Yow Yow’s Top 10 Posts of 2017

It isn’t hard to push out a post when I need to. They can range from anything to a YouTube video to a song on Spotify or a quote against a printed background in an interesting typeface on Pinterest. While I like to think that varying lengths of posts make Yow Yow! really interesting, it’s those essays that I spend the most time on that I’m proud of. 2017 was a year of changes not only for me personally, but for Yow Yow! There was a lot happening in the world that I wanted to share an opinion about and I’ll admit, I don’t always get it right. I’ve received some criticism over the last year for some of the pieces that I’ve written, which challenged me, but I also received positive feedback as well. Overall, it felt like a step in the right direction. As much as I love writing about food, music, and fashion, I can’t let Yow Yow! only be about that. And the reason why is just because that’s not what I’m only all about. Thank you all for letting me stretch my creativity with this and for continuing to stick with us.

Beauty for Breakfast Pt. 33

When I received my Alison Brod Marketing + Communications package with this Clinique Gelato Cream in it, I thought it would be like any other body cream or lotion. I wrote it off because I had owned so many products like it before. Then one morning, I decided that I couldn’t avoid the adorable millennial pink packaging any more. The texture was smooth, creamy, and I honestly couldn’t get enough of it. The jar itself was so big and the cream was filled to the very top that I knew it would last me forever. Even after I took one swipe of it, it felt like I had barely used any and by then I had used it on both my legs and my arms. The scent is also incredibly yummy. I’ve never had anything quite like it and now I’m obsessed. I feel like all of my girlfriends need this at home. Buy your own here!

Beauty for Breakfast Pt. 29

When I included my new Clinique moisturizing lotion in my Instagram story, it didn’t take long for some of my friends to raise their hand to tell me they were using the same product. I think most can agree that the facial lotion you use on a day to day basis is a product that is near and dear to your heart. You’re often not shopping for a different product to use in place of it because once you’ve found the one, there’s just no reason to test drive any others. I had been using Olay since high school, but when I had the opportunity to try out Clinique’s, I had to take my chance on it. It felt so easy to use this product. It kept my skin moisturized all day and it felt like it really took ahold of my makeup and foundation making it the best primer. Note: we don’t use primer. My one tip is that you should use just what you need. For me, that’s two little pumps. I have found that using this in excess can sometimes be a little bit annoying and leaves you more greasy than moisturized so it’s best to test it out a few times on yourself to see what works best!

Clinique vs. Crayola Chubby Sticks

When I first laid eyes on this Crayola Chubby Stick Lip Balm set, I wished I had discovered these before Christmas instead of after New Years! How cute are these?! I feel like every woman would want to own this set and if every shade isn’t for you (when is it ever?) then at least just keep it on display. I love the shade of Melon and for those days when you’re trying to keep it minimal – I’d select Fuzzy Wuzzy. I’m also strangely attracted to Mango Tango. It may not be an everyday look, but how fun would it be to bring this out with you for a Friday or Saturday night?

This latest collaboration between Cinique and Crayola is pure genius. The entire collection of Chubby Sticks are out to the public already and being sold for $17 each. However, you don’t want to wait until the last minute – this collection is only available through February so make sure you collect your favorites ASAP!

Beauty for Breakfast Returns

screen-shot-2017-01-01-at-5-43-19-pm

We had announced that we were taking a break from Beauty for Breakfast on Yow Yow! not too long ago, but we’re taking it back! I’ve been doing a lot of work on my Instagram lately both with my feed and stories, but we’ve missed writing more detailed reviews on Yow Yow! which we can’t always do on Instagram. In 2016, I’ve had a lot of fun playing with and experimenting with different beauty products and I think that sort of began when we decided to adopt a “facial for every season” regime.

Our favorite so far? Every kind of mask, but especially the sheet ones that make us look like Kevin Bacon in Hollow Man. I was just coming back from a busy fall travel season for my job and my face felt like it been wrecked. When I travel, I can’t always bring all of the products that I would use on any normal day and rely more heavily than I would like on hotel products. We all know that that’s sort of a gamble! Waiting for me at the office when I returned was this amazing package from Alison Brod Marketing + Communications filled with all of the goodies you see above. It’s been a couple of months and we’re still trucking through them, but loving every second of it. There’s a mixture of items in this bunch including, lipstick, lotion, fragrance, masks, moisturizer, etc. and it’s been keeping us busy. To revive Beauty for Breakfast posts, we’ll be including reviews shortly on all of the items we’ve been trying.

Thank you so much to Alison Brod M + C for helping us get our beauty routine back on track!
