2017 Oscars After Parties

Elizabeth Banks in Elie Saab (this is so unbelievably stunning)

Nobody loves a red carpet more than I do. (Well maybe Ryan and Giuliana) but I don’t mess around on award show days and Sunday afternoons with the red carpet have a special reservation in my day planner. However, while everyone is anticipating THE red carpet, I’m also getting ready for my second wave – the red carpet of the after parties. This is where some of the most daring looks of the night come out. We’ve been doing this post after the award shows red carpet for years so if you’ve been with us awhile, this is nothing new to you. However, if you are new – welcome.

Golden Globes 2015 Red Carpet Arrivals

Dakota Johnson in Chanel Haute Couture

On Golden Globe night, I had a very difficult decision to make. I could either watch the award show or grab dinner with some friends and watch Selma. In the end, I chose to let the show go, but only because I was able to watch the red carpet and felt like I got what I needed. Within the first 30 minutes of the E! Live Red Carpet show, I wasn’t impressed with any of the looks, but as the program went on, I felt like I had something positive to say about nearly every look. This morning, we’re kicking things off with Dakota Johnson. I never read 50 Shades of Grey, but now that I’ve been seeing more ads, I’m becoming much more curious about the film. I love that she chose this gown because she looks fantastic in it, but if I could change anything about this look, I would’ve wanted her to go completely sleek with her hair just to make it look like she didn’t walk straight out of the movie trailer we’ve been seeing for the past month.

We’re The Millers

Every time I see Jennifer Aniston in a movie, I’m usually 50/50. However, I am excited that Emma Roberts is playing a homeless teen in this new film.

Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Emma Roberts, Will Poulter, Kathryn Hahn, Nick Offerman, and Ed Helms. Sudeikis plays a pot dealer who hires a stripper (Aniston), a homeless teenager (Roberts), and his geeky neighbor (Poulter) to pose as his family in order to smuggle a large amount of weed across the Mexican border. We’re The Millers, directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story), opens in US theatres on August 9.

This redband trailer is NSFW – also the last part of this trailer just MAKES it.

Oscars 2013 Red Carpet

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

– Lawrence is a Dior girl through and through. Now being the face for the brand, we sure can expect her to be wearing it a lot more than she has already.

[Readers! I’m sorry I missed the live Twitter feed for the red carpet today. I hear this year’s stars were on point with their looks. Unfortunately, I had to attend to some personal matters and that was much more important than blogging today. Thanks for your understanding!]

2011 People’s Choice Awards

Ashley Tisdale in Farah Angsana

I haven’t rated looks in forever, but I might just start up again. I give this look a 4.7 because I am loving her resort-esque dress even during the winter time. The blend of chartreuse and pink in the dress help bring out her warm skin tone and are really quite complimentary to the entire look itself. She also gets points for doing the boho look without looking homeless hippy.

Going the Distance

For work last night, I brought along three of my friends from home to the advanced screening of Going the Distance. I love romantic comedies – that should be apparent by now. I also saw Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman last week in The Switch, but didn’t feel like reviewing it so this will be a combo. Going the Distance was not your ordinary sugar coated cookie cutter romantic comedy. I don’t want to say that I liked it better than The Switch because it was rated R, but it highly likely that that could be one of the reasons.

I’ve discovered that the only role that Jennifer Aniston can play is Rachel Green on Friends. Maybe she’s a sitcom star and not a box office actress and that’s okay! If Friends were still running, she would be in great shape! Drew Barrymore has done a number of romantic comedies, but yet somehow each role has been unique. She has a way of bringing the character to life whether it is with Josey Gellar in Never Been Kissed or Lucy Whitmore in 50 First Days. Jennifer has been playing the same character in movies for years. Herself.

The on-screen chemistry between Drew Barrymore and Justin Long was steamy. It was cute [which was the response I got from many of the viewers afterward,] but it was more than cute. It was realistic in showing the emotions of bliss and frustration and typical challenges that long distance relationships struggle through.  Has there ever been any other movie about long distance relationships? I’m surprised it’s taken them this long. The chemistry between Jennifer and Jason not so much. It was boring. It wasn’t believable and it was also slightly awkward to the point of making me feel uncomfortable. I guess it helps a bit if you’re actually dating in real life.

The humor – you will laugh. I’ve come to the conclusion that romantic comedies rated PG-13 are pretty tame and directed at mostly women. Romantic comedies rated R like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and 40-Year-Old Virgin are aimed at both men and women. My guy friends loved it. It’s as much a guy film as it is girls. They really don’t hold back with the sexual references. It is dirty so don’t bring your kids and don’t bring your parents – it’s not that type of film. You won’t be getting any of the dry humor you received in The Switch with this one.

Don’t have weekend plans? Glad I could help you out.

Farewell Abaete

I should have known that something was wrong when Abaete did not appear in any 2010 collections. I regret to inform you today that Abaete has closed. Laura Poretzky produced some amazing dresses during her time and we are sad to see her go. Here are just a few of my favorites:

John Mayer – Battle Studies

So I’ve had John Mayer’s new album Battle Studies for almost two weeks. Right when I got it, I listened through every single song not skipping ahead and giving each its deserved attention. My first thoughts: this album is really… weak. There was nothing that blew me away. The songs were nice yeah, but where was the raw John Mayer. Everything was so soft. Too soft. Too girly? What did Jennifer Aniston DO TO YOU?! I was disappointed because we all know that John Mayer writes loves songs and such, but he has so much potential to do more.

I let the album grow on me a little bit. If I would’ve made my review post then, I would’ve bashed it and become a hypocrite. While there are some songs that make me go wtf?! on the album, there are some that I like.

There are 11 tracks. I like about 7 so far. Meaning I rate this album 7/11

Best songs:

  • Assassin
  • Edge of Desire
  • Half of My Heart ft. Taylor Swift
  • Heartbreak Warfare
  • War of My Life

Tickets for John Mayer in Seattle go on sale tomorrow. I’m crossing my fingers that my brother will buy me tickets :) I have yet to see him live and I would really love to.
