A Collection Part 21

Slowing down your computers…one image at a time. I was planning on saving this post until next year, but it’s been 3 months since the last collection! I didn’t think it would be fair. Also, I’m pretty sure that these pictures sum up my last fall quarter perfectly. Enjoy!

Florence + the Machine – Cosmic Love

Whenever I am in my intense study mode, I make sure to log off of my blog, Facebook, and email. I minimize my main browser window with at least ten tabs open and I switch my iTunes library to play only my “Study Music” playlist. It is a playlist that includes an array of artists including Death Cab for Cutie, John Mayer, and Sara Bareilles. I had to force myself to make this playlist last year because when I was listening to music while studying, I used to have my library on random and if I didn’t like a song I would have to keep pressing “next” until I did find one I liked. As a way to eliminate wasted time, I made a playlist full of songs that I knew I already liked and that were essentially more “soft” than say…a Girl Talk album so that I could at least focus.

Last night’s weather conditions left me a little more distracted than usual. I diverted from the playlist and discovered KEXP’s YouTube account which has 1200+ videos of in-studio performances from both local and mainstream bands and artists. Once I discovered Florence + the Machine’s “Cosmic Love,” I HAD to scroll through all of them. Thank you KEXP for doing what you do.

KEXP is a radio station owned by the University of Washington. Earlier this year, they were in competition for the old Fun Forest location to be their headquarters instead of Dale Chiluy’s new glass museum.

Florence of Florence + the Machine wants to wear YOUR design

Florence Welch is in need of a dress to wear to her show at Terminal 5 in New York so she is asking for aspiring fashion designers to design her a fantastic dress for this event! You can also apply if you’re already an established designer as well. The contest is hosted by Florence + the Machine and Lucky Magazine. When this songstress hits the stage she chooses wisely in her clothing decisions by picking out some of her best finds from second hand stores. If you’re going to take part in this contest though, you better make sure that you have done your research on what Florence prefers to wear. Submissions will be judged by Florence herself, her stylist Aldene Johnson and Lucky Magazine’s Creative Director Andrea Linett.

Here’s what you could win:

The winning design will be made into Florence’s stage outfit by Aldene Johnson. The winner will receive $500 cash, transportation to New York, and 2 nights’ accommodation at the Soho House NY to see Florence + the Machine perform at Terminal 5. The winner will also meet Florence and the band backstage and receive a signed copy of their new album, Lungs.

LuckyMag.com will run a full feature on the winning designer along with images of Florence wearing the outfit. The winning designer will also be featured on Florence’s website and Facebook page.

The People’s Choice winner (top vote-getter) will receive a special edition jewel box designed by Florence and Faye Sawyer. This jewel box will contain the band’s new album Lungs, and an envelope with hand-drawn artwork by Florence containing a personal handwritten letter.

The top 10 runners-up will each receive a signed copy of Florence + the Machine’s new album, Lungs.
The top 5 ‘judges choice’ designers, will be mentioned on Luckymag.com.

2010 MTV Video Music Awards

  • Lady Gaga won eight awards. She basically swept the whole show and wore a gown made of meat. Nice.
  • The carpet was white – naturally everyone decided to be boring and actually wear black and white or something dark.
  • Florence + the Machine put on an AMAZING performance of “Dog Days Are Over.”
  • Kanye West tried to have Taylor Swift sing a song he wrote for her prior to the show. She declined and instead performed a song for Kanye “forgiving” him called “Innocent.”

I didn’t watch the show, but this is what I had gathered.

This dress was designed by Franc Fernandez.
