The Closet: July 2020

[Free People Lou Jean Babydoll Dress] – $128

With just a few more weeks of summer left (can you believe it?!) it’s tough to know what to shop for. Do we continue to buy summer wear and hope for clearance or do we begin prepping for fall? San Francisco summers make it hard to decipher. In this week alone, I found myself purchasing a swimsuit that I may not use this season and a half-zip long sleeved sweater. It’s clear that we are also still trying to figure this out. This month’s post teeters on both seasons if you’re like us and can’t make up your mind. For once, it also has a hearty mix of accessories along with it!

Holiday Party Wear 2018

For Love and Lemons Marquee Maxi Dress – $270

Every year, holiday party season always comes up so fast! I’m excited this year to have a true holiday party with my current company and the opportunity to dress up. As soon as I discovered the date, I was off to the races. There are actually so many options this holiday season that I’m swooning over, but the trouble with every year is that I have in my mind what I already want. The hard part of that is that it often times is hard to find where that exists. Since I hold onto that dream of a dress for so long, I often don’t find it and find myself stressing last minute.

This year’s party will be on a Friday – a first for me! It’s also unfortunately the first year where Mandi and I won’t be getting ready together. I’ll be using my new favorite startup Glamsquad for hair and makeup though which I can’t say enough good things about. Lastly, I’ve got a couple of ideas in mind for what I want to wear, but I’m not quite ready to share that yet. What I do know is that I want to stay away from lace if I can and sleeves because we did that last year. If things don’t work out for me, at least I’ve got a post to fall back on.

To get into the spirit of creating this post, I just looked at last years post and am surprised at how much my tastes have changed in the last year. Since my party is earlier, I wanted to start this post early. We’re also going to release it earlier than any other year prior. Enjoy!

Wedding Wear 2016

Talulah Moxon Dress – $175

It seems as though we always have trouble shopping when we’re looking for the thing that we actually need! I’ll admit, I probably should have started looking for a dress for Gelesia’s wedding sooner than last weekend, but maybe if I had done that, then I wouldn’t have found the perfect dress. It’s all in the timing, isn’t it? Shopping proved to be a little bit more difficult this time around. In the past I’ve been someone’s plus 1 or I was too young to want to put a ton of effort into what I’d wear, but when one of your favorite girls in your life gets married, you need the best of the best. I found myself wracking my brain for a dress that fit the location of the wedding and the personality and style of my friend, the bride. What’s even more challenging? She has her own fashion line! The pressure was on. We’re not going to share the dress that we bought right now, but I promise there will be pictures later and we’re extremely happy about it. Now that I’ve made this shopping trip, I’ve got a pretty good idea of all the dresses that I would love to see my own friends wear to their friends’ weddings this season and here are our favorites.

Valentine’s Day Wants

There’s one guy friend every year that comes to me – sweat forming on his forehead and completely overwhelmed with the pressures of having to buy his girl a Valentine’s Day present. You would think that by your 20’s you would’ve nailed this already. Wrong. It’s okay though, I don’t mind helping out my boys because of course, we know this holiday like the back of our hand. As a girl myself and a girl that loves gifts, when I put myself into this situation as the receiver, it seems fairly easy. However, I recognize that some girls just aren’t like me and might be expecting more so the only way to really write this gift guide is just to share all the things that I would want! Don’t worry – I’ll include some variety so hopefully one of these things will land you in good graces.

For Love And Lemons x Free People

Daisy Longlin Underwire – $128

When I think about my 20’s, I think about how I care a lot about things that I never used to waste two seconds thinking about when I was in highschool or when I was just a lowly emo teenager. As a 20-year old, I care a lot about… paying my student loans. Random tidbit, today I checked on my credit score and I felt ecstatic about it! This is definitely something that wasn’t even on my radar even when I was in college. I care a lot about how I’m spending my paychecks – ie) how much I’m spending on a meal during the weekends, if I really absolutely NEED to have that Rebecca Minkoff bag (I didn’t!) and how I decorate my home etc. One chunk of this area that I care about in my 20’s though is dressing smarter. When I was younger, I lived in Forever21, but in the long run those pieces would deteriorate. I was all about the basics instead of quality and quality goes beyond just your usual staples, they also extend out to your delicates. (That was a really long-winded intro, but we finally got there y’all!) For Love and Lemons is a brand that I’ve been keeping my eye on a lot lately and a lot of their intimates are being sold through Free People which is even more exciting. Now, intimates get this rap for being something that you have to wear to please another person. I say, buy them because you “love yourself” and because they just make you feel good! Here are just a few of my favorite picks currently available through Free People.

How to Ring in 2015 Right

Yumi Kim Beaded Elsa Dress – $300

TBH, we could’ve started this post a lot sooner, but lately I’ve been less than a planner than I’ve ever been in my life. You would think that I would have already planned out what I was going to do for New Years Eve already because normally that would’ve been decided weeks ago, but in fact, it’s still up in the air. It’s actually between seeing a DJ set in SF by Mayer Hawthorne or … you know…going to Vegas. So there’s that. Whatever the case – wherever I end up – having an outfit to wear on New Year’s Eve is something that I don’t skimp on. It’s actually one of my favorite holidays to dress up for (even though I don’t care about New Year’s Eve) because it’s the one time where you can look very sparkly and girly and what girl doesn’t love doing that for a night? So sorry for the late notice on this. If you see something you like just bite the bullet and purchase immediately so that it makes it in time for your big event!

Warning: We’ve got feels for the little black dress ahead!
