Taco Bell Take Out

Top – Everlane / Skort and Coat – Aritzia

Would you believe that 2017 was the year that I had my first taste of Taco Bell?! We were celebrating our CEO’s birthday and what he wanted was a ton of Taco Bell tacos delivered to us. Not one to turn down food, I sampled the Soft Taco Supreme (ground beef) and found joy. For as long as I have grown up in the North West, I’ve been loyal to Taco Time. I still am to this day, but if Taco Time isn’t here, am I wrong for trying to find an alternative? I think not. I feel blessed that there was a Taco Bell located just around the corner from our office which made it a great option when I was in a pinch for lunch.

Was this Taco Bell bag prop intentional? You bet it was. Was my actual lunch in there? Two soft taco supremes and a side of chips and nacho cheese, jealous?

Golden Gate Views

Tee – Everlane / Sweater + Scarf  – Oak + Fort / Pants – Uniqlo / Hat – Nordstrom

You guys, no matter what anyone ever says, I will never get tired of the Golden Gate Bridge. Even if you’re visiting me and this is the most touristy thing you want to do, I’ll pretend like I’m not excited, but internally it’s all I hope you’ll ask to do. The Golden Gate Bridge is the equivalent of Pike Place Market to me. It never gets old and it continues to be more beautiful with every visit. Even if it’s a nice day, I will never go close to the water unprepared without many layers. I actually topped this outfit with my denim jacket (not pictured!) but had it taken off for photos for fear that it would be too clunky.

The Closet: June 2018

[Zara Long Lace Dress] – $99.90  – $49.99

Classics with a twist. You’ll notice that many of the staples in this post are a play on a classic “white dress,” “swimsuit,” “slides,” etc. For as long as I can remember, it has always been so easy for me to gravitate towards basic pieces. After all, they’re the ones that you can pair with anything. They’re timeless and they won’t go out of style because the trend will die out. I love these, but I also want to wear pieces that stand out in their own way. I love the lace detail in the Zara dress above and the safety pin clutch. Both sandals are white and black respectively, but have an added detail that make them different from each other – straps vs. a block heel. Previous posts have showed me venturing more into color, but interestingly enough this palette keeps us close to the black and white.

Wrapped

Top – Everlane / Pants – Uniqlo / Scarf – Aritzia / Boots – J. Crew / Purse – Vince Camuto

Is it just me or does anyone else ever feel uncomfortably warm when they are out shopping? It’s the reason why shopping in the winter is so tough for me because when you’re already getting in and out of your clothes, it’s an added hassle to have to carry around your jacket. This blanket scarf from Aritzia is no stranger to Yow Yow! and you’ve likely been seeing this for years on the blog. The other alternative is that you likely own one yourself because they’ve made this in a variety of colors and prints and you’re convinced that you need to have at least more than one. On a weekend shopping trip in Hayes Valley, I braved the cold temperatures by only having this scarf as my outer layer and you know what? It was enough! I decided to wrap it in a new way by just draping it over my shoulders and with the way that my purse was on me, it created a nice little shawl and kept it all together. The same thing could have been done with a safety pin too, but I preferred the purse since it looks more natural.

As usual, I’m a fan of wearing all-black outfits, but I love the pops of burgundy and navy with this diamond blanket scarf. It’s a classic from Aritzia and if you haven’t snagged yourself one yet, make sure to keep your eyes peeled around fall for what I anticipate will be a new collection of these!

Striped

Tee – Everlane / Skort – Aritzia

Never have I ever…had a look like this. I typically don’t take OOTD photos without smiling mostly because I don’t feel like I can pull it off or that people won’t take me seriously. This is one of the first that has really stuck with me though. When I first bought this Everlane tee, I was wearing it once a week with many different outfits. This was my favorite. As much as I love just wearing only black and white, it’s nice to have a pop of color every once in awhile. 2017 was the year that I finally discovered and purchased Everlane pieces. Like many in San Francisco, I’m obsessed with the brand. I think they do such a good job with their communications and messaging, but they aim to present high quality and affordable basics to the masses. Since this top purchase, I added two more pieces that I can interchange within my wardrobe on a weekly basis and have no problem with. They’ve really converted me into a believer this year.

Our Favorite Looks of 2017

Duster – Azalea / Tee – Abercrombie & Fitch / Pants – Uniqlo / Boots – J. Crew

Sure, these are my 12 favorites look of the year, but they also overlap with 12 of my favorite backdrops from the year! If you’re someone who documents your OOTD’s, then you know that these two things kind of go hand in hand. This year, I experienced a major shift in my outfits and that is mostly due to a location change. Living in South Bay was a dream, but it meant that I was living in this sort of alternate reality where it was summertime every single day. The last four years of that are something that I would never give back, but now that I’m living in San Francisco, I’m glad that I get to dress for true weather. It reminds me of my days in Seattle.

In 2017, I embraced a very casual look and I pushed the boundaries of day to night wear. I showed love to some of my favorite accessories (bandana, baseball cap, choker) and revived some old favorites (Keds!) We didn’t find ourselves immersed in any crazy trends… but I did find some pieces worn by other people on Instagram that I went out and bought myself! It’s not really the same thing, you guys. It’s almost… worse.

Everlane’s New York Store

Last week, San Francisco’s Everlane opened up their first permanent New York store in the Nolita neighborhood. Here’s what you’ll find: puffers, denim, millennial pink, and the ultimate minimalist style that defines 2017. Earlier this year, I discovered that my office was within walking distance of the Everlane Lab (not quite as large as this store) but even still, it was a dangerous routine and habit that I kept up for weeks.

I’ve known about Everlane since it first began back in 2011, but it wasn’t until this year that I bought my first piece – a striped long sleeved tee that I wore every week for a month. The pieces are simple, but functional. Most importantly, they are affordable. They’re the basics that you need, but want to have in every color.

There’s a piece about Everlane though that separates it from being just a normal retailer. In San Francisco, many consider it to be its own startup because of how tech is immersed into it. What that means is that shopping at this Everlane location won’t be like a normal shopping experience. It’s true, many retail stores are looking at innovative, immersive ways to attract customers and give them an unforgettable shopping experience. Streaming businesses like Atmosphere (https://atmosphere.tv/) offer in-store digital experiences that store owners can implement as a way of merging the digital with the physical. At Everlane, you’ll have a chance to learn how one of their tees are made via headphones in the store and have shopping made easier and more convenient with your credit cards on file from your previous purchases.

For many early adopters of Everlane, the assumption was that it would always be an online retailer. Why the change to a physical store? Founder Michael Preysman explains:

“The original idea was that we would never do stores,” he admitted. “But when you’re in the online-only world, you can’t bring people into your space and your brand the same way you can with a physical store, where it feels transparent, open, and honest. So we wanted to bring the brand to life and be part of people’s lives in a more meaningful way.”

“People do want to try things on,” Preysman said. “Having them come in and touch the product and talk to employees makes such a difference. We started out with T-shirts, which are really easy to buy online, but denim in particular is really hard to shop for [without trying it on]. So this is perfect timing.”

You can find Everlane at 28 Prince Street.

Everlane’s New Line of Puffers

There’s nothing I love more than a good puffer jacket. They are the ultimate cozy item and what I like the most is that they keep all of the warmth in while still being extremely lightweight. Everlane just announced that they were releasing their new line of puffer jackets similar to this coat from Lily Lulu and since I happened to be in Everlane just yesterday, I decided to try one out and walked around the store like I kind of already owned it. The closest thing I have to a puffer jacket is probably my Patagonia, but it’s not as puffy as I would have liked. The Everlane jacket brings that and provides extra coverage with the mock neck top.

Each jacket is filled with Primaloft, a military-tested insulation that is is both water-resistant and breathable. This material fills the lightweight, short and long styles which are made from a soft nylon.

Coming in four colors, the puffer jacket is available in navy, black, burgundy and “rose.” It ranges in price starting at $90 – $170. The jacket is available to everyone starting tomorrow!

October Favorites

Favorite TV Show – Riverdale

I’ve been hearing about this series for awhile now, but never saw myself as the kind of person that could binge watch a show. It is only in its second season though so you may have though “well, better to start now than when it is in its 4th, right?” When Kevin was in town, he set up my Netflix for me so that I could watch directly from my TV and that was life changing. After he left, this was the first show I turned on and within just a few days, I had finished the entire first season. I love a good CW series and didn’t find myself resonating too strongly with Dynasty (a new series from this past fall.) The show reminds me a little bit of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars, but not complex enough that I get confused by all the story lines. I’m also particularly excited by this romance between Betty and Jughead. I’m familiar with the comics, but not the storyline from the comics so it’s almost like beginning this series with a fresh start!

Favorite Album – Odesza – A Moment Apart

In the years that they’ve been around, I had never gotten a chance to see Odesza live up until just last weekend! Obviously, I’m super biased towards any musician or band that comes out of Seattle, but there’s something special to see someone charge $5-8 for a ticket all the way up until now when they’ve sold out three nights in a city that isn’t their hometown and I’m forced to buy it on Stubhub. I’ve been listening to this album weekly since it came out and was even more excited when I found out I’d be seeing them in concert at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley – a first for me! There’s not one song that I don’t like. Listen to it from start to finish.

Everlane Pima Micro Rib Long-Sleeve Crew – $30

I was really lucky when I had the chance to buy this tee in stores last weekend because now it’s totally waitlisted. Bummer! I have a couple of simple black long-sleeve tees already at home, but it feels as though you can never have enough. There are so many fabrics to buy them in, fits, some can be a turtleneck. This one, in particular, I knew I didn’t have and needed to have. It’s ribbed material and completely fitted so when you wear it tucked into pants, it’s very chic and since it’s already in black, naturally slimming. Since I purchased it, I’ve already worn it three times and I’m glad I got it before having to wait until March. At just $30 a pop, I wish I would’ve known sooner so that I could buy this in all the colors.

Favorite Product – Malin + Goetz Detox Face Mask – $44

My collection of masks at home are growing! While I love trying new products, I started to have this inkling that the products I was receiving or being gifted with weren’t always the ones that were best for my skin. Were they for more general skin types? For those with dry or sensitive skin? I was using all different kinds, but I wasn’t sure if anything was actually happening so I decided to a store I trusted to find something that fit what I was looking for. I landed on this Malin + Goetz mask, which has been my favorite. I use it twice a week and for only five minutes, which means I don’t have to wait around for a long time for it to do its thing. As soon as it hits your skin, it begins to start foaming so make sure you put on a thick layer and get every inch of your skin for it to be in full effect. It’s still early and I’m not sure if I can pin point any differences yet, but my hope (or what I was promised) is that my skin will start to look brighter and break out less.
