Our favorite characters “Ellie” and “Jimmy” got together this past weekend! Let’s be real – their “generation” of Degrassi was the absolute best. It’s nice to see that the two of them are still friends. They were probably one of the few people in the series that never got together, but really should have.

Before he was Drake, he was Jimmy Brooks. I’ve said it from the beginning – Jimmy was always one of my favorite characters in Degrassi and while he’s talented as a musician (obviously,) he was also extremely talented at acting. Over the years and eight seasons, his character went through life-changing moments – one that left him in a wheel chair from a school shooting – and seeing his story unravel as he learned to cope with his situation was inspiring for young adults who watched the show. Drake got his start from the series and now TeenNick is deciding to host a special of his classic episodes this Friday, October 11th starting at 10PM EST.

Drake is having a moment on Yow Yow! this month, but not-so-secretly we’ve been fans of his since the Degrassi days. He’s probably the only rapper in the industry right now who I never get tired of. I’m very much looking forward to his album dropping on Tuesday and can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks of it.

Last night Drake performed his new single “Too Much” for the first time on Jimmy Fallon. I haven’t been keeping up much on Drake news so this was the first time that I was hearing about this collaboration, but I absolutely love Sampha and the two of them together. I think one of the main reasons why I’m a fan of Drake’s at all probably stemmed from his time on Degrassi. Anyone who says that one of their favorite characters wasn’t Jimmy is lying to ya!

As we all know, Degrassi can sometimes be just a little over the top with their dramatic episodes. Can we expect anything less with a tagline that is, “It Goes There?” No, we can’t. And even with all of its ridiculousness, we still manage to be hooked. I’ve been watching for years and still can’t get enough of the series. One fan recently decided to take it upon themselves to write out every single issue that has been covered in the series. Yikes. I can’t imagine how long that must have taken, but I’ve seen the list – and it’s on point! These kids have gone through a slew of issues and problems and that makes me appreciate my teenage years so much more. Check out the full list here.
When Degrassi: The Next Generation aired, I did not have TeenNick. Now that I do have TeenNick, I am forced to watch an array of characters that I just don’t understand. Why is Claire dating a guy who is about to become her new stepbrother? That’s not really normal, is it? How could Alli Bhandari back stab her best friend by making out with said step-brother? Where did Declan go ie) the only character that matters? There are so many characters on the show these days that I easily become lost in their story lines.
That’s why I am so glad that Thought Catalog’s recent post, “What Your Favorite Degrassi: The Next Generation Character Says About You,” is bringing us back to the BEST generation of Degrassi characters. It’s the same one that includes Drake – before he was called that, that one girl from The Vampire Diaries, and that one girl in the reboot of 90210. Yes, this generation spawned some success stories!
My favorite character was Ellie Nash and according to this article…”You believe moving to New York City will fix everything.”
My response: Not quite, but not that far off either.

It’s a strange part to like about a show, but every time I watch an episode of Degrassi I am anticipating that last freeze frame at the end of the half hour. So much intensity. So much drama and for kids that are only in middle school or high school! This compilation by Jeff Rubin is a little silly, but secretly I bet all Degrassi fans are loving it right now.
We’ll never forget where you started.
Watching endless episodes of Degrassi really makes me wish I could say “sorry” with a Canadian accent.
