Gearing Up For Pride [Sneaker Edition]

Due to COVID-19, Pride events aren’t being held like they normally would be next month. That doesn’t mean that Pride Month isn’t being celebrated. Nike, Converse, and adidas have all released their pride-themed sneakers ahead of the month and we are big fans. I especially love this one by adidas (above) that has parts of the sneaker itself in a designated color. If you’re wanting that all-over look though, Converse (bottom right) is the look for you. And for the minimalist – we’ve got Nike (bottom left.)

For details on all three pairs and where and when to buy, visit the sources below.

Sneaker Roundup

When it comes to buying new sneakers, I lean towards versatility. That means it will typically be in monochrome colors like classic white or all grey or all black. For the longest time, you used to read articles about how sneakers were meant for active and casual wear. 2020 is spelling out something quite different. For the last few seasons, all I’ve been seeing sneakers paired with are dresses, but short and long, casual and dressed up. I’ve even seen a few pairs of Yeezy slides while out and about too, which look insanely comfortable. At this point, I’m convinced you can pair sneakers with just about any type of dress and no one would say a thing.

If that’s the case, then that means we’re good on these forever and there are no rules. In the last week, Hypebeast and Hypebae have shared two new styles that have caught my eye from both Converse and adidas respectively. Above is the adidas Originals’ Falcon Sneaker in a blush pink with beautiful gold accents. The shoe itself is made with both mesh and suede paneling. Starting today, they are available [here.]

We’ve seen it in swimsuit trends recently; this throwback to more retro styles so it’s no surprise that this has made its way to sneakers. I’m loving the two toned colors on Converse’s Chuck 70 Renew Hi and Ox. The Hi will be sold for $95 USD and the Ox at $90 USD. Which pair are you leaning more towards?

Converse’s “Triple Black”

We’ve got the only shoes you need for the rest of the year. Why buy one pair when you can have two? Converse’s “Triple Black” Chuck Taylor Pack is being released tomorrow and while this is very exciting news… a part of me is wondering why there isn’t a 3rd style getting involved as part of the “triple!” The two styles come in both ’70 Hi and Ox and it is completely covered in a perfect matte black.

The Ox and Hi will retail for $48 USD and $78 USD respectively. Select retailers like HBX will stock the pack on July 21.

Wow. You need both.

For Sub Pop

Top – Sub Pop / Denim + Cap – Urban Outfitters / Sneakers – Converse

Holy smokes! Look how bebe I look in this photo above. I am late 20’s going on 14 here; the funny thing is though is that this is exactly how I dressed when I was 14 so it’s almost a little bit eerie to be looking at this. Is it weird to say that one of my favorite places is the Sea-Tac Airport? Sometimes I ask my parents to drop me off a little bit earlier than I need for my flight so that I can spend my time there shopping and having one last meal before I take off. Sub Pop Records happens to have a merch store there which I highly recommend everyone checking out because you can get – well – records, so many tees, and other fun gifts. I basically make a purchase every time I drop in and have two tees and a sweatshirt from them. I like this tee a lot for its simplicity, but the material fits like a boys’ tee so it might not be the most comfortable tee to wear. I paired this with denim, Converse, and a backwards baseball cap because I wanted to dress not like myself AT ALL THIS DAY.

Hot Hot Summer

Hat – Nordstrom / Top – Urban Outfitters / Shorts – Aritiza / Sneakers – Converse

When it’s summer in the Bay Area, walk breaks from work are absolutely necessary. Even with so few pieces, we were melting in this heat. I don’t particularly love this look at all, but I was in love with this tank top when I discovered it one day after popping into Urban Outfitters. As a coincidence though, this shade of pink and black were my two favorite colors in middle school so this is somewhat nostalgic. I don’t actually think that the hat and the Converse sneakers are a good match, but we tried!

Outfit Throwback

Cardigan – Oak + Fort / Sneakers – Converse

I went through a phase in high school / college where I was building up a pretty serious collection of cardigans. My everyday uniform really just consisted of a dress, a cardigan, and my favorite pair of Keds. It was simple, but it was all that I really needed. This photo is kind of funny to me because 25-year old me in this picture looks like I’m back in high school again and we don’t entirely hate it. It’s nice to see when some things don’t change.

Nowhere Everywhere

Tank top – Aritzia / Black cardigan – Urban Outfitters / Sneakers – Converse

I wish I could remember where these denim shorts came from, but I can’t! I think I’ve had them for years, but don’t even remember when and where I purchased them. I was feeling like I wanted to dress like I was going to the beach or a BBQ this one day at work so this is how I came to this getup. We took this photo in front of a Mortuary’s garage which is very depressing, but I love the shadows that were cast on the photograph and all of the lines.

Proud Owner:

Converse

After a couple of months disciplining myself from any shopping trips, I finally caved! And for good reason – cause it was my birthday after all! Last weekend, Kevin and I ventured up to Union Square for a little “light” shopping. I had never been to the Converse store before and wasn’t planning on buying anything because I didn’t think I needed a new pair of sneakers. During a phase in high school I thought that I HAD to have a pair of purple vans and then quickly got over that phase. But while walking through the Converse store, my eyes landed on this pair of Converse. It was nice because it didn’t come in some outrageous bright color and it was a subtle black and white – something that I would wear every day. It had to be mine. And so it was. You can’t tell from this photo, but the black top where my toes are is made out of leather! It only took me 25 years, but I’m now a proud owner of a pair of Converse!

I’m also wearing this with a pair of jeggings that I purchased from Uniqlo. Never in my life did I think I would own a pair of these, but once I slipped these on, I knew that it was a match made in heaven. I would probably wear these every day or every other day if it were socially acceptable. I realize that decision is solely up to me and that no one really cares anyways.
