2017 MTV VMAs Red Carpet

Demi Lovato in Zuhair Murad

Watching the pre-show to this event made me feel so old! I didn’t recognize half of these acts and boybands. Who is everyone? The good part of that though means that this post won’t be as long, but we’ll still be sure to include our favorite looks of those… that are relevant to my time period. For some reason, I wasn’t able to watch the event as it was airing on the east coast so I’m currently watching this as we type and I had to stay off of Twitter for three hours to not be biased by anything I might read. My bff Tommy tells me it wasn’t great and that he stopped watching before it ended. What did everyone else think about the show though?

Fifth Harmony, Who?

There was no question at all that Camila wasn’t going to come out strong upon leaving Fifth Harmony. If there was a question, it was going to be how quickly she could rise to the potential she always had as a solo artist. And now we know. I’ve been obsessed with “Love Incredible” since it came out and even though it was more Cashmere Cat’s song than hers, I still wondered why it wasn’t more of a chart topper. I didn’t care for the song she did with Pitbull or “Bad Things” or “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” but “Crying in the Club” is such a bop. It makes the Selena Gomez track that was released one day before look like child’s play. What’s great about the music video for “Crying in the Club” is that it also previews “I Have Questions” – a new song that she’ll be performing for the first time at the Billboard Music Awards. I feel for Fifth Harmony, I really do, but this was inevitable. Camila was just born to be a star in her own right and now she gets to do that.

Camila Cabello – Love Incredible ft. Cashmere Cat

Fifth Harmony? I don’t know them.
For real though, we’ve only been listening to this one song all day long.

Fifth Harmony’s First Performance as a Foursome

The long awaited performance from Fifth Harmony since the departure of Camila finally happened! And you know what? It wasn’t as rocky as everyone anticipated it to be. On the song “Work From Home,” Camila had the first verse, but in this new arrangement, the ladies kicked things off together and then handed it over to Lauren. It’s a bummer that the split had to happen, but there wasn’t anyone that didn’t see this coming. Now Camila can go on to do her thing and finally Lauren can get into the spotlight a little bit more. She totally deserves it.

And Then There Were Four…

Wow, it’s a little bit strange to see the group without Camila isn’t it? Do you think the group will still continue calling themselves Fifth Harmony? Fourth Harmony doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, but changing the name now means sort of changing their entire brand. They sort of did themselves a disservice by naming themselves this in the first place, but I’m sure they didn’t anticipate that one member would leave them. Or maybe they did! As a fan of the group, I think I saw this coming from their X Factor days.

Performance of the Day

I can’t believe I’m still listening to this song. I don’t love Fifth Harmony all that much and sometimes with all the drama that I read about them, I think that they are on the verge of breaking up, but while they’re still together, we can enjoy their singles, right?

I really like this toned down version of “Work From Home.” They seem so relaxed and we finally get to HEAR Lauren! Her chorus in the actual song gets so overshadowed so it’s nice to see her get some more attention in this performance.
