Goodbye Goods

My brother and I have this really unique relationship in that we enjoy shopping at boutiques together. I’ll never be able to live this down if I say it – but I have to admit that he has had an influence on my style over the years. He has introduced me to some of the greatest boutiques in Vancouver and to blogs that I religiously read on a daily basis today. Don’t get it twisted it though – I basically dominate him in the music department.

I am sad to announce that Goods on Pike St. is closing. I remember my brother taking me here as a teenager freshman year when I was into my sneaker phase and looking to expand my collection of Nike Dunks. Over the years, we watched the store expand on the block and as I went into college, I witnessed every guy in my freshman class discovering the store and proclaiming it as the best “underground” boutique they’ve ever heard of.

Goods hasn’t released much news on their closure except for this banner advertising their sale. We’re sad to see you go, but wishing all of the owners best of luck on their future endeavors. Hopefully the end of this chapter means that we can expect something greater from them later on.

Suit Up Sweatpants

Did you ever believe such a thing existed? Well, now it does. Guys – you must trust me on this, as you start to transition out of college life or a life that involves wearing sweatpants more than once a week, please know that a girl will absolutely swoon for you if you suit up. Just listen to Barney Stinson. If you don’t like to dress up – tough – you’re going to have to get over that. I know some of you may not want to admit it, but secretly deep down – you know it feels good to wear a suit. Quit lying to yourself.

I can honestly say that I have never looked at a guy wearing sweats and said to myself, “WOW McDreamy is sitting right here in front of me! This guy is a hot piece of –” No. That doesn’t happen. And if you believe that dream can be a reality, godspeed to ya.

Allow me to introduce to you the Dress Pant Sweatpants giving you the best of both worlds. You can purchase them here for $90.

Women objectifying men

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdIAa6gnaco&feature=player_embedded]

Guys typically get a bad rap for sneaking glances at girls’ body parts, but did you know that girls are doing the exact same thing? We’re just lucky to be getting away with it! In this clever video, one man has decided to approach a number of women asking them for directions, but what they don’t know is that there has been a camera attached to four different places on his body – bicep, crotch, butt and face. You’d be surprised how many times these girls were caught checking this guy out. Now, I think I’m going to be a little self-conscious now when talking to guys and hopefully keeping my eyes in one place and not letting them wander.

Cork Grips

Bob Myaing was announced yesterday on the Urban Outfitters Blog as a new contributor to the website so I decided to check out his personal blog cork grips, which I think will be a blog that some of my male readers might enjoy! Myaing covers a wide variety of topics including fashion, art, design, photography, etc. Often times, it’s difficult for me to publish posts that are more geared towards male readers on Yow Yow! because I am unable to read these types of blogs on a regular basis. It can especially seem more biased during fashion week. Even though I can’t focus on material for men frequently, I’m going to make an effort to at least direct you to other blogs that I admire and that will provide you the content that you are interested in.

Back to School Series Pt. 4

One of the most exciting things about going to college for the first time is meeting new people, having a new group of friends, and of course – dating. Let’s pretend that doesn’t happen, parents. I know this subject may make some people uncomfortable, but would you rather learn through Yow Yow! or …the hard way? Earlier this week, The Frisky wrote two posts about the types of guys you should be spending your time with and the guys you should avoid in college – 11 Guys You Should Hook Up With in College and 10 Guys You Shouldn’t Hook Up With in College respectively.

The Frisky has brought up some great points, but not every college is the same. While some bros may be douchy at state schools, a private school might house some pretty smart bros. It all differs.

Now before we start, I’d like to say that this post isn’t to encourage you to become a little ho-ho. Take this advice lightly, have fun, be safe and generally the best bet is developing friendships FIRST.

Sneaker Shrine Shoe Rack

WHOA Alliteration! Believe it or not, I actually went through a small sneaker phase while I was in high school. What? You’ve never met a scene kid that liked her kicks? Influenced by my brother, I was a huge fan of my Nike’s in every style and color. I didn’t get very far in my phase because I only own a pair of moss green(now brown)/pink tweed sb dunks and a pair of gray gingham slim-fitted high-tops. Even though, I haven’t bought a new pair of sneakers in years now, that doesn’t stop me from visiting the boutiques up in Gas Town, Vancouver. You just never know when you might find another perfect fit.

Browsing the male-focused blog Cool Material today, I discovered this awesome sneaker rack that looks more like it belongs in the middle of a living space than a closet. Before you think about purchasing your IKEA bookshelf, consider buying this one instead. Whether you’re ready to hang up your sneakers for good or not or just need a place to store them , I think this shoe rack display would be perfect for just about anything.
