I always seem to have the most time to blog around the holidays, but it just so happens that I like being able to post for “A Collection” during this time too. We last did this post about 6 months ago so all of today’s photos are ones that I’ve been collecting and saving since then. Here’s hoping that these photographs tickle you, inspire you, or spark some kind of emotion within you the same way they do to us. Happy New Year! We’re excited for you 2017.
We haven’t heard from Frank Ocean in awhile and the last time we did talk about him on Yow Yow! or our Twitter, it was because we wanted him to finish delivering on his album that he promised us. When I read this letter and I think about my thoughts towards that… it seems kind of selfish because this response that he wrote about Orlando is much more powerful and makes the need for his album feel small and significant. I’ve always admired Frank not only for his music, but because of how I felt his music spoke to us. His songs are still some of my favorites and this letter just solidifies how impactful his voice can be irl in addition to his lyrics. Thank you, Frank.
Just two days before Frank Ocean was set to appear at FYF Fest, he pulls out! His replacement? Kanye West of course. This is actually something that I’ve always wondered about having worked in the music industry, but I’ve never found the answer to. What happens when an artist flakes out on the lineup that they are supposed to be a part of? Does the artist leave the music festival organizers high and dry? Does the flaky artist help the organizers by coming up with a possible alternative for them like my interviewers do when they can’t make an interview? Unlikely. Does the artist get penalized/black listed from said music festival? I have so many questions.
However, the biggest question that I have is – where is Frank Ocean? He promised us that new album in July and we’re almost done with August. Now he’s pulled out of FYF which is making me even more concerned. Is the album not done? Will there even be an album? Honestly, I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time now and I hope that he’ll have a good reason for us when this is over.
Here’s the new FYF Lineup poster. Wow, those organizers worked really quick!
It’s not Friday anymore, but this weekend is definitely dedicated to Frank Ocean! Yo – where’s the new album, we’re waiting for it! I’ve been listening to this “Fixtape” everyday this week just to get me excited. I’m almost sure that it’s going to be a bigger hit than the Miguel album. Though I enjoyed listening to it, I think Frank has always been more my style.
I can’t believe it’s time already for the most fashionable night of the year! It’s crazy to think that a year has already gone by. I feel like I was making the 2013 post just last month. This year’s theme is White Tie and Decorations.
Of course we’re kicking things off with Queen Bey and Jay.
Beyonce and Jay-Z both in Givenchy Haute Couture
I love seeing the difference in A Collection posts between seasons. With summer, there is so much light in these photos, the idea that we have the capacity to do anything, and some weight lifted off our shoulders. I have so much hope for the rest of 2013 and my hope is that it will be better! I hope you all have a lovely weekend and that these photos can do their best to inspire beauty and life into you!
To top everything off, Chris Brown is also a Frank Ocean hater.
“There’s a lot of strategies people try to use when they’re up for awards. You know? It’s the sympathy role.” Brown said. “I don’t have to go that route. I just do my music and do my thing. For [Ocean], it’s whatever.”
Please. just stop talking. I really think Chris Brown has no place to say something like this – that someone is getting the sympathy vote because of their sexual orientation. Frank Ocean is just better than you bro.
Perfection. Michelle Williams, Rupert Grint, and Andrew Garfield have all been shot for Band of Outsiders, but it’s no surprise that Frank Ocean was tapped as the brand’s next star. 2012 and 2013 have been Frank Ocean’s years and as one of the most stylish artists out in the forefront right now, it only made sense that he would collaborate with Band of Outsiders.
Alright, so is it a little bit corny that I enjoy listening to a new girl group on the rise? I first stumbled upon Fifth Harmony when I saw them cover Ellie Goulding on the X-Factor and now that the show is over and the group is continuing on, I’m even more excited. Move over One Direction – the phase of the boy bands will be over soon.
