Girl Crush: Connie Wang

Every so often, your Yow Yow! blogger acquires a little bit of a girl crush on the people working in this industry. Sometimes they come and go. Other times, they last more than a few years and with regards to Connie Wang, this crush has been a lengthy one. If you’ve been reading Yow Yow! for quite some time, then you have seen me mention Connie on this blog before. When I first came across her, she was writing for Chictopia before leaving her gig there and becoming Senior Global Editor at my favorite fashion blog Refinery29 where she has been at for four years.

Like the other women we have featured on Yow Yow! this year for our series: Women Who Are Making It, Connie is an independent, creative spirit who exudes beauty, confidence, and a whole lot of sass. As a college freshman watching this video by Connie, I remember having that “AHA!” moment in my dorm room and feeling inspired by her words of wisdom and advice.

Flash forward four years later, her own company – Refinery29 – is featuring her in a video yet again to have her explain her passion and how she views fashion today. You can watch it here!

20 Favorite Posts!

It is a tedious and challenging task having to go through all of your posts in one year to weed out your favorites. Something… I don’t really want to ever do it again. BUT it’s important that I share with you my favorite 20. Over the course of this year, some posts have made it to the top [or the front page of WordPress] that I really don’t think are all that deserving of that title. I like all my posts of course, but there are some that I believe, have a larger message. There are some that I put a lot of time into working on that receive no attention at all. Yet, the whole world cares more about Dora the Explorer, Megan Fox, and the new Tinkerbell. So I’m allowing you all to see my favorite posts again resurfaced! These are for the most part in no order – I don’t have time to truly give them a number ranking.

20. New Directions

Why: If you don’t know where to look, you will never find it. Believe it or not, men care about their appearances just as much as women. Maybe they won’t admit, but that’s okay. I’m not asking you to. I wanted to highlight some well made websites and blogs  for men that focus on dress and lifestyle. It’s okay to want to look good. 🙂

19. Life as a Seattlelite

Why: One of my best friends Jeanette reminded me this past summer that it is always important to explore where you are from. I’ve lived in and around Seattle my entire life and I can safely say that no experience is the same. People from Seattle don’t know this, but there is so much more  than downtown and the Space Needle and Seattle Center. There are various neighborhoods – each a part of the city, but with its own individual personality. That day, we explored three prominent locations in the Seattle area: Pike Place Market, Gasworks, and the Fremont Troll.

Connie is a graduate.

It’s that time. Graduation. Everyone closes the book on one chapter and skips on to the next. It’s interesting to see… where everyone will end up in the years down the line.

Congratulations my lovely babies at Inglemoor, the seniors at Seattle University.. I don’t really know that many of you, and graduate students. I don’t know you at all. But still! The “Real World” is out there (I hate using that cliche) and life is really what you make of it.

Greg and I were talking tonight about how he has had a great freshman year because he didn’t really have a plan and just did things as they came to him or what he wanted. I said I did do the things I wanted, but I had my goals and my plan was structured. Different paths, but looking back on this year, we are content.

So one of my favorite bloggers, Connie from Chictopia just graduated and she posted up this video talking about life after graduation and fashion and the likes, so I’m gonna post this here.
