Mother + Daughter

I am loving this adorable photo project called “Mother + Daughter” created by Carra Sykes who not only dresses like her mother in photographs, but takes on the same pose as her too!

Sykes was looking for a way to lift her spirits while struggling with a long job hunt and was struck by her mom’s penchant for occasionally raiding her Goodwill donation bags to wear her old clothes. While the photos are not meant to be perfectly identical in composition or form, Sykes says the project has become an interesting study of their relationship and physical traits.

A Rainbow of Shoes and Legs

photo cred | Colassal

Usually I find even mannequins to be a little bit creepy, but this piece by John Breed is whimsically entrancing. I’m not sure if it’s the leg and shoes combination or the pretty pastels – maybe it is both! The piece was designed as a collaboration with German shoe salon Breuninger and was created using 145 multicolored shoes and legs.

A Collection Part 33

Veronica told me just the other day that I was overdue for A Collection post. In looking through my archives, I see that it has only been TWO months. This is actually probably a new record for us. Like many “A Collection” posts, there is no theme. I wish I had something to say about how I’m feeling or why I chose the photographs that I did, but I choose them because at the time it is what is most pleasing to me!

Enjoy!

Urban Vertical Garden

photo cred | Colassal

As much as I am in love with the modern type housing that I have seen lately, I don’t see too many of them having backyards. Growing up, everyone I knew had a backyard and gardens were all too frequent, but these days space is limited. In the city, it’s rare to have those two things. I am in awe of how amazing this urban vertical garden is made completely out of recycled bottles.

Portugal’s Umbrella Installation

Seattle could use an installation like this  for our city to protect our locals from  the occasional drizzle. This umbrella installation is currently set up in Portugal with no word of who this designer might be. It does, however, make for some pretty photographs! These were all shot by Patricia Almeida.

If I Could Have Any Super Power…

The response that I have heard from most is usually flying. Have any of you seen the trailer for Chronicle yet? Kevin introduced it to me a couple of months ago, but now the marketing team for the film has released a new promo video in which they have built three RC planes that look like humans. They then flew them all over New York City!

Interactive Business Card

I was recently considering making a business card for myself, but like my Society 6 situation, I wanted to wait until I was fully confident before taking the plunge. Or I was waiting for some sort of crucial deadline, which was the exact situation I had with Society 6. I’ve also been debating whether I have the right tools to make my own business cards and have been researching printers similar to this slitters cutters creasers machine which could do all the hard work for me. I know I could easily just make the cards online and send them off to be printed, but I guess the control freak in me wanted to be able to oversee the whole process. By making them myself, I also feel I will be able to be more creative and won’t just have to follow a set format as most business cards do. Not many people realize it, but business cards can be really creative and fun! Rather than just being a slip of paper, I want mine to be different and therefore more memorable. I came across a business card today on Colossal that blew my mind, but was so absolutely perfect for the career: a yoga practitioner.
I agree most people or businesses want to make a statement with their business cards as it also tends to establish the first impression. And I also acknowledge the fact that not everyone has enough time or creative ideas to make that work. However, these business persons or firms can take help of printing press that provide tailored service. It would prove more lucrative if the required items are delivered on the same day. One way it can be done is by looking for online options, searching something like same day printing london (replacing it with the place your business is based in). Other way would be to simply comb through the offline stores nearby your area that can provide you same day delivery, without compromising the quality.

Whatever you choose, make sure it resonates with the idea of your business.
