-wracking.

Southern California

While perusing one of my favorite blogs, Holiday Matinee, I came across this photo series by a friend of the blogger’s – Angella d’Avignon. The shots were all taken from Southern California and makes me miss this area so much  especially since I used to visit frequently when I was younger. Here are just a few shots, but check out the photographer’s 50 favorites here.

I suppose it’s a little strange to wake up in the morning craving a burger, but you just can’t help the way you feel sometimes. If I could, I would venture out of Seattle for the day to California for an Umami Burger! I’ve actually never had one, but I’ve heard a lot about it – can anyone share their views?

It’s disappointing cause what I’m really going to have for lunch is just a plain turkey sandwich. Oh the life of a college student…

California Bans Tanning Bed Use For Those Under 18

It is now officially illegal for someone under the age of 18 to tan in a tanning bed in the state of California. The sunshine state is also the first state to make this a new law. Originally the law was that teenagers under the age of 14 were not allowed to use tanning beds, but if 15-17 year olds wanted to tan than they would have to receive parental consent. Well, California decided to make things a little bit easier today by just calling it a day and making it illegal for those under 18.

Is anyone else besides me surprised that California is the first state to do this?
