A Look Back at the Met Gala

2019 – Emma Roberts – Giambattista Valli

I was always the only one in my group of friends that looked forward to and knew the significance of the first Monday in May. For anyone in the fashion industry, this was THE event. I didn’t even belong to the industry, but yet I felt the need to cover this every year since Yow Yow! began in 2009. Due to COVID-19, there is no Met Gala this year, but it didn’t feel right to not acknowledge it in some way shape or form. Often times, after the event I don’t even revisit the Met Gala posts I’ve written. In lieu of this year’s event, I’m selecting my favorite 12 looks from 2017-2019.

2020 Oscars After Parties

Hailey Bieber in Versace

I might be in a minority camp here, but I honestly love the after party looks way more than the main event itself. Why, do you ask? Have you seen the looks that show up after the award show ends for the night? Every celebrity comes out and it’s a much bigger pool when you include those that aren’t nominated. Even those that were at the actual award show will come donning a second look. Plus, because the after party isn’t necessarily televised everything is just a little bit more sheer and with a little less fabric. These looks are fun, sexy, and ones that we all wish we could pull off.

Trust me when I tell you that everyone was here and we wanted to capture everything in this post, but because of the volume it was slowing down the loading of creating this.

Critics’ Choice Awards Red Carpet 2019

Charlize Theron in Givenchy

Where was the red carpet special today on E?! I waited around all afternoon for it to come and when it didn’t, I was forced to watch “Little Italy” on Amazon Prime instead. My assumption was that E! covered all red carpets for major award shows, but was this not as important for some reason? Does having it air on CW have anything to do with it? Whatever the reason is, I didn’t want to miss an opportunity to highlight some stunning looks this evening. I have less favorites in this batch than from the Golden Globes, but enough to have five main favorites that I’ll be sharing on my Instagram in a bit!

If You Need A Laugh…Riverdale Edition

I’ll never forget the day I discovered Riverdale on Netflix and finished the whole season in one weekend. It’s weird to say I grew up with Dylan and Cole Sprouse because of them in Big Daddy or The Suite Life… because they are actually younger than me. I really enjoy Cole in Riverdale though and I shipped him and Lili Reinhart almost immediately.

Vogue’s 24 Hours with Cole Sprouse

Somewhere along the way, Vogue got really good at making video content. I first started taking notice when they did 73 questions with different celebrities around their homes, but now I’m starting to venture into other material like this one that claims it’s 24 hours with Cole Sprouse. It’s not really because how can 24 hours get crammed into nearly two and a half minutes? Yet, I watched it anyways! I’m loving these pieces because I think Vogue has always had a reputation of being structured – maybe that’s Anna Wintour, maybe it’s not. They’ve been considered pretty serious, but these bite-sized pieces are incredibly fun and cheeky. It’s completely changing the way I perceived Vogue growing up and that. is. huge.

We also just love Cole Sprouse. I pretty much adored him since episode one of Riverdale when I immediately began shipping him and Betty. Imagine my shock when I found out they were dating IRL. Complete amazement.

2018 Met Gala Red Carpet

Amal Clooney in Richard Quinn with George by her side

Before I left the office tonight, my friend and coworker, Courtney, remarked that tonight’s Met Gala was the equivalent of a Super Bowl to anyone else. She wasn’t wrong! I put in the extra hours of work this weekend so that I could free up my Monday evening to work on crafting this post. Before I came home, I also went out for a glass of wine with a friend so that I could a) appreciate every look for the piece of art that is and b) to let my true opinions for every outfit shine through! Throughout the day in all my meetings, I was closely watching the coverage seeing bits and pieces here and there, but never spoiling it all for myself until I was able to digest it when I got home. I can’t imagine a better photograph to kick start this post.

This year’s 2018 exhibition was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”

A Collection Part 49

We don’t always time these posts with the end of the year, but it feels good, doesn’t it? Even as I search for photos it’s nice to be able to put something together that wraps up the end of the year and my feelings towards a new year. The start of this post doesn’t look anything like the end of this post, which I think is pretty different for a change. You can definitely tell that I’m feeling some sort of way by the end of this. What is it exactly? That I’m holding on to millennial pink? That I’ve got a love inanimate objects? Those things, but maybe a couple of other things that aren’t so obvious.

Celebrities Get Schooled

Cole and Dylan Sprouse of the Disney Series The Suite Life of Zach and Cody and The Suite Life On Deck have decided to attend New York University next fall.

“Cole is sticking to entertainment and will be majoring in Television and Film Production with a minor in Drama and Dylan plans to venture into the Fine Arts with a minor in Economics!

They are 18?! Why do they still seem so young to me. If you did not watch those shows on the Disney Channel, they were also the little boys that shared the role of Julian “Frankenstein” in Big Daddy. And they’re all grown up now.

I think it’s really great that child actors that are pretty much set for life still decide to pursue higher education. It shows that they care about it and that they can juggle these two lives that don’t mesh at all. I can’t imagine how difficult that must be. Cole and Dylan aren’t the first though, many actors have done it and succeeded. For example, James Franco has attended three or four different schools and got the degrees.

I was having this conversation with my best friend recently and I posed the question: “If you had enough money to support yourself for the rest of your life, would you still attend college?” We both said yes. What would you say?

*Didn’t Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen go to NYU also? Did they ever finish?

And Wikipedia has informed me that they left partway through…
