Chihuly Garden and Glass

screen-shot-2017-01-05-at-3-36-28-pm

It took me four years to finally visit the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum. It’s one of the most touristy things I could have done in my hometown and we took a bunch of photos that have all been done before, but I didn’t really care. While I was visiting home this past summer, I took my dad on a special Daddy-Daughter date and the anticipation and hype were HIGH. I was pleasantly surprised that my dad enjoyed it just as much as I did and even got a kick when HE was trying to advise me on how to take better photos.

My sentiments are that the place is beautiful. The sculptures are incredible pieces of art and you get a whole venue full of them as opposed to when you visit random places throughout the country and only get to view one. If you have an interest to go visit the museum, you should do it. If your interest is 5/10, just look at the tagged photos on Instagram to get the same experience. The tickets are kind of pricey as museums go and because my dad is still a WA state citizen he got a discount. I didn’t. -_-

Not to get all mushy gushy, but the best part of this was actually doing this with my dad! Many of you may not know this, but my dad is an artist too so this is something that we really appreciated doing together. I’m looking forward to our next outing together where I drag him along to a KEXP radio station tour the next time I’m home!

One Year Ago Today…

I was definitely on my winter break because the amount of content I posted would not have been possible during finals week or even a regular week. Random fact – this was not exactly a year ago, but give or take a few days, the new Facebook layout was revealed and now that same thing is happening to us once again with the Timeline.

Well, back to what happened a year ago…

Mayor Mike McGinn announced that the Dale Chihuly Museum and the KEXP headquarters will be moving into the Seattle Center.

– We learned about the Seattle music scene from 12 local bands in the short series $5 Cover.

– I made up my winter quarter television schedule. RIP Hellcats.

– The Kardashians got serious for the holidays.

E! never launched this show, thank goodness!

– We learned that a school’s library is a nice alternative for your own bed.

Debate on the Dale Chihuly Museum

There’s a lot of talk going on right now about whether or not we want to have the new Dale Chihuly Museum settled in right next to the Space Needle. Within the next couple of weeks, there will be some meetings and  discussions which I believe members of the Seattle community are invited to participate in. I found this picture courtesy of The Slog, which is supposed to be an “image of the proposal.” I’m not sure if it’s going to still be where the old Fun Forest was, but either way I think it looks great and I’d really like to see this in person if we decide to go through with it.

Possible Chihuly Museum at Seattle Center

The Howard Wright family, owners of the Space Needle, have made plans to create a 44,500 sq ft exhibition hall to showcase Seattle artist Dale Chihuly. This hall is set to take over the old location of the Fun Forest. This space would not only include Chihuly’s art showcase, but also a retail shop and a cafe. Altogether the interior space would be 21,500 sq feet.

“By comparison, the Henry Art Gallery has about 14,000 square feet of galleries, the Frye about 12,000 square feet.)”
