In the News…

***** Hey readers! Brace yourself – it was a big news day!

The UK’s Daily Mail published a photo along with a headline naming the wrong Olsen twin. For most of their early lives (Ages 0-16,) I believed they were identical because they were always dressed alike, but these days I can tell the two of them apart within seconds. You don’t have to see it in their faces to tell who is who, but you will see it in the way that they are dressed. Need some help telling the fashion icons apart? Check out Fashionista for their guide here.

Seattle’s favorite local writer Dan Savage is getting a reality show on MTV. The show will document his travels as he speaks to colleges across the country about sex. Savage is known for his sex column and also for the “It Gets Better” campaign that began last year.

It Gets Better

Seattle columnist Dan Savage recently started the It Gets Better campaign to send a message to those who are LGBQT youth. They are videos that offer support and kindness. They spread the general message that no matter what situation you are in right now, it will get better. Many celebrities have contributed to the campaign as well as non-celebrities – people that just want to let others know that people are there for them.

Here is a very touching message from Tim Gunn and below a message from Dan Savage about how to get involved.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GGAgtq_rQc&feature=player_embedded]

“If you’re gay or lesbian or bi or trans and you’ve ever read about a kid like Billy Lucas and thought, “Fuck, I wish I could’ve told him that it gets better,” this is your chance. We can’t help Billy, but there are lots of other Billys out there—other despairing LGBT kids who are being bullied and harassed, kids who don’t think they have a future—and we can help them.

They need to know that it gets better. Submit a video. Give them hope.”

Today was a very sad day in Seattle as we received news of the deaths of two college students from Western Washington University and the University of Washington. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of your families and friends.

Out on the Town: 2/13

Lonely Valentiners:

You don’t have to just jump online to sites like pornv.xxx. Why? Well, have I got the event for you…

Dan Savage, famous columnist, of The Stranger is an expert on love. This Valentine’s Day, we won’t be celebrating it though. If you are single, a divorcee, or have just gotten out of a nasty breakup, Dan wants you to truck on down to Neumos to vent about this relationship and completely get OVER it, with his help of course. Or, if you don’t feel like being around anyone on the day of love, you could simply visit a site like www.sextoyinsider.com and create some entertainment and pleasure of your own. It’s a common scenario anyway but even more popular when it comes to Valentine’s day. After all, no one knows how to satisfy you better than yourself anyway so why not just do it yourself? It’s great fun! Especially with content from www.sexm.xxx to look forward to afterwards.

“Wedding rings, china, sex toys: bring your memento to Neumos on Saturday, February 13, tell your sad story to the cheering mob-they’ll be cheering for you!-and then I will personally destroy your memento for you live onstage in a heart-mending ritual that will help you heal and move past your heartbreak. You will love again!”

As a bonus, by coming to the Valentine’s Day bash, you will receive a a Cupcake Royale Deathcake! If you don’t go home with a date after this event, at least you have something better 🙂

Doors are at 8. Mingle until the show at 9:30. $6 Advance Tickets and $8 at the door.

Savage Love

Dan Savage is known for his racy sex columnist on the “Slog” blog produced by Seattle’s The Stranger. He talks about everything from dating advice to how to enjoy twink cock, nothing is off the table! It’s a wonder where Dan gets his inspiration to write about such racy scenes. Perhaps Dan is inspired by adult sex sites, such as young sexer, to which you can look at more info about here. Whether this is his inspiration or not, he’s certainly done well for himself. In fact, his “Savage Love” column is so popular, HBO is trying to get him his own show and they have begun shooting the pilot today. I doubt anyone is even thinking about this, but what come to mind is the kind of potential this creates for Seattle and even The Stranger

Apparently, if everything works out, it will become the next “Sex and the City.”

“The show will “focus on current events and cultural trends with sex as the filter.” So it could focus on the impact of porn from sites such as nu-bay.com and many others, have on society.

“I’m hoping to bring a new kind of conversation to TV about sex–an honest conversation, one that’s informed without being (too) wonky, funny without being (too) cruel, sexy without being (too) cheesy. Basically, my sex-advice column–but on the teevee!” Savage wrote on his blog, the Slog.”
