A Chambray Deep-V

Well! We got a little ambitious with our deep-v over the summer! In a previous post, we wore this with a beige tank top from Aritzia and while we were in Seattle decided to opt for without. We were fortunate that everything ended up being okay, but I did realize I felt a little bit more exposed than I usually do and no matter how hot the temperatures are and how badly you may want to pull off a deep-v, it’s certainly not for everyone! I did, however, like pulling off this athleisure look – these Uniqlo jeggings work with just about everything. For this day that I was in Seattle, this outfit was perfect for all of the activities we did and all the places we went.

Our Favorite Looks of 2016

It’s way more fun to share your 12 favorite outfits from the year instead of the ones that just flopped, right?! We don’t always get it right, but luckily the shame of an outfit gone wrong usually only lasts a day. #blessed that my coworkers are always there to give me that immediate feedback. On the upside, I love the outfits that I’ve selected as my favorites for the year. We love that some of these outfits are ones that we’ve worn more than once and have recycled with other items from our closet to make them more versatile. And if there’s one thing that we appreciate more this year in these outfits than the ones we ended up hating – it’s that “less really is more.” Thanks Ma.

Kinda Cold Sorta Warm

Top – Aritzia /Skirt – Brandy Melville / Cardigan – Oak + Fort / Wallet – Kate Spade

If I could describe my style in one outfit, THIS would be one of them. We’ve had a lot of fun with this Brandy Melville skirt this year and I loved this pairing with a burnt corduroy and a classic white piece. I think the outfits that I wear that typically go over well are ones that have a balance of a structured piece and one that’s a little bit more fun and out there. I remember when I first bought this Aritzia blouse, I was very worried about how low cut it might be and was worried that we’d have a problem with my undergarment showing, but it actually hits at exactly the right spot. And what do you do when you need a cover up? Just throw one of your many cardigans over it!

Sundays in Hayes

If I’m remembering this weekend correctly, this was the time when Mandi and I checked out the market down in Hayes Valley where a bunch of local artists and vendors were selling their merch. I don’t remember us finding anything that we fell in love with, but we did sniff through a lot of candles and spent some time getting inspiration for any ideas that might fit her wedding at the time or just for things we wanted in our own lives. It happened to be very sunny in San Francisco that day and if you’re from the area, you know SF doesn’t usually get a true summer. We were very lucky! The top and shorts are something that I would normally wear around the house, but the Keds made it look more playful. However, I didn’t want to look like I was in middle school with this look so I threw on my everyday purse and this hat that I love from Nordstrom for a little edge.

Ojai Adventuring

We really love weddings. We also really love weddings that happen to be at a destination because it always allows us to explore another place that we’e never been to! Exploring Ojai with Erika was so much fun. What a cute little town! The morning/afternoon before a wedding, I usually like to take it pretty easy – that goes for both makeup and the outfit. The morning of, I tossed on my favorite casual black dress from Brandy, my sandals, and my purse. Since it was such a nice day, I felt weird wearing all black so I tied on a red bandana that has been my favorite accessory for the spring/summer season. In the photo, it looks a little funny, but I promise it looks so much better in person!

Black + White + Blue

screen-shot-2016-11-17-at-11-10-05-pm

Top – Aritzia / Skirt – Urban Outfitters / Sneakers – Nike / Sunglasses – Kate Spade

Never in my life did I ever feel daring enough to pull off an outfit like this for a day of Sunday errands and catching up with Mandi. I think on this Sunday morning, Mandi and I were just near her neighborhood grabbing bagels and normally if I’m driving up, I’ll dress pretty casually. But… we had that week where all we wanted to wear was black and white anyways so I thought… why not stay on theme. This black crop top from Aritzia is one of my favorites. I’ll tell you what it is not though – a) easy to put on and b) not wearable with most of my belongings and c) not exactly wearable to work though I have managed to do so. I like this a lot because it’s just not an outfit you would think to pair with sneakers, but I love every single one of these pieces so much – in my head it worked out and in execution, we just didn’t care if it would work out or not, but we did it anyways.

When You’re Not Coming From the Gym

screen-shot-2016-09-06-at-3-08-40-pm

Top – Forever21 / Pants – Uniqlo / Nike Oreos / Wallet – Kate Spade

There are definitely days when we don’t feel like dressing up for work and this was one of them. Since there are more dress up days than not though, this usually surprises my coworkers and they ask me if something is wrong or in this particular case – if I’ve come from the gym. Perhaps that’s because I favour high quality tracksuits and gym leggings to keep me comfy in a work day, although most of the time I really shouldn’t be wearing this to work! Anyone that knows me though knows that I’ve never had a gym membership in my life! This neon pink top isn’t something that goes along with a lot of stuff so I typically wear it for one-off cases. I thought it mixed pretty well with my Nikes and jeggings that day. I was also on my way to grab lunch for the afternoon so it kind of works for anything that’s just on-the-go. Readers, what is your go-to dress down look?

We Were Really California

Top and Skirt – Brandy Melville / Sunglasses – Kate Spade

This picture is funny to me because this was the first time that I had worn this outfit and I remember looking at this and thinking, “WOW this girl does NOT live in Seattle anymore.” Somehow, this all felt really California to me. When I first moved to California and discovered Brandy Melville, I thought I had found my new favorite retailer. First things first – there’s a lot of people that actually don’t like this store for the one fact that everything is one size only. As we all know, not every one is the same size and I sort of feel like the retailer just didn’t want to come out and say that they are mainly a retailer that caters to petite people. Personally, it’s great for people like me, but I know we’re not the majority at all. When I first bought this corduroy skirt, I remembered thinking that I wasn’t going to find many uses for it, but I wanted it anyways. Somehow, it manages to work with a lot of my pieces and it has been fun trying to pair it off with things that you wouldn’t think would be a match. This is also one of my favorite tops because it goes so well with just about anything. It’s nice for summer because it’s not too thin, but it has a slight thickness to it too because of its sweater material. I’m not sure why we caught this post below, but holy – arms! I swear, they never look like that.

2016 CFDA Awards

Ashley, Elizabeth, and Mary-Kate Olsen all wearing The Row

So it’s not the most fashionable night out of the year (that’s the Met Gala!) but the CFDA is a close second! This is a post full of amazing looks. We don’t need to say anymore.

Proud Owner: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Saturdays are great days for shopping trips. When I was living in Seattle, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was a BIG deal and the only Nordstrom that you needed to shop at was obviously the Flagship. Since I’m not a Nordstrom credit card holder (really need to be!) I had to wait until their sale was open to the public. So to prepare, I marked this on my calendar and was out of bed by 9:30 AM this morning to get ready for the big event. I wasn’t alone. The parking lot was already packed by the time I got there at 11. Luckily, I came in with an agenda and knew what I already wanted, but not before I took a stroll to TopShop, TBD, and Savvy just to cover all my bases.

I was in desperate need of a new wallet (I was using a hand-me-down from my mother) and a new everyday black purse (my last one from Azalea broke!) so I was very happy today when I walked away with a perfectly sized Kate Spade wallet and a Vince Camuto purse. I almost bought the matching Kate Spade purse with the wallet, but then I thought, I don’t really want to double match. I was also worried that the Vince Camuto purse was too chunky, but  I really liked that it had one main zipped up compartment and two on the side that could button up in case I needed to store more things. Better to be safe than sorry!

Thanks Nordstrom for giving me more everyday essentials to add to my collection!
