The Closet: August 2020

[Society6 Whimsical Sky Face Mask] – $16.99 – $13.59

This is quite possibly the bulkiest Closet post we’ve created in awhile! The good thing though is the pieces are all at the intersection of summer and fall. I’m also convinced that there’s something in here for everyone and at varying price points. Even a lot of the summer-y pieces can be transformed for fall wear. For example, the jumpsuit below? Pop a chunky sweater over it and you’ve got a look. We’ve been doing a lot of shopping lately ourselves so even though I’ve shared all of these here with you, I personally need to refrain from buying these myself. Enjoy!

[Abercrombie & Fitch Tie-Front Jumpsuit] – $79 – $47.40

The Closet: July 2020

[Free People Lou Jean Babydoll Dress] – $128

With just a few more weeks of summer left (can you believe it?!) it’s tough to know what to shop for. Do we continue to buy summer wear and hope for clearance or do we begin prepping for fall? San Francisco summers make it hard to decipher. In this week alone, I found myself purchasing a swimsuit that I may not use this season and a half-zip long sleeved sweater. It’s clear that we are also still trying to figure this out. This month’s post teeters on both seasons if you’re like us and can’t make up your mind. For once, it also has a hearty mix of accessories along with it!

The Closet: May 2020

[Matteau Tiered Paisley-Print Cotton Maxi Dress] – $540

It’s official! We’ve made it to summer. It’s the end of the month so like clockwork, we always write one of these posts. It has been many many days at home and we’ve reached the point where I have caved. I made my first online shopping purchase just a couple of weeks ago to allow myself to have more flexibility in my rotation of leggings. It’s not lost on me that if I continue to shop more that I still won’t have a place to where these new pieces out to. However, with that thinking in mind, the leggings seem like they will serve a good purpose. Whether you’re shopping right now or not, may these pieces below provide you with some inspiration for whenever you’re ready.

[Free People Luna Mini Block Sandals] – $98

The Closet: April 2020

[Lirika Matoshi Hearty Corset Midi Dress] – $449

It’s interesting to look back and see how much shopping was incorporated into my life. On a lazy, but nice weathered weekend, I would easily find myself in Hayes Valley or Lower Pac Heights just to browse. Extra time after work before a happy hour? You can find me at the mall most likely picking up something that I likely didn’t need at the time. In the last year while doing a deep dive into my finances with a friend of mine, I learned that I shop to find joy. Now you’ll notice that sentence looks different than “I find joy in shopping.” On some of my worst days, for reasons I couldn’t explain, spending money seemed like the solution to solving my problems.

Since I was able to detect that in myself months back, shopping during quarantine hasn’t been an issue for me. In a way, it’s almost refreshing to a) save money and b) discover the clothes that I actually like to wear

Can you tell that we’re excited when shelter-in-place gets lifted and we’ll have a chance to donate some things? I do have to admit though, while I haven’t done my “usual” shopping, I did just purchase a set of 3 cloth masks from Etsy. I felt that was a necessary purchase.

[Little Moon Rarity Blouse] – $88

The Closet: March 2020

[H&M Paper-Bag Pants] – $29.99

Putting together “The Closet” this month hit a little bit differently than usual. With everything going on, the desire to shop or spend money on non-essential belongings just isn’t a priority. However, I don’t want things to stop entirely. The Closet has been a regular post since the very beginning. We can’t help that through this, we’ve now entered spring. What I decided was that it’s important to have choices and to allow all of us to make our own decisions. Me not spending money right now is a personal choice, but for all of you that maybe lean on shopping as a distraction or to have a little joy (like I’ve done before) by all means, go ahead!

The Closet: February 2020

[Missguided Lace Up Heeled Sandal in Black] – $34 – $19

We are just kicking off a 2020 year of trips! Many of my closest friends are getting married this year and while we typically do our fair share of wedding guest dress purchases, some of these are stretching to other wedding activities – showers, longer weekends, destination weddings, bachelorette parties! It’s a lot to prep for. Last week we were just in LA and there’s something about venturing to a new city that makes us feel like anything we currently own won’t do. This edition of The Closet is jam packed with items that you could bring along with you for any vacation! As always, you know yourself best and whether or not you need to break out the wallet. At the same time, practicing willpower isn’t underrated.

[SENSO Maisy Slides] – $149

Thailand Swimwear Pack List

[Beach Riot Sydney One Piece] – $138

We are nearly a month out from our trip to Thailand! Since this year is littered with weddings and wedding activities, this is our one trip that is just for us. I’m looking forward to our stay at three different resorts and exploring the different islands, but we’ve got some work to do before then. That work includes shopping for a roster of swimsuits to hold us over for a week. Below are some of my favorites that I’m lusting after:

[Monday Swimwear St Barth’s Top / Bottom] – $87 / $77

The Closet: January 2020

[custommade Yoko Cardigan] – $450 $315

After the holidays, I was very deliberate about cutting myself off from buying any more sweaters. However, don’t you just feel like it’s one of those staples that you can never have enough of? As I think about what’s coming up in 2020, we’ve got our fair share of weddings (8!) and an exotic beach vacation. Naturally, I’m shopping for every day wear, but I’m looking ahead for what I need for these events. Apologies in advance if this closet posts feels like you’re straddling the line between both winter and spring/summer!

The Closet: December 2019

[Callahan Hannah Skirt] – $88

Okay, so I know Christmas just passed and all and maybe we have everything we need. But isn’t the new year, even a new decade, just the perfect reason to refresh your wardrobe? This post, combined with our gift guide and what to ring in the New Year with may seem like overkill, but I promise it’s not. Sometimes, we just want and need things that don’t fall into either of those categories.

Whether you received some wearable pieces this holiday or took advantage of the after Christmas sales, I hope you have in possession something that makes you feel good. You deserve it.

What To Wear: Ringing In A New Decade

[Zara Sequined Velvet Dress] – $89.90

Left and right, friends of mine are messaging regarding our New Year’s Eve plans. What I’m coming to find is that as we get older, there is less and less excitement revolving around this holiday. One day, I really hope one of my friends decides to get married on this day because I think that’s ultimately the best way to celebrate this evening. As of right now the number one plan in the running is a lovely dinner with my girlfriends and then after that, a quiet night in. We are graduating to grandma status over here.

For those of you who still have the energy to get out there on New Year’s Eve, I wish you the best and that you look great doing it!
