No Holiday Parties for 2020

[Almina Concept Draped Slip Dress] – $108

I know this isn’t the post you thought you’d be seeing. Quite frankly, it would be irresponsible to host a holiday party in 2020. Like many of you, I too, am disappointed. Our company holiday parties have typically been the event that we looked forward to the most. It was also the best opportunity to get dressed up and celebrate a hard working year. Now with the pandemic year, it’s hard to know if we’ll ever have another holiday party again. Though you may not have one to attend this year (I sincerely hope you don’t) that doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate in your own way. Get dressed up. Buy that new dress if you want. Use it this year to make yourself feel good or save it for your next party when the world is safer. Despite the circumstances, retailers are still putting out pieces and we’re still going to share our favorites.

Our Holiday Party Look

We are so delayed in sharing our holiday party look from last December! If you’ve noticed that this dress looks familiar to you, it’s because some of you have seen it before. This dress was actually featured in our holiday party dress guide for 2018! As many of you know, many of the dresses I typically feature are ones I would wear myself. Some are more affordable than others and while others are a perfect fit, some are a stretch! Every year, holiday party dress shopping is a challenge. Most of the dresses you want to wear for your holiday parties come out just a few weeks before your actual party date. You also want to make sure that you get all your accessories to go with the dress as well. Most party dresses look great with a plain gold choker so that can be a go-to option, but depending on your style, you might want to mix it up! When possible, you’d always like to be more well prepared than not.

In an effort to do that, I tried something I had never done before. Most of you know that I’m also not an online shopper. In an attempt to get ahead of the rush that everyone else goes through, I decided to take a look back at the dresses from my previous guide that I had created a year before. The downside is that most of these dresses are sold out which is understandable one year later. What worked in my favor though was finding this [French Connection] piece that I loved and was now half off!

In a way, choosing this dress was a culmination of holiday parties for the last six years. It incorporated all of my favorite things: lace, velvet, sheerness, corduroy and the most beautiful berry hue. We didn’t take too many photos from the evening because of how much fun the night was, but here’s one below of my two co-workers and I! I decided to go simple with the makeup, but add fake lashes. For my hair, my stylist quickly ran a curling iron through all of it. Keeping this intact all night was tough because San Francisco was storming that day so nothing held up.

What To Wear: Ringing In A New Decade

[Zara Sequined Velvet Dress] – $89.90

Left and right, friends of mine are messaging regarding our New Year’s Eve plans. What I’m coming to find is that as we get older, there is less and less excitement revolving around this holiday. One day, I really hope one of my friends decides to get married on this day because I think that’s ultimately the best way to celebrate this evening. As of right now the number one plan in the running is a lovely dinner with my girlfriends and then after that, a quiet night in. We are graduating to grandma status over here.

For those of you who still have the energy to get out there on New Year’s Eve, I wish you the best and that you look great doing it!

Holiday Party Wear 2018

For Love and Lemons Marquee Maxi Dress – $270

Every year, holiday party season always comes up so fast! I’m excited this year to have a true holiday party with my current company and the opportunity to dress up. As soon as I discovered the date, I was off to the races. There are actually so many options this holiday season that I’m swooning over, but the trouble with every year is that I have in my mind what I already want. The hard part of that is that it often times is hard to find where that exists. Since I hold onto that dream of a dress for so long, I often don’t find it and find myself stressing last minute.

This year’s party will be on a Friday – a first for me! It’s also unfortunately the first year where Mandi and I won’t be getting ready together. I’ll be using my new favorite startup Glamsquad for hair and makeup though which I can’t say enough good things about. Lastly, I’ve got a couple of ideas in mind for what I want to wear, but I’m not quite ready to share that yet. What I do know is that I want to stay away from lace if I can and sleeves because we did that last year. If things don’t work out for me, at least I’ve got a post to fall back on.

To get into the spirit of creating this post, I just looked at last years post and am surprised at how much my tastes have changed in the last year. Since my party is earlier, I wanted to start this post early. We’re also going to release it earlier than any other year prior. Enjoy!

Your 2013 Holiday Party Dress

Banana Republic Seamed Ponte Fit and Flare V-Neck Dress – $130

It’s that time of the year! For the first time ever, I’m attending a holiday party for my company and this time – it won’t be in some sketchy dive bar in the middle of nowhere. I can toss that horrible, ugly, and itchy Christmas sweater aside and put on my favorite new dress for the season. Of course, I don’t own one yet, but that’s why we’re on the hunt! I actually helped a co-worker of mine find her dress before I found one and it looks fabulous. Job well done. Now, here are some options for both you and I!

Prom Dresses For The Classy High School Students

With shows like Dancing with the Stars and outrageous red carpet gowns, it is no surprise that school administrators have been cracking down on the dress codes recently. School districts all over the country have gone as far as creating a guide for their students informing them what types of dresses are banned from their formal dance. The times have definitely changed since I was a high school student because this was never an issue for my peers.

However, from a young girl’s perspective – I get it. Short is sexy. Cutouts are intriguing. See-through gowns are mysterious…maybe? But there’s a difference. You can incorporate trends without being over the top and can ere on the side of classy over trashy. You may think that the only way to be fashion-forward is to be sexy, but you’re going to Prom to wear one of the most beautiful Prom Dresses and to have an incredible time with your friends and date. The sexiest thing about a someone at Prom is confidence and you don’t need a dress to do that for you. Nevertheless, here are some of my favorite picks for the season:

What’s in Your Bag?

Last summer, I did a post photographing the contents in my favorite French Connection purse. It surprised me just how much I could fit into it! I always find it really interesting what people keep close to them. You’ve got your typical phone-keys-wallet, but everything else is almost a shot in the dark.

Photographer Jason Travis has photographed 60 people and the contents of their bags and you won’t believe what he has found!
