Song of the Day

Kacey Musgraves – Oh, What A World 2.0 Earth Day Edition

We’re starting to lose track of our days now, but today is Earth Day and more than ever it’s apparent from everyone how tough it is continuing to stay indoors. Even given today, it’s still no excuse to be reckless and be outdoors not social distancing. I loved the original version of “Oh, What A World,” but today’s special Earth Day version is our new favorite. Please, everyone continue to stay safe. 🙂

What We’re Listening to This Week:

Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I hope all of you have had a chance to wind down your work this week so that it gives you the time and space to be with loved ones. Ahead of my holiday break, I was feeling an immense amount of guilt taking nearly three weeks off. The last time I had close to this much time off was when I was in between jobs. It’s nice now to be fully employed and supported in taking the time off and giving myself that mental break from work.

My routine has definitely taken a huge shift! I haven’t had any caffeine since I’ve been home. I’ve also somehow managed an afternoon nap nearly every day. Basically, I’ve reverted back to child status and I don’t hate it. We’re getting in one more full day of writing today after lunch and wrapping presents tonight, but tomorrow I’m going to stay offline. It’s not like any of you will be on here anyways. 🙂

Song of the Day

Kacey Musgraves, Troye Sivan – Glittery

It’s the first day of my vacation and three weeks off from work! We’re not usually one to get too into the Christmas spirit, but maybe we feel a little bit differently this year. Also, I don’t love Christmas music specials, but I did find Kacey’s on Amazon Prime quite cute.

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet

Liza Koshy in Balmain

I had to look up the “Camp” theme several times to figure out what it truly meant. I’m still not quite sure if I understand the definition of it. My takeaway is that it’s pink, tulle, and crowns and we do not hate it. In all honesty, I’m a huge fan of the pink carpet and I loved many of the looks from the evening. However, I will say that this year was the most extravagant. What I loved about previous years was how wearable these looks have been and instead it’s turned into a little bit more of a spectacle than I would have liked. Maybe that’s what the point of the Met Gala is. It’s supposed to be a showcase of whimsey and imagination and if that’s the. case then I will get on board next year, but for now I want to hold onto what I thought made this event on the first Monday in May every year so special.

2019 Oscars After Parties

Gabrielle Union in Valentino

If you thought the red carpet was the main event, think again! Coming up, you’ll find looks that are a little more daring. The slits are higher, hemlines shorter, and everyone that wasn’t invited to the actual event shows up for the party. These looks were designed for the after parties and it’s something to get excited about! Many of the nominees arrive to the after party events in a second look! Like every year, this year’s event was no exception and everyone looked grand.

Readers, any standout favorites for y’all?

2019 Oscars Red Carpet

Constance Wu in Versace

The award show has only just begun, but we decided to get a head start on our post. There are so many standout looks this year and a few surprises. I found myself falling in love with a look worn by an actress who has a history of never having looks that impress me. Anything can happen! This year, the awards show is without a host, but we honestly haven’t noticed much of a difference. Here are the looks from this evening and I’ll be sure to indicate my favorites!

2019 Grammy Performances

Interestingly enough this might have been the first year where I totally fan-girled out over these performances! I’m not sure if it was just because I’ve been listening to more mainstream artists this year or I was more invested in the nominees, but there were so many stand out ones. I clearly love it enough to want to share my favorites here with you all! Taking the cake is Dua Lipa and St. Vincent. While incredible on TV (and so steamy!) I’m told by a friend that actually attended the award show that it was bad live. Oh well!

2019 Grammy’s Red Carpet

Leon Bridges

Oh man, if I had to pick the most enjoyable award show to watch of the year, it would have to be this one. From start to finish, I loved so many of the performances. There were even some that surprised me! There were also many artists that won this year who were so deserving: Dua Lipa, H.E.R. and Kacey Musgraves to name a few. Every year the red carpet at The Grammy’s tends to be hit or miss and this year is no different. I have fewer favorites than I usually do, but it’s still important for us to showcase them.

Favorites of 2018

Favorite Style Icon: Alexa Chung

She’s not the kind of celebrity that is regularly promoting something that she’s doing, but she still manages to stay completely relevant. We love her for that. Alexa’s style is timeless and nearly everything she wears is an updated classic. It’s one of the reasons why her look feels so relatable to normal folk like us. She’ll be on our list for best dressed for years to come.

Runner Up: Laura Harrier

Favorite Getaway: Lake Powell

I could talk about my trip to Lake Powell for days, but I’m saving this for another post. Located in a quiet part in Arizona near a few other tourist destinations, Lake Powell is anything but touristy. I had been hearing about this spot for a few years now, but wanted to see it for myself. Unless you have a boat, there’s not much that you can actively do, but it was enough for me. All I wanted was a spot to lay my towel out and to be in the clear water for the entire day. It was the most relaxing part of my entire trip and I wouldn’t mind visiting this spot every year if I had the chance.

Runner Up: Palm Springs

Favorite Artist: Kacey Musgraves

It was unbelievably hard to pick just one favorite artist this year. There were more than a handful of standout women who were completely dominating in music and I hate to have to pick just one. I went with Kacey because I listened to her album on repeat for what felt like a month. While she’s known for being country and I’m not known for even liking country, I found myself pleasantly surprised.

Runner Up: Nao

Favorite Guilty Pleasure: Terrace House

Ever since MTV’s The Real World stopped being good and full of gimmicks, I’ve been looking for a show to fill that void. Terrace House on Netflix is the most endearing series I’ve ever seen. You would think that there isn’t drama, but there is; it just happens to be toned down. The series follows six individuals in Japan living together and getting to know each other while a separate cast provides commentary on what goes on in the house. If I’ve got one qualm with the show, it’s that it doesn’t make for good background noise if that’s what you’re looking for. When I watch the show, I’ve gotta give it my full attention especially because there are subtitles.

Runner Up: The Handmaid’s Tale

Favorite Item Purchased This Year: Aritzia Slip Dress

I had my doubts when the slip dress came onto the scene and my fear was that it would look too much like a night gown. My mind had changed the minute I tried this on at the store. I loved how beautiful it looked and how the silk felt against my skin. It’s quite impressive just how versatile this piece is. You can wear it alone for a spring/summer soiree to be a little bit fancier or layered with a denim jacket. During the winter, I’ve had it underneath sweaters for a more layered look. It’s amazing how many things I’ve paired this with. I hope this piece will last me a lifetime!

Runner Up: $8 H&M dress that I wore to a wedding
